Giga Zombies: Slot Overview

One of the scariest things about zombies is that they just keep coming, and coming, in wave after wave of shambling, flesh-dripping hordes. The undead might have terrified players in Yggdrasil Gaming's leprechaun-with-a-gun game, Lucky Apocalypse, and are now shuffling through the online slot Giga Zombies. The two games share more than just decaying antagonists, though. Giga Zombies is a reskin of Lucky Apocalypse, where even the themes are similar, except this time we've got a female explorer taking on the jungle, its undead inhabitants, alongside scatter pays with Giga Blox and an Avalanche-linked Progress Bar.

Up above the reels, where Lucky used to sit, is a lady Indiana Jones-type character, pistol twirling, looking surprisingly upbeat given the number of zombies in the game. The adventure takes place in a Central American, Aztec-ish kind of location, the sort of place an ancient city was taken over by the jungle, and became infested with undead walkers. There must be something pretty valuable hidden here for an adventurer to brave the many dangers to find, and the free spins round has loads of coins and skulls littered about the place. A driving metal tune increases the game's badass credentials, while the visuals do a decent job of laying on dread.

Giga Zombies slot - base game

Zombies invade a 6x5 grid where wins are formed using a scatter pays system. When 8 or more matching symbols land in any position, they create a winning combination. Winning symbols vanish from the reels, causing symbols to Avalanche down to refill empty positions, repeating in this way as long as new wins keep hitting. The stats are the same as before, which means high volatility and a max RTP of 96%. Players may stake $/€0.10 to $/€100 or opt for the feature buy.

The hierarchy of pay symbols lists 10-A royals and four zombie high pays. Winning combinations of 8 OAK pay 0.1x to 5x, while a 15+ OAK hit is worth 1.5x to 25x the stake. Wilds substitute for all symbols except the scatter. Wilds can be part of multiple winning combinations at the same time, though they only appear in the base game through the Progress Bar.

Giga Zombies: Slot Features

Giga Zombies has the same features as Lucky Apocalypse, such as the Progress Bar, Gigablox, free spins round, bonus buy, and several non-winning spin features.

Progress Bar

The Progress Bar is present in the base game and free spins. Each consecutive win adds +1 point to the bar. In the base game, reaching points on the Bar triggers features, which are cumulative, triggering once per bet.

  • After 4 consecutive wins a 2x2 to 4x4 Gigablox spawns on the grid.
  • After 6 consecutive wins, 1-4 wilds fall before another Avalanche.
  • After 9 consecutive wins, 8 free spins are triggered. At this point, no more wins are added to the Bar

Gigablox

A Gigablox symbol is a big symbol made up of a cluster of 1x1 symbols. They appear as a 2x2, 3x3, or 4x4 symbol. The Gigablox symbol splits into 1x1 symbols of the same type when part of a win. A Gigablox can also split if irregular empty spaces appear under it during an Avalanche, so some of its 1x1 segments can fall.

Free Spins

Completing the Progress Bar or landing 4 or more scatters in the base game awards 8 free spins. During the free spins round, there is a guaranteed random Gigablox symbol on each spin. Also, the Progress Bar changes to contain multipliers of x2 to x50 plus an 8 free spins retrigger when reaching 9+ Avalanches. Consecutive wins add +1 point to the Progress Bar. After 9 consecutive wins, no more points are added. At the end of an Avalanche session, the highest reached multiplier is applied to the win, then the Bar and multiplier reset. Landing 3+ scatters also awards +8 free spins.

Non-Winning Spin Features

On any non-winning spin, there is a chance one of these features triggers.

  • Zombie Horde: Turns a random number of symbols into high-paying symbols to form a winning combination.
  • Lucky Gigablox: Turns symbols into a 2x2 Gigablox to form a win.
  • Chaos Kingdom: Turns random symbols into symbols that form a win.

Bonus Buy

Players can buy the free spins round triggered by 4 to 6 scatters for 100x their stake.

Giga Zombies: Slot Verdict

If you thought Yggdrasil Gaming had been on a dip of late, then Giga Zombies will only confirm those suspicions. Cloning a previous release already feels like throwing in the towel in terms of coming up with new ideas, but then coating it in a similar-themed skin feels like total capitulation. Earlier in the year, Yggdrasil Gaming released Raptor 2, which could have massively launched the studio on an exciting new trajectory for 2026, but it was something of a letdown, given how good the original was. As a result, Yggdrasil Gaming lately feels like it's taken a step back from the cutting edge of slot design and is happy chilling on a safer ledge.

Back to Giga Zombies, which is less a fresh nightmare and more a reanimated corpse of Lucky Apocalypse. Despite the lack of originality, the mechanical bones of the game are sturdy. The mixing of Gigablox and scatter pays worked well in the original, though arguably even better in Max Elements, which was released around the same time. So from a gaming perspective, Giga Zombies performs quite well as a mix of several elements: Gigablox, Avalanche wins, scatter pays, and multipliers. But it worked just as well in Lucky Apocalypse, and Giga Zombies adds nothing new that wasn't there before. On the positive side, the music and some of the visuals produce quite an enjoyable heavy atmosphere.

However, given the linked theme, repeated features, and an adventurer who has an oddly generic borderline AI feel, the game just didn't give off the impression that a lot of thought and effort went into its making. The mechanics are sound, the 6,260x max win is tempting enough, and not every game has to be a blockbuster, but from a reviewer perspective, there wasn't much about Giga Zombies to get excited about.

Bigwinboard Summary

Giga Zombies is a mechanically reliable reskin but stagnant in terms of technical creativity.
