Get the Gold InfiniReels: Slot Overview

In the Infinity Reels vs InfiniReels match up, there has been a clear winner when it comes to uptake and sheer number of releases. ReelPlay's Infinity Reels concept has soldiered on, through the ups and downs, a new slot powered by the mechanic dropping on a regular basis. InfiniReels from NetEnt, on the other hand, seems to have been pushed to the back of the features rack to gather dust. Kind of strange in a way because both releases to use it so far, Gods of Gold (NetEnt) and Dragon's Fire (Red Tiger), were decent games. Perhaps the two studios have been biding their time, cooking up something extraordinary to blow the InfiniReels series wide open.

If you had a suspicion that innovation and attention to detail were to blame for the long wait between InfiniReels slots, here comes Get the Gold to destroy that hypothesis. Get the Gold InfiniReels is one of those games you can't even rib a studio about; it's so bad you just sort of wonder what happened. Whether a Red Tiger slot is good or not, it is usually hard to fault them when it comes to aesthetics. Their games generally have a polished, gleaming look that is easy on the eyes. Again, Get the Gold destroys this idea as well. Have you ever played an old point and click game or a text-based game where you typed in instructions and at some point had to play a budget mini-game within the game? Get the Gold InfiniReels gives off those vibes. It looks like Marty McFly when 1955 Doc Brown dressed him up to go back to the Wild West.

The troubles continue when we get to the gameplay. InfiniReels are all about growing the grid, right? Adding reels when wins occur, drawing out ridiculously long winning combinations in order to make bank. Not so Get the Gold. Three of a kind triggers a win, and that's it. On to the next spin. Reels do get added at a later stage, but only when the Gold Rush phase is activated. Until then, the odd mining themed action is restricted to a 3x3 game grid, set in a body of water, with a hint of gold at the corner of the screen.

Playable on tablets, desktops, and smartphones, players can set bets from 10 p/c to $/€10 per spin. A highly volatile game, max win is impressive at 10,000 times your stake, yet it does feel something of a challenge when you see what there is to work with. Default RTP is 95.72%, though Dragon's Fire's return was variable, so be on the lookout for this should you for whatever reason decide to have a blast on Get the Gold.

Here's a quick look at the win information on the paytable. Six regular symbols appear here – fish, a water jug thing, hats, boots, pans of gold, and a shovel and treasure map. Landing 3 of these symbols left to right is worth a payout of 0.1 to 0.7 times the stake. Pay ways longer than three have their values added again for each reel added in Gold Rush mode to active win way combos.

Landing at least 1 Gold Cart scatter symbol on each of the 3 reels triggers Gold Rush mode. Each Gold Cart displays a prize value that is collected during Gold Rush mode and paid when the phase ends. During Gold Rush, each spin adds a new reel to the right-hand side of the game panel and continues to do so until no scatter symbols land for 4 consecutive spins, or the max win is reached. There are three types of Gold Cart scatters:

  • Regular prize bearing Gold Carts displaying values of x2 to x50.
  • Double scatters which double the amount collected so far.
  • Triple scatters which triple the amount collected so far.

Keep in mind, Gold Rush spins cost the same as regular spins, and when they end, the grid returns to its default 3x3 size.

Get the Gold InfiniReels: Slot Verdict

There are a lot of these InfiniReels, or Infinity Reels slots filling line-ups now, and sorry to say but Get the Gold InfiniReels is one of the worst. It's hard to know where to begin, so let's start in the base game. When players pick this sort of slot, they presumably want to see reels build like there is no tomorrow. That's because extra reels extend winning combinations and often build a symbol multiplier at the same time. For some reason, and it is impossible to think of a positive one, Red Tiger has stripped this functionality from the base game. It's like ordering a cheeseburger and asking them to hold the cheese – what's the point? Without the key InfiniReels function, the base game is reduced to a dull-looking 3x3 slot.

Land the requisite number of gold cart scatters, and the game does improve to a degree. Here the added reels feature finally comes into play, and it becomes possible to collect some gold (symbols). A fair number of carts tended to stack up in Gold Rush mode; even the doubler symbol cropped up on rare occasions. However, when four consecutive non-wins hit, going back to the base game was a major downer. Unbelievably, Get the Gold boasts massive winning potential for a Red Tiger game at 10,000x the bet. No one's doubting the statisticians, but scoring a payout even remotely close to 10,000x the bet feels like a titanic feat of fortune would be required.

Red Tiger has a solid reputation for designing great looking slots, even if the rest of the game ends up lagging. Get the Gold can't even say that. InfiniReels/Infinity Reels slots have a bumpy track record. Sometimes they come together to produce something of value; Money Mariachi Infinity Reels, which came out around the same time, is a good example. Get the Gold, on the other hand, seriously weakens the bell curve.

It’s so poorly executed that Get the Gold feels like the InfiniReels coup de grace.
