The Equalizer (Red Tiger): Review
Get ready for a burst of faux-nostalgia with a groovy retro futuristic-inspired slot from Red Tiger. Taking more than a few cues from the likes of Hotline (NetEnt) and Banana Rock (Play'n GO), The Equalizer is a blisteringly intense game packed with action that's an absolute adrenaline rush. It wears its inspirations in the hex code of its colour palette, but The Equalizer refines formulas in a manner that makes it feel innovative, exciting and fresh in surprising ways.
Red Tiger drops you off in a city that could either be from a 1984 Atari game, or some distant future, whatever you prefer. With a 5x4 reel set in default mode, it comes with a feature that can expand both the reels and the rows, increasing the number of paylines from 15 up to a maximum of 60. You also get stacked wilds, which too can expand, as well as a free spins bonus where expanded reels and wilds remain in place for the entire duration of the bonus session. You can play this eccentric slot from 10 cents to 40€/£ per spin.
Visually, it looks quite spectacular and is built around a theme that is different from the usual Red Tiger stuff. What sticks out most profoundly maybe, is the giant equalizer below the reels that reacts to the music and certain events in the game. On a side note, the background music is not bad in any way, but it's also not as distinct and catchy as we would expect from a slot that seems to revolve around music. Although it does intensify in the bonus, some more work on the beat could probably have enhanced the experience. Either way, on the semi-transparent reels, which are set against a futuristic metropolis neon backdrop, you'll see lower value card suit symbols alongside stars, bars, dice and diamonds. The top payer is the yellow Lambo which is worth 25 times your stake for 7 of a kind.
The Equalizer (Red Tiger): Features
The Equalizer is not a particularly feature-heavy slot, but those that are on offer are well integrated and activate quite frequently. Included in the game is the Expanding Slot feature which triggers randomly. In play for the current spin only in the base game, it expands the reel set to a maximum size of 7 reels and 6 rows. You also get an Expanding Wilds feature where wilds can increase in size up to 6 symbols high.
Although the main game has potential to generate some decent wins, it's all about the bass...sorry, the Free Spins here. To trigger it, you need to land 3 scatter symbols simultaneously anywhere on the reels - this will give you 10 spins. In the free spins you get all the features that are available to you in the main game but with a few significant advantages.
Any wild that appears on the reels will remain in play for the remainder of the bonus and can move left or right on the reels on each spin. You get the same benefit with the Expanding Slot feature - if the reels and rows expand, they will remain expanded for the duration of the free spins round. Furthermore, every +scatter symbol that lands on the reels will add 1 extra spin to your total, without limits.
The Equalizer (Red Tiger): Verdict
Seeing that Red Tiger recently acquired the Megaways engine, we're a little bit surprised to see them release a shape-shifting game built around a concept developed by themselves. Although it's not as sophisticated as Big Time Gaming's celebrated design, it does offer plenty of action and variety. The Equalizer has what it takes to keep you entertained in the main game, but it is the free spin feature that carries it all the way to the goal. The combination of expanding reels, rows and wilds along with the sticky feature and retriggers is simply outstanding and possibly one of the best Red Tiger bonus games we've ever played.
Due to its volatile nature, you have to be a bit careful. During our test sessions, bonuses could drop at a rate of 1 in 50 spins, but there were also plenty of dry spells where it would take us hundreds of spins. However, with 10,000 xbet potential, a lucky few will undoubtedly dance to the beat of The Equalizer.
If you’re looking for an intense experience and refreshing ideas, The Equalizer by Red Tiger won’t disappoint.
