Mine & Melt: Slot Overview

Howdy y'all, if y'all are in the mood for cracking rocks, diggin' dirt, maybe shaking the old pan around in a river in hopes of uncovering some of the sparkling yellow stuff we like to call gold, come join the Quickspin team in the online slot Mine & Melt. The mining part of the title is pretty self-explanatory and involves heading underground to grind away at a rock face for a bit. The melting part is a little more confusing, but when you see how grid-bound nuggets can merge together, it'll hopefully become clearer. If you've got your trusty shovel ready, let's get to prospecting.

Mine & Melt also features Three Lucky Swedes, so at first, it seemed like players would be heading north, where apparently there has been a gold rush in the region in the past. Sweden's strong showing at the 2022 Winter Games has also been labelled a gold rush, but no, after perusing Mine & Melt's game sheet, it's clear the action is held in the Klondike region, which is part of the Yukon territory, in Canada's northwest. It's a part of the world that's let Quickspin go loose with the mountainous tree-covered outdoor artwork. Mine & Melt's soundtrack is equally in-theme, being a banjo tinkling Western-styled tune that deepens the gold rush scene. It might not be eye-poppingly striking, but Mine & Melt manages to set a mood, nicely teeing itself up for users to experience the action to come.

Getting the search on means picking a stake of 20 p/c to $/€100 per individual paid spin, though eligible players also have the choice of buying two bonus rounds. Playing the regular way comes with a maximum return to player value of 96.09%, ramping up to 96.35% when buying the bonus game or 96.59% for the super bonus game. Lower return models are available, so checking the paytable will confirm which version you've got. Volatility also varies depending on the RTP model, decreasing as the return value decreases. On the 96.09% one, Quickspin has rated the volatility as 5 out of 5.

Set in the middle of Mine & Melt's idyllic location is a 4x4 gaming panel, where 16 symbols land on each spin, offering up 256 ways to win. Simply hit matching symbols across three or four consecutive reels from the left triggers a payout. Payouts amount to 0.5 to 1 times the bet for four royal symbol wins or 2.5 to 5 times the bet for four hats, lanterns, picks, or pan mids, climaxing with 15 times the bet for 4 of the high-pay gold bars.

Mine & Melt: Slot Features

As you can see, Mine & Melt does not possess a regular 1x1 wild symbol, but it does have Three Lucky Swedes instead. In the base game, while the grid is spinning, reels 2-4 may randomly convert to Wild Miner symbols. Wild Miner symbols land fully stacked they land on, and not only do they substitute for all regular pay symbols, but they also have multipliers of x2 to x4 on them.

Bonus Game and Super Bonus Game

Bonus symbols appear on all four reels. Hitting 3 of them in the base game shimmies players onto Mine & Melt's bonus game. It starts with 3 lives, displayed on the right side of the grid. The only symbols that can land in the bonus game are Collector symbols which hold a bet multiplier (starting at x2), or Smeltdown symbols.

When either of the above symbols land, lives are reset to 3, the feature ending when lives run out. Any time two Collector symbols of equal value are next to each other on the grid, a random such pair is selected to be Merged, combining the values into one symbol, freeing up a position on the board. Smeltdown symbols also land with multiplier values - x2 in the bouns game, and x4 in the Super bonus game. This multiplier multiplies the values of all Collectors in view. Any future Collector symbols also get multiplied by the Smeltdown multiplier. Finally, the only difference in the Super bonus game (triggered by landing 4 bonus symbols) is that players get 4 lives rather than three.

Buy Feature

The buy feature can be accessed from the base game by players in non-restricted markets. There are two choices here. One is the 3 bonus symbol triggered round for 60x the bet, while the second is the 4 bonus symbol round for the cost of 330x the bet.

Mine & Melt: Slot Verdict

If you've played the puzzle game 2048, Mine & Melt's bonus rounds might feel familiar. 2048 is a game where you merge tiles displaying the same number value, doubling them with the goal of eventually creating a tile with the number 2048 on it. Someone at Quickspin might be a fan because Mine & Melt's bonus round felt like a mix of 2048 with good old hold 'n win gambling. Quickspin has proven it is more than capable of blowing the socks off players into these sorts of bonus rounds with Cash Truck, a juggernaut of a slot that holds its head up proud amongst the best-in-class slots like those from the Money Train franchise. Well, Money Train 3 arguably steamrolled it, though it was released later in the piece.

Mine & Melt is a slot that occupies a different space on the xylophone of hold 'n win style slots. Certainly not the bottom end or anything like that. With a max win of 5,504 times the bet, Mine & Melt sits comfortably in a more middle zone. Like getting 2048 on a roll, witnessing Collectors merge into the sort of ever-larger tiles needed to reach its upper limits would no doubt be hugely satisfying as well. Mine & Melt never quite reached stratospheric levels in the review, but even lower levels could be fun, too, and while the bonus rounds are somewhat reminiscent of those in ReelPlay's Big Bucks Buffalo Gigablox/Mega Pearl Gigablox, Mine & Melt offers its own brand of entertainment.

It's not a huge brand, though, so the novelty will probably wear off sooner or later. On the flip side, it never felt like we were going to war the way it can do in bigger games like the aforementioned Money Train 3. Mine & Melt was lighter and less confrontational while remaining well-equipped to amuse players looking for a fairly compelling hold 'n win type of slot.

Mine & Melt merges a popular video gaming element with gambling to create a captivating, if relatively lite, hold ‘n win slot.
