Nolimit City ‘s slot San Quentin looks set to break all sorts of records
San Quentin – even innocent citizens feel the menace in those two words. Its formal description is a California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation state prison, yet to inmates it’s known simply as ‘The Arena’. Established in 1852, San Quentin is California’s oldest prison, housing the largest death row in the USA. There’s no wonder shivers spread down your spine at the thought of being incarcerated within those high walls. Only the most daring would pass its front gates willingly.
Enter Nolimit City. Braving the shanking, the shakedowns, random beatings, and intergang warfare, the fearless developer has chosen this infamous prison to host an upcoming slot, titled ‘San Quentin‘. Scheduled for release in 2021, details are limited, but there are some things we can share, and what we do know might shock you.
San Quentin is shaping up to be one of those games which detonate shockwaves through the industry. Like capping an alpha in the prison hierarchy and causing a power vacuum, things will never be the same again. Backing up all this hyperbole are some mind-boggling numbers. Number one is potential. Nolimit has gone big with this one. Of course, big is a relative term, but few will argue the point in a game offering wins up to a staggering 150,000 times the stake.
To be clear, that isn’t an estimation either. As the only reviewing site in the industry, we were able to get our hands on a video clip of a win hitting this precise figure. During the count up there is mention of a fugitive called Joe Labrador on the loose. No idea who he is, but if you hear he’s busted out, you’re probably on track to a solid payout.
Then there is the bonus buy which in some ways is even more startling. When Nolimit City released Deadwood, people flipped out over the cost of its Shoot Out Free Spins buy option. For good reason too, 750x is a significant chunk of change not to be trifled with. However, what was once the limit of heroism feels tame in comparison to what the studio is planning. In a screenshot posted in the San Quentin comments section here on Bigwinboard by Nolimit City rep ‘Jonas’, it is revealed that San Quentin offers three buy options, the top one with a butt-clenchingly high price tag of 2,000 times the bet! Yes, you read that correctly. If Deadwood was controversial, San Quentin will blow the lid off the bonus buy debate.
As to gameplay, things are a little murky at this stage. However, if you pause at the first frame of the video we can catch a glimpse of the actual game. As can be seen, the reel setup and symbols do have a strong Punk Rocker ring to them. When considering the numbers covered above, there is little doubt Nolimit will ensure other aspects like features, math model, and theme treatment will be off the Richter as well.
San Quentin prison isn’t for the faint-hearted. It appears this statement applies just as equally to the slot version, which promises to be a monster in every regard. 2020 was a huge year for Nolimit City, and they clearly aren’t resting on their success. This game is further evidence of a studio continually pushing boundaries. San Quentin is definitely one to look out for in 2021 – whether that’s to take on the beast, or leave the soap where it is and run in terror.
