Midnight Gold

Midnight Gold: Slot Overview

As fixer Dexter Deshawn put it, 'Would you rather live in peace as Mr. Nobody, die ripe, old and smellin' slightly of urine? Or go down for all times in a blaze of glory, smellin' near like posies, 'thout seein' your thirtieth?' These days, well, the former sounds pretty good. We've got retirement plans, pensions, and pretty decent health care, all things considered. Back in the day, though, you can see how some people might have been 'coerced' into crime. The day we're talking about is the era of rich folk travelling in horse 'n cart while highway bandits tried to pilfer their valuables. The game is Midnight Gold, and its maker, Play'n GO, has laid on a Baroque scene for players to try their luck at striking its sizable winning potential.

Ooh la-di-da is one way of describing Midnight Gold's appearance. We're back around the Ancien Régime times when there was an enormous dividing chasm between the haves and the have-nots. Okay, there always has been and always will be a divide, but Midnight Gold turns time back to an era of lords, ladies, kings, queens, and the unwashed peon masses. It was a harsh, uncertain life for many, with doom, death, and gloom hanging like a spectre over everything. A bad harvest, a health issue, a job loss, oh well, see ya in the next life. Then came the revolution, a tidal wave of blood, and now, here we are, all rights, democracy and the power of the people. Or is that what they want us to believe…?

Sitting there minding its business in the middle of the rural location is Midnight Gold's 5x3 reelset. It makes use of 20 paylines to evaluate winning combinations and is driven by a medium-high volatile math model. Bets range from 10 c to $/€100 per spin, and the highest of the game's five RTP configurations is a 96.2% one.

Midnight Gold's low pays are elaborately drawn J-A card ranks, while its high pays are an earring, a ring, a pendant, a lady, and a gentleman. Five-of-a-kind winning lines are worth 3-4 times the bet for the royals and 7.5-25 times the bet for the high pays. The wild symbol lands on all reels. It pays 50x for a 5 wild win and substitutes for any of the regular paying symbols.

Midnight Gold: Slot Features

Midnight Gold's extras are a Delivery feature which awards Cash symbols, a mystery instant win, free spins with either Roaming Wilds or Stacked Wilds, and super free spins versions of both.

Deliver Feature

Deliver symbols may land on the rightmost reel only in the base game. It awards all Cash symbols in view. Cash Bag symbols may land on any reel except the rightmost reel and have bet multiplier values of 2x to 15x the bet. Moreover, Treasure Chest symbols appear on the leftmost reel with values of 25x to 250x the bet. If a Treasure Chest symbol lands, but a Deliver symbol does not, there is a second chance respin of the rightmost reel.

Mystery Instant Win

After a free spins near trigger, when there are scatters in view, there is a chance of a mystery instant win. The mystery instant win will appear on one or more of the scatter symbols containing a bet multiplier of 5x to 20x the stake.

Free Spins

Hitting scatters on reels 1, 3 and 5 triggers the bonus round. Players can choose free spins with Stacked Wilds or Roaming Wilds. In either feature, one extra free spin is awarded for each wild that lands.

• In Stacked Wild free spins, any wild that lands expands to become a full reel Stacked Wild.
• In Roaming Wild free spins, any wild that lands holds over for the next spin and can move to a random position before the reels stop.

Wild Multiplier

On any free spin, a random multiplier may be awarded. The multiplier will be shown in the Multiplier panel. If awarded, all wild wins are multiplied.

Super Free Spins Trigger

Super free spins are triggered by getting scatters on the leftmost and middle reel, plus a gold scatter on the rightmost reel. Super Free Spins are the same as free spins, except every spin has a guaranteed Wild Multiplier.

Midnight Gold: Slot Verdict

Midnight Gold went okay, not bad. Perhaps there was an influence from the theme, but the game had a sort of old-fashioned feel to it. Like visiting friends of your grandparents who live in a house full of a lifetime of peculiar acquisitions that's as much a museum as a home. The theme has probably been used about as well as can be. Everything on the screen is either encrusted with jewels and gold, linked to wealth in general, or is bandit-related. Again, it's okay, and it was not badly executed at all.

The gameplay doesn't exactly launch Midnight Gold from its old-fashioned status into wild futurism, though the features have the technical capability of rolling out a solid belt of thrills for lucky players. Potentially high reward, too. At its banditing best, Midnight Gold can cough up wins of up to 20,000 times the stake. You can see how the individual parts can mesh well together, too, though enthusiasm is reduced by a max exposure probability of 1 in half a billion. Although, a full screen of wilds and an x20 multi, well, that'd be worth a cool 20,000x right there. Job done, theoretically. For those half tempted, choosing to play Midnight Gold might be vaguely akin to virtually weighing up the pros and cons of robbing the local lord against hanging on the end of a rope. Purely on a numbers basis, there are definite financial possibilities in Midnight Gold. Should everything work out.

All up, Midnight Gold doesn't push hard on mechanical boundaries, preferring to defer to tradition in many regards. And, while there was little to no compulsion to play the game again, by the end of the session, Midnight Gold appeared to function well enough. Players interested in history might appreciate the theme, while others who like free spin options with various wild effects might be tempted, too.
