Le Cowboy: Slot Overview

Some people pick a single style they're happy with and that's that, whereas others like to experiment with different fashions, modes, or trends. Software provider Hacksaw Gaming's loveable raccoon Smokey is of the latter kind, and in this instance, we're catching up with him during his cowboy era. The slot is, you guessed it, Le Cowboy, a cluster pays adventure powered gambling machine that reunites the bushy-tailed scamp with his infamous reveal sequence, while introducing a new bullets flying, cylinder revolving Le mechanic.

Among his many escapades, Smokey has lurked the Parisian back streets, strolled the Vegas Strip, and menaced Mt Olympus. In Le Cowboy, the bow-legged bandit brings his charming gruffness to the Wild West. He's dressed for the occasion, too, cladding himself in a Stetson hat and spurs, helping him blend in with the local populace. The Wild West game world is agreeable on the eyes, if perhaps not extraordinary, fitting the new Le mechanic to a tee, while letting Smokey perform amusing animations using the pistol Hacksaw Gaming has armed him with.

When hitting 5 or more connected matching symbols on the 6x5 grid, a winning combination is created. A super cascades feature then triggers, removing all matching winning symbols from the grid, causing new symbols to drop down to fill the empty gaps. Medium is Le Cowboy's volatility, while of its four RTP configurations, 96.28% is the most desirable. Hacksaw Gaming has lowered the minimum stake to $/€0.05 per spin, and the max stake is lower than it usually is, too, at $/€40.

Le Cowboy's pay symbols include 10-A royals, hats, cacti, pistols, skulls, and badges. A combination of 5 OAK is worth 0.2x to 1x, maxing out at 50x to 200x when 14+ OAK hits. Wanted poster wilds substitute for all symbols on the paytable.

Le Cowboy: Slot Features

The special Le sauce is here in the form of Revolver Reveals, and it is joined by three bonus rounds, as well as feature buys.

Revolver Reveals

When a winning cluster includes a wild, it transforms into a Revolver Cylinder with 2-6 shots. After cascades end, cylinders fire in order, hitting random positions (a spot can be hit more than once). Cylinders are not wild. Shots reveal Coins, Diamonds, Clovers, Loot Bags, or Reloads. Reloads (max 1 on the grid) refill all cylinders with 2-6 shots. Coins hit upgrade to the next tier; Green Clovers upgrade to Gold. Diamonds, Gold Clovers, Loot Bags, and Reloads can't be hit again.

When no Reloads appear, Coins and Diamonds reveal: Bronze = 1x-4x, Silver = 5x-20x, Gold = 25x-100x, Diamonds = 150x-500x. Next, Clovers activate. The Gold Clovers multiply all Coins, Diamonds, and Loot Bags by x2-x20; Green Clovers multiply adjacent ones by the same values. Then Loot Bags collect all revealed Coin, Diamond, and Loot Bag values. Clover and Reload symbols vanish, triggering all shot positions again with new reveals. Once the sequence ends, all Coins and Loot Bags pay out.

High Noon Saloon & Gamble

Hitting 3 FS scatters triggers this feature with 10 free spins. One of the fine print rules is that FS scatters cannot land at the same time as Revolver Cylinders. When triggered, players may choose to play the feature or Gamble. If players Gamble, a revolver will shoot to produce 1 of 4 outcomes - Outcome 1, the bonus is upgraded to Trail of Trickery, in which case players can Gamble again. Outcome 2 awards a Cash Prize of 1x to 4x the bet, whereas Outcomes 3 and 4 award 5x to 20x, or 25x to 100x, respectively. Players may Gamble once per bonus, and once after a bonus upgrade. In this bonus and the next, once an outcome has been awarded, the Bonus Gamble ends.

High Noon Saloon keeps the base game mechanics while having an increased chance of triggering Revolver Cylinders. Landing 2 or 3 FS scatters in this feature or the next awards a further +2 or +4 free spins, respectively.

Trail of Trickery

Landing 4 FS scatters in the base game triggers 10 free Trail of Trickery spins. Again, players can start the feature or Gamble, which results in 1 of 8 outcomes. Outcome 1 upgrades the feature to Pistols at Dawn. Outcomes 2 and 3 award 5x to 20x the bet, Outcomes 4-7 awards 25 to 100x, and Outcome 8 grants 150x to 500x the bet.

Trail of Trickery keeps the mechanics of High Noon Saloon. In addition, a Bullet Collector is displayed outside the reels. Each win adds +1 bullet to the Bullet Collector. On the last free spin, the Bullet Collector activates after all Revolver Cylinders and Reload symbols have activated, causing Smokey to shoot all of the collected bullets at the reels. Where bullets land, they reveal Coins, Diamonds, Clovers, and Loot Bag symbols, triggering the Revolver Reveals process. FS symbols cannot land when the Bullet Collector activates.

Pistols at Dawn - Hidden Epic Bonus

Pistols at Dawn's 10 free spins are triggered by landing 5 FS scatters in the base game. On top of Trail of Trickery's mechanics, the Bullet Collector is progressive. It starts at 5, and it triggers on every free spin after Revolver Cylinders and Reload symbols have activated. After the Bullet Collector has activated, it resets to the last collected value it had before activating. The Bullet Collector continues to collect wins on the next free spin. In addition, Silver Coins are the lowest Coin type that may land. FS scatters do not land in this feature.

Feature Buys

Le Cowboy's feature buys are BonusHunt FeatureSpins, making each spin 5 times more likely to trigger a bonus game at a cost of 3x, and Wild West FeatureSpins at 75x to guarantee at least 2 wilds land on each spin. High Noon Saloon costs 65x to trigger, while Trail of Trickery's price tag is 250x.

Le Cowboy: Slot Verdict

The Le series might continually evolve, but its beating heart reveal feature has generally remained constant through the range, and what a process it is. Or at least, can be, when a good number of Clovers, Loot Bags and whatnot are present. In some instances, it's able to cycle through the Revolver Reveals procedure like nothing else, revealing Coins, Diamonds, with Clovers hitting them with multis, Loot Bags collecting goodies, before running the reveal gauntlet all over again. It was a spark of genius when Le Bandit came slinking on the scene in 2023, and the various Le permutations gamblers have been exposed to since then have been rock solid as well. Some may have been hoping to see Le Cowboy provide a more thorough technical overhaul, which it doesn't, really. But the new features both gel with the theme and add an exciting new shootin' up the joint dimension.

The key difference is replacing the original Golden Squares method of adding special symbols to the reels with the new Revolver Reveals blasting symbols system. Once you get past this step, though, the flow is familiar, and you can see why Hacksaw Gaming has chosen to more or less leave the Reveal part alone. It's capable of popping off decent returns when slinging Coins or Diamonds on the reels, maybe delivering a bit of multiplying Clover symbols action to them, before following up with rarer Loot Bag symbols to reignite the sequence. The Bullet Cylinder feature really comes into its own at the end of Trail of Trickery, building suspense for the final spin - or every spin if you're lucky enough to trigger Pistols at Dawn.

Alternatively, Le Cowboy gives players the chance to gamble their way to higher bonus rounds, which isn't a method commonly employed by Hacksaw Gaming. Again, it may require sizable helpings of luck to do so, and upgrading Trail of Trickery to Pistols at Dawn may or may not be easier to achieve than landing 5 scatters in the base game, but having the option to try is no bad thing. Furthermore, gambles always return something, even if it is a 'lesser' bet multiplier. There's nothing lesser about Le Cowboy's winning potential, though, as a figure of 25,000x provides the buckle on the belt of an entertaining Le slot that might not have undergone a complete mechanical overhaul, but has new features which contribute to another playful and punchy entry in Smokey's saga.
