New Slot Releases

Something to keep your mind occupied in these trying times goes a long way. Some binge watch Netflix series, others cozy up with good video games, and then there are people like us who find comfort in online slots. There are players, of course, who are in it for the thrill of landing the big wins, but there are also more pragmatic gamers who just play to kill some time.

So far this year it has been quite a strong year for online slots, and what we’ve got on offer in our roundup today isn’t bucking the trend. Sure, this week’s offerings are a bit high variance heavy, but there is a decent variety of slots overall nonetheless. We’ve had quite a few heavy hitters come out in April, so let’s see what the beginning of May has to offer.

The Vault (Snowborn Games)

Sometimes it so happens that the general slot public doesn’t agree with our verdicts. Judging by the performance of Microgaming partner and independent studio Snowborn Games’ new slot The Valut, this is one of those times. Snowborn definitely deserves an A for effort when it comes to The Vault which aspires to revolutionize the online gaming experience with its 3D graphics.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t look quite as exciting as it sounds. The 5-reel, 20-payline format feels particularly old when used in a slot that tries to be innovative and the visual production is a bit meh. Having said that, there are other aspects that make The Vault an interesting prospect.

Mathematically it isn’t all that bad, offering a 96% RTP coupled with a max payout capped at 5,000x. There are some interesting features involved here as well that might be worth to explore if you can tolerate the dark theme. As been said, The Vault appears to be doing quite well so there must be something about it that we failed to recognize.

Great Rhino Megaways (Pragmatic Play)

It took longer than we expected, but Pragmatic Play finally managed to seal a deal with Big Time Gaming for use of their groundbreaking Megaways game engine. Like many before them, Pragmatic Play decided to play it safe with their first Megaways release which visually draws ones mind to the iconic Raging Rhino slot whilst the rest it’s more or less a Blueprint Gaming knock off.

In terms of playability, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with it though. The set up and gameplay is rather familiar at this point although the 200,704 Megaways approach differs slightly from the usual 117,649 that is otherwise associated with the game engine.

As been said, it’s a decent game, but its got nothing on Blueprint’s Buffalo Rising Megaways in terms of build quality. Hopefully, we’ll see something more unique from Pragmatic Play going forward. To walk in the footsteps of others just don’t cut it in the long run.

Pink Elephants 2 (Thunderkick)

How excited we were to learn Thunderkick were working on a sequel to their 2017 super hit Pink Elephants. When it finally arrived, however, we had some mixed feelings about it. It’s not that Pink Elephants 2 is bad, it’s just that it feels like a generic knock off, as if reclaimed from some shady developer who set out to clone the original.

Yes, it’s super lazy and we were quite surprised to see that Thunderkick didn’t do more with this great opportunity they had set themselves up with. After all, Thunderkick is a studio that take good time to build their games and always seem to pour their heart into every project.

So what do you get with Pink Elephants 2? Well, the format is more or less the same, utilising a 6-reel, 4,096 win ways game engine that offers a roughly the same RTP as the original. Potential has been slightly increased at 10,000x, but volatility has gone down slightly. Pink Elephants 2 is a must try for fans of the first and it’s unarguably a great game, let’s just hope Pink Elephants 3 is a bit more adventurous.

Deadwood (Nolimit City)

We’ve saved the best for last, so good on you for making it all the way to here. Once again, the best game of the week comes from the hottest provider in the industry right now – Nolimit City. These guys are unstoppable at the moment and have come out with more amazing titles in just a couple of months than some developers have during their whole existence. The collective talent of their creative team is astonishing to say the least and would be a dream for any studio to have on their side.

Their latest slot, Deadwood, has only been out a short time, but it has already generated some sick wins as can be seen in our Youtube compilation of the 10 biggest Deadwood wins. A follow up to their breakthrough title Tombstone, Deadwood is a 5-reel, 576 win ways slot that can go particularly berserk if you’re lucky enough to trigger its enhanced free spins. If you don’t care waiting for it to drop organically, you can use the bonus buy option, although with a 750x price tag it might be out of reach for most.

With phenomenal visuals, an equally great mathematical design to carry the game, and an exceptional soundtrack composed by the great David Ahlander, Deadwood is a strong contender for slot of the year.
