Book of Sakura takes two of the most familiar slot formulas in the industry and combines them into a single package. On one side sits the classic expanding-symbol Book mechanic, while on the other is Quickspin's long-running Sakura series. The result is a medium-volatility slot that will feel instantly recognizable to fans of both styles, though it does little to push either concept in a new direction.
Visually, Quickspin delivers exactly what the title suggests. Cherry blossoms, traditional Asian-inspired artwork, and soft pink colours dominate the presentation. It looks polished enough, but it lacks the charm and identity that helped make Sakura Fortune and Sakura Fortune 2 memorable releases.
The game is played on a 5x5 layout with 10 paylines and revolves around the Wild Book symbol, which acts as both a wild and a scatter. Landing 3, 4, or 5 books awards 7, 10, or 15 free spins respectively. Before the feature begins, a symbol is selected as the expanding symbol, and whenever it lands, it expands to fill the entire reel in traditional Book-of-style fashion.
Quickspin has added a few twists through Sakura Spins and Golden Free Games. During Sakura Spins, a symbol is randomly selected and expands when it appears, while matching selected symbols on the same row can fill all positions between them. Golden Free Games take things a step further by removing low-paying symbols before choosing the expanding symbol, improving the overall quality of the feature. From a technical perspective, Book of Sakura is somewhat underwhelming.
