Forgotten Island Megaways is the second Megaways powered slot from developer All41 Studios and a far cry from their first one Shamrock Holmes. However, both games use common slots themes, Irish perhaps more so, though there are plenty of great-ape inspired titles as well. Aside from themes and secondary features, the two games are more similar than they are different. All41 appears to have approached their second Megaways slot using the same caution as the first. The result is a rather fun Kong game that ticks the right boxes, but is unlikely to set the world alight with revolutionary ideas.

The name Forgotten Island Megaways conjures up the infamous beast King Kong, who resided on the uninvitingly named Skull Island. A land not only populated with enormous gorillas, but dinosaurs and all sort of outsized nasties. All41 has loosely based Forgotten Island Megaways on the classic tale, so it’s at the back of your mind while playing. An attractively exotic isle has been created to host the 6 reel game area, sitting next to waterfalls, tropical vegetation and a gorilla who looks more realistically proportioned than Kong.

Forgotten Island Megaways: Slot Features

Players get a trio of features to make the most out of the trip to Forgotten Island. These are Rolling Reels, Kong Spins, and Free Spins which come with an increasing win multiplier. Rolling Reels are present in both the base and bonus game, triggered after a win. The mechanic clears the winning symbols off the grid, so new ones tumble down into the newly vacated spaces. This can lead to chains of wins as Rolling Reels continues rolling until no new winning combinations land.

Each winning base game spin may also randomly trigger Kong Spins. When Kong awakens, a win multiplier of x2, x3, x5, or x10 is applied. Every Rolling Reels from then on increases the multiplier by +1, with no set upper limit. Once no new wins land, and the Rolling Reels end, the win multiplier is removed for the next base game spin. Free spins can be triggered from Kong Spins. If this happens, the current win multiplier is carried over to the bonus game.

The close-up face shot of Kong is the scatter. Landing 4 of these symbols awards 10 free spins, while any extra scatter on the reels is worth two more free spins to begin the round. The win multiplier comes back, starting on x2, persisting for the duration of the feature. As in Kong Spins, the multiplier increases by +1 following winning Rolling Reels. There is no limit to how high the multiplier goes, and it does not reset between free spins. Four scatters landing on the extra reel add another +4 free spins.

Lastly, where available, players may be able to buy their way into the bonus feature. There three options to choose from offer various costs and benefits:

Forgotten Island Megaways: Slot Verdict

As in Shamrock Holmes, All41 has played it safe by using a theme that is no danger of putting people off by being cutting edge crazy. Gorilla themed slots are popular, not to mention numerous. There are even gorilla themed Megaways games already. Blueprint Gaming’s Gorilla Gold Megaways springs to mind where its four simultaneously spinning reels provide something more original if that’s what you are after.

Forgotten Island Megaways, by comparison, doesn’t offer anything remotely as innovative. But that might be all alright, some players prefer gameplay they are accustomed to. Aside from Kong Spins which are a little different, everything else used in Forgotten Island is regular Megaways stuff. Potential won’t be an issue on the other hand, where All41 state wins of 7,000 times the bet is possible on a single spin.

So, if familiarity is more of a concern than novelty, Forgotten Island Megaways has as good a chance as any of entertaining. It has the good looks, Megaways features and potential to fit the bill. Otherwise, there’s not much new here to warrant further investigation.
