Hit the Jungle: Slot Overview

Grab your butterfly net players, Red Tiger is taking us off the beaten path in an adventure slot titled Hit the Jungle. You know, the jungle is a mysterious place, full of wonders. Many modern medicines are derived from natural compounds, including some originally sourced from rainforest species. In Hit the Jungle, players are invited to chop through the bush, not in search of rare medicinal plants, but to uncover gaming infused with a familiar mystery stacks feature, played on a dynamic gaming grid that can grow like elephant grass after a storm.

The adventure in this game leads players to a particularly lush-looking jungle. Everything has an almost juicy look to it, as if brushing up against the plantlife with a sharp object in one's pocket would send an explosion of viscous goo flying in all directions. The animals are equally vivid and include creatures such as insects, lizards, and big cats. The final destination is a bonus round, which looks like a Buddhist temple in the heart of the jungle. What exactly we're here to find is a mystery; ancient scrolls, hidden treasure, or maybe just pure cultural discovery for the enhancement of humanity in general, is the noble goal. Keen players are free to pick their motivation before hacking their way deeper into the undergrowth.

Gamblers begin the trek by picking a stake of $/€0.20 to $/€20 per spin, and hitting the spin button activates a 6x4 gaming grid. At this default size, there are 4,096 ways to win, but the reels can be expanded up to 10 rows high, which increases the number of ways to a cool 1,000,000. With a 96.08% RTP, the math model volatility in this patch of the woods is high.

Half of Hit the Jungle's pay symbols are 10-A card royals, while the other half are spiders, birds, snakes, monkeys, and tigers. Landing a 6 OAK winning combination awards 0.25x-0.3x for the royals, and 0.4x-5x for the premium symbols. Wild adventurer lady symbols appear on all reels. They substitute all symbols on the pay table, and award 5x the bet if 6 wilds form a win.

Hit the Jungle: Slot Features

This part of the jungle will be familiar to those acquainted with Push Gaming's work. Here we find mystery symbols, Lucky Coins, a Roar feature, free spins bonus rounds, and feature buys.

Mystery Symbols

Mystery symbols land in stacks of 4-10 symbols, one stack per reel at the most. Mystery stacks move down a position on subsequent spins until they move off the bottom of the grid. All mystery symbols reveal matching symbols or wild on each spin. However, there is a chance that mystery symbols reveal Lucky Coins instead.

Lucky Coins

When Lucky Coins are revealed, they may display Silver Coins, Golden Coins, Treasure Chests, and Golden Treasure Chests with values of 1x to 5,000x the bet. If the Monkey is revealed, it collects the values from Coins and Chests before putting new Lucky Coins in their positions, revealing new values.

A Tiger may be revealed when at least 1 reel does not have a stack of mystery symbols. The Tiger creates a full reel stack of mystery symbols. If the new stack is to the left of the Tiger, the stack reveals values after the current wave has finished. In the case of a Monkey collector, the Monkey replaces the Tiger with a Lucky Coin at the end of the current wave.

If a Diamond symbol is in view, it applies a multiplier of x2 to x10 to the sum of all Coin, Chest, and Monkey symbols when all waves have finished.

Roar Feature

The Roar feature may trigger at random in the base game. When it activates, 2-6 stacks of mystery symbols are placed at full size on the reels, or the grid is increased up to 6x10 in size.

Free Spins

Landing 3 scatters triggers a free spins round played on a 6x4 grid. Here, two mystery stacks, 10 symbols high, are placed on 2 of the first 4 reels before the first free spin. The bottom of the stack sits at the bottom position of the grid. Additional stacks may land during the round. After each winning spin, the spin multiplier increases by +1, keeping in mind that the multiplier does not apply to wins from Lucky Coins. Free spins continue until no more mystery symbols are in view. Should 3 scatters land during the feature, two extra rows are added; if 4 scatters land, 4 more rows are added; while 5 or 6 scatters add 6 more rows. Ten rows high is the maximum the grid can be expanded to.

In the base game, if the bonus round is initially triggered by landing 4, 5, or 6 scatters, then Super Spins, Ultra Spins, or Mega Spins, which are played on a 6x6, 6x8, or 6x10 grid, are respectively awarded.

Feature Buys

Four features may be bought from the feature buy section. Treasure Fever costs 2x to provide 5 times the chance of getting free spins. Alternatively, gamblers can buy free spins triggered by 3+, 4+, or 5 to 6 scatters for 100x, 600x, or 1,600x the bet, respectively.

Hit the Jungle: Slot Verdict

On a surface level, it's unlikely that gamblers who have been around the block a few times would mistake Hit the Jungle for a Push Gaming production. It's got a classic Red Tiger look, a bit Lord of the Wilds, a bit Savannah Pride (but in the jungle), with a dash of Serpent King. However, spend a moment reading over the paytable, or see the game in action, and parallels to slots like Razor Shark and Big Bamboo quickly become apparent. Both of those titles went on to become hits for Push Gaming, with a large part of their success resting on things like mystery stacks and instant prize reveals. Both of which have mysteriously made their way into Hit the Jungle, along with a personal touch or two.

Grid expansion was almost one of them, since this did not occur in the two previously mentioned slots, but it did appear in Razor Returns. Still, growing the grid is a dramatic effect in Hit the Jungle because we're not just talking about one or two extra rows of symbols here, but potentially up to six extra rows, providing an enormous number of ways to win, which might turn out to be massive when mystery stacks reveal matching pay symbols. This is doubly important in another way, too, because while revealing chunky Lucky Coins and multiplying them is a possibility, mystery symbols almost exclusively revealed pay symbols rather than coins in the review.

Visually and thematically, the jungle setting is attractive but not especially distinctive within the wild expedition slot genre, and the main character has a generic lady Indiana Jones thing going on, so Hit the Jungle didn't have the same iconic identity as a Big Bamboo or Razor Shark. But it's a decent slot with some interesting parts, even if many have been borrowed, plus a 20,000x win cap. So, while Hit the Jungle probably won't replace its predecessors, it has a bit of fun while trying to imitate them.

Bigwinboard Summary

Hit the Jungle throws together expanding reels and mystery mechanics into a competent but fairly unremarkable package that struggles to stand out in an already crowded genre.
