Almighty Gods: Slot Overview

Combining two of the most numerous tropes in iGaming, Ancient Greece and’ book of’ style gameplay, comes Almighty Gods from developer Blueprint Gaming. To avoid outright copy and paste status, Blueprint has included a Premium Play feature, which makes quite a change to the game when engaged. It does come with a significant price tag though, so let’s see if we can figure out if it’s worth the bother.

To its credit, Almighty Gods is a nice looking game. A pinky, purple romantic Classical Greek background can be made out around a 5-reel, 3-row grid offering 10 ways to win. Flickering flames and fast-moving clouds give the game life, and the whole scene has a nice cartoonish feel about it. Mythology might be common as muck, but Blueprint Gaming has matched the attractive imagery with a mysteriously ancient soundtrack to breathe a certain amount of life into it. Put it this way; first impressions are good enough to make you want to take the next step.

That would be setting bets, and here things get a little more complicated. There aren’t many regular stakes, just 10 p/c to $/€1, which might make high rollers baulk. However, 5 extra bet levels form the Premium Play feature. We’ll cover these below, so for now, just know Premium Play does not boost symbol values, yet it does add the one and only twist to what would have been a completely vanilla ‘book of’ experience. Volatility is in the medium/high range, while the theoretical return value (RTP) has been calculated as 95.19%.

To win in Almighty Gods, at least 3 low or 2 high pay matching symbols must land left to right from the leftmost reel. Blueprint has ditched card royals for the low pays in favour of coins, wreathes, harps, pots, and helms. Things get fleshier in the premium section where we come across Aphrodite, Athena, Hades, and Zeus offering good values where a line of 5 is worth 75 to 500 times the bet. Interestingly, the scatter/wild symbol also pays out when it lands across paylines, to the same value as Zeus. It also substitutes any pay symbol.

Almighty Gods: Slot Features

Almighty Gods – free spins with special expanding symbol

Almighty Gods is more or less a straight ‘book of’ slot with expanding symbol free spins as its showpiece. It does, however, utilise Blueprint Gaming’s Premium Play feature, which is Almighty Gods’ unique selling point.

Zeus’ lightning bolt symbol is the scatter, and 3, 4, or 5 in view trigger 10 free spins plus a cash prize worth 2, 20, or 200 times the bet. Zeus then picks one of the pay symbols at random to become an expanding symbol. If expanding symbols can form a win during free spins, they expand to cover all positions on their respective reel. Expanded symbols pay all ways and from any position. Scatters remain in play too, meaning free spins can be indefinitely retriggered.

Let’s take a look at Premium Play, which injects a dose of novelty into the’ game. How it works is by upping the bet, larger scatter symbols are added to the reels. So for the cost of 2, 4, 6, 8, or 10 credits, you get full reel scatters on 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 reels, respectively. These bigger scatters mix things up in several ways. For one, they are 3 positions high and land either partially or fully in view. Also, in free spins, these wild/scatters substitute for the expanded symbol; however, they do not expand if partially in view.

Almighty Gods: Slot Verdict

Blueprint often cram a shedload of features into their slots, but Almighty Gods is one of the exceptions. It is essentially straight ‘book of’ style gaming in an Ancient Greek setting – unless you’re up for experimenting with different bet settings. If so, then Almighty Gods comes into its own by presenting a number of interesting ways of shaking up the experience.

The rewards can be worth it if everything works out – provided upping the cost fits your betting requirements, of course. It did feel a little pointless not to select the full 5-reel choice during testing, which certainly drained the balance a lot quicker than using regular one credit bets. The payoff was the bonus round did seem to trigger more often. Once in free spins, there was a noticeable uptick in returns as well since the scatter replaces expanding symbols. Premium Play is an interesting gambling tool, but one to be approached with caution for those not accustomed to larger stakes. It would be nice to know if, or how, the different options affect the return rate.

Aside from Premium Play, Almighty Gods is regular ‘book of’ gaming in an Ancient Greek setting, end of. If that sounds appealing, there is nothing holding back the entertainment. RTP isn’t exactly generous, so for better stats and more features, Almighty Gods loses out against slots like Book of 99 or even Book of Dead when played on the default 96%+ RTP setting. Relax Gaming’s contribution to the genre furnishes players with an astonishing RTP and a few new bits on the side. Unless you plan to live it up with Premium Play, there are few reasons to pick this one over Relax’ slot unless the brighter graphics or totally standard gameplay are more your thing.

In the end, it is hard to go too far wrong when choosing such a well-proven template and Almighty Gods delivers decent gaming. However, unless you’re keen to see how Premium Play alters the winds of fate, you won’t miss anything by not giving Almighty Gods a whirl.

Good

Aside from a Premium Play feature that might interest players who like alternative betting options, Almighty Gods is a rather forgettable ‘Book of’ variation.
