Thor Infinity Reels: Slot Overview

In ReelPlay's Odin Infinity Reels Megaways it was the one-eyed All-Father Odin who received all the attention. Now fans of all things infinite can witness his son Thor in action. To help expand ReelPlay’s market, Thor Infinity Reels is released via Yggdrasil’s Masters Program while also getting access to GATI technology, a software developing company based in India. If you haven’t checked out ReelPlay’s Odin slot, it squeezed Megaways onto its reels, proving nowhere is safe from BTG’s popular game engine. This time, the action revolves around a more traditional streak respins bonus round.

A forbidding location greets players when Thor Infinity Reels graces the screen. In the middle sits a 3x4 sized grid, built into a stone frame, inducing a feeling of permanency. Discarded swords litter the rest of the scene, accompanied by mist, pine trees, mountains, and a starry night sky. Attractive graphics present a scene that not only looks cold, but grim, as if Thor recently laid waste to a band of giants, or an army that did something to tick the deity off. Whatever just happened, it was pretty intense.

The math model continues the intensity, producing highly volatile gameplay and an RTP of 96.2%. Keep in mind this is the regular, default value, which rises to 96.6% when the bonus buy is activated. While Thor Infinity Reels is playable on any device, offering bets from 20 p/c to $/€40 per spin, you do lose much of the visuals on a mobile since it puts the grid centre stage to the detriment of the rest of the imagery.

One nice thing about ReelPlay is their comprehensive game sheets. Not only do they let us dive into just about every stat we could ever want, they also feature some pretty cool art. Alongside some rough game sketches, we find a hit rate of 1 in 3.64 spins, which isn’t bad given that wins trigger Infinity Reels’ key function and are formed of five matching symbols landing on adjacent reels.

As to symbols, there are ten regular pays as well as a scatter and wild. Muscular J-A card royals make up the low pay symbols, backed by higher-paying horns, shields, helmets, and axes - each premium symbol worth 0.15 to 0.25 times the stake. In more meaningful terms, five of a kind premium wins are worth a payout of 0.75 to 2.5x the stake. Numbers like this might not sound overly exciting, though when Infinity Reels fire, values can mushroom.

Thor Infinity Reels: Slot Features

Central to the action is the Infinity Reels mechanic which adds reels and symbol multipliers when wins occur. Winning spins add a reel to the right side of the grid, and if any new symbols can improve the win, the process is repeated. As the name suggests, reels only stop being added when no new winning symbols land.

Also, each new reel increases the symbol win multiplier. This multiplier starts at x1, increasing by +1 for each new reel added – without a set limit. When it comes time to calculate the winning payout, symbol values are multiplied by the symbol multiplier. One final motivator for adding reels is the Infinity Bonus. Should 12 reels be added to the grid in a spin sequence, an extra 888x jackpot is the reward.

You can’t have Thor without his hammer Mjolnir lurking somewhere, and in Thor Infinity Reels it is used as the scatter. When 6 or more Mjolnirs are in view at the end of a spin sequence, they trigger Jackpot Respins. The game shifts into hold-and-win mode, locking the grid at its triggering size. Triggering hammer symbols are also held, each displaying a prize value of 1x to 100x the bet. As well as regular hammer symbols, it is possible to land 4 jackpot scatters. These are coloured green, blue, red, or gold and are worth 10x, 50x, 250x, or 2,000x the bet.

Here, 3 respins start the round, resetting when any new hammer symbols land. If reels are filled, an extra reel is added to the right-hand side Money Train 2 style. In this way, you can rack up even more prize symbols, and also, if lucky, win the Infinity Bonus.

Jackpot Respins theoretically trigger every 166.09 spins, but players may be able to skip past that using the feature buy. If you do, then laying out 100x the total stake produces a triggering spin from 6 to 15 reels in length, holding 7 to 24 scatters to start Jackpot Respins.

Thor Infinity Reels: Slot Verdict

So far pairing Infinity Reels with classic features, or Norse gods, has resulted in a couple of decent games. Book of Ultimate Infinity by SG Digital, for example, cleverly incorporated 'Book of' style expanding symbols, and the streak respin device used here works surprisingly well. Triggering the feature is neatly done, spreading out reels to provide space for landing as many hammer symbols as possible. Retaining the ability to add new reels (which can trigger the Infinity Bonus) during the feature, bolsters the experience, and its four jackpots only sweeten the deal.

Of course, much rests on how you feel about hold-and-win features, which can be quite the deal-breaker for players who prefer more traditional free spins features or at least something a bit more original. Having said that, Thor Infinity Reels proves anything you can do on regular reels; you can accomplish on Infinity Reels. Satisfying payouts are possible as well, where wins max out at 6,055 times the bet. Decent enough, but it’s hard not to think the figure might have been higher given all of the references to the word ‘infinity’. At the same time, a respectable total for this sort of feature.

Thor Infinity Reels continues to show how versatile ReelPlay’s mechanic can be, even though the core gaming remains the same. Hold & wins are something of an old school device, so proponents interested in seeing them in an updated form would do well to have a whirl. However, if streak respins aren’t your jam or potential isn’t tempting enough, it might be best to stick to the billion other Thor slots out there.

Good

With a gorgeous mythological world to fight through and explore, it’s a shame Thor Infinity Reel’s free spins feature is so unremarkable.
