Immortal Fruits: Overview
You don’t need us to tell you developer Nolimit City has been on an insane creative bender lately, releasing some bona fide modern classics such as Deadwood and Punk Rocker. With Immortal Fruits, the studio goes back in time to a disco/fruity bonanza, a modern day take on the classic fruit slot. There are generic moments, but this being Nolimit City, there are some contemporary updates as well. With stacked wilds, bonus buy functionality, a gamble option, and the xWheel’s three jackpots, Immortal Fruits can undoubtedly be a pretty high powered gambling tool.
With the word ‘immortal’ in the title, we initially speculated this could be a sort of 'fruity' take on the iconic Immortal Romance slot. Well, turns out it's not. Booting up Immortal Fruits reveals a rather familiar fruit slot scenery, yet one that stands out as somewhat unique at the same time.
With 5 reels played using 50 paylines, the presentation is an interesting one. Nolimit City has gone for sort of low-grade retro look – even the slot machines arm moves on each spin. While being keen on the disco angle, the soundtrack doesn’t have a major 70s feel. The beat is more dub, though it does bring the funk during the bonus game.
Playable from 20 p/c to $/€100 per spin on any device, the game caters to most bankrolls. The math model may not, however, as it's been cranked up to nearly maximum. Volatility for one has been rated 10/10. That’s not just high, or very high, but officially ‘Extreme’, though the default RTP is more down to earth on 96.06%. As can be expected from a fruit slot, the hit frequency is low at 10.95%, so don’t expect masses of wins while waiting for the bonus to appear, theoretically doing so every 205 spins.
Players into their five a day will be all over the paytable which is quite a fruit bowl. In ascending order are grapes, oranges, plums, lemons, cherries, watermelons, and strawberries. Land five of a kind of this lot to reap 1 to 5 times the stake. The one symbol which doesn’t quite fit is the ‘7’, worth 10 times the bet for a line of five. All come stacked on the reels, meaning full grids are possible.
The wild diamonds are also stacked but appear only on the middle three reels of the main game. They aren’t worth anything on their own but substitute for any other pay symbol to form combinations.
Immortal Fruits: Features
For optimal results, Immortal Features work best in tandem. That will be impossible for some players since they are not available in all regulated markets, but let’s take a look at them.
Bonus symbols appear only on reels 1, 3, and 5, triggering the xWheel bonus when 3 are in view. The xWheel has 3 levels of increasing rewards. Each level holds 10 sections containing bet multipliers, jackpots, and an arrow. If the wheel lands on an arrow, players move to the next level.
The wheel keeps spinning and accruing multipliers until it stops on the same multiplier twice or on a jackpot - then the feature ends. The jackpot amounts are 100x, 250x, or 2,500x the bet on the first, second or third level respectively.
Immortal Fruits also comes with a 50/50 gamble feature which allows you to gamble your bonus winnings, paying out double or nothing for guessing the colour of a face-down card. The maximum payout from the Gamble feature is capped at 2,787x the bet.
Depending on the size of the win from the xWheel, it may be possible to gamble it for a repeat crack at the feature - the higher the prize, the greater the chance of doing so. Lose though, and you get nothing.
Lastly, and once again, restricted by jurisdiction is the Nolimit Bonus. Here, players can fork out 75 times their bet for three bonus symbols to land on the next spin.
Immortal Fruits: Verdict
If you’ve never played a Nolimit City slot before it would be easy to judge Immortal Fruits more harshly. The game has one of those looks that are retro if done or purpose, unimaginative if not. However, knowing what Nolimit is capable of, the old school look is the point, and they have pulled it off well. From the garish winning paylines to the cheesy yet fun way the lever moves with each spin, it all adds up to a bit of a nostalgia trip.
So the look’s been nailed, how about the gameplay? It’s mixed, some aspects hitting harder than others. The main game for one can drag thanks to a low hit frequency, though stacked symbols, particularly stacked wilds, help. There is also the gamble feature to assist with the wins and thrills if that sort of thing blows your hair back. The gamble feature may not be available in all jurisdictions, thinning the game out.
Another aspect that might not be available is the bonus buy option, which does cripple the game somewhat. Since the xWheel is the star attraction, it's handy to cut straight through the base game to it. And to be honest, gambling xWheel wins can be quite a roller coaster. When it goes your way, by picking up a decent multiplier combined with a cheeky doubling of the win from a successful gamble, it is a well satisfying moment. Of course, it can be just as frustrating to land on a pitiful multiplier twice, bombing out with a low bonus win – it is extremely volatility after all.
If you are unable to access the gamble feature or the feature buy, Immortal Fruits is a basically a run of the mill fruit slot with an okay jackpot wheel attached. Those not into the theme or the relatively low potential won’t find a lot here to get super fired. However, bolt-on those two aforementioned options, and the game becomes quite an intriguing gambling tool, requiring nerves of steel to push hard. The often unforgiving volatility means sessions can be as intense as they are rewarding, or, they can end up like a kick in the nads with a platformed disco shoe.
Fair
Although it’s not as energetic or complex as many other modern-day fruit slots, Immortal Fruits doesn’t really disappoint in any specific area either.
