Midas Fortune Slot

King Midas had a rather serious problem. His ability to turn everything into gold made him fabulously wealthy, but considerably less successful at such everyday activities as eating dinner. Fortunately, PG Soft's Midas Fortune concentrates on the profitable side of his predicament, turning the legendary golden touch into a series of Wild transformations across a 5x5 grid. It's a lively cluster-paying slot with cascading wins, expanding groups of Wilds and a multiplier system that can become particularly interesting during Free Spins. The maximum payout is 5,000x the bet, although the journey towards it involves rather more than simply waiting for the king to perform a miracle.

The visual presentation is suitably extravagant, with King Midas and his wife appearing among treasure chests, goblets, grapes and other symbols associated with royal luxury. Gold dominates the surroundings, naturally, and the artwork has the polished, slightly theatrical appearance familiar from PG Soft's fantasy releases. It's not an especially imaginative interpretation of Greek mythology, but the theme lends itself well to the game's central mechanic. Watching ordinary symbols acquire a golden appearance before transforming into Wilds feels entirely appropriate for a character whose greatest talent was making everything considerably more expensive.

Midas Fortune uses a 5x5 grid where five or more matching symbols must connect horizontally or vertically to form a winning cluster. Winning symbols disappear, allowing replacements to cascade into the empty positions and potentially create further combinations. The game has medium volatility, a default RTP of 96.73%, and stakes ranging from 0.20 to 100 per spin. King Midas and his wife are the most valuable symbols, paying 25x the bet for clusters of at least twenty, while the maximum payout reaches 5,000x.

The golden symbols provide the first important modifier. When involved in winning combinations, they transform into Wilds rather than disappearing, potentially extending a cascade. More interestingly, landing at least three adjacent golden symbols activates the Midas Gold feature, converting the entire group into Wilds before wins are evaluated. A cluster of four golden symbols provides an additional advantage, guaranteeing wins involving the surrounding positions.

It's an appealing arrangement because the Wilds can create opportunities that weren't present when the symbols first landed. A modest collection of golden icons might suddenly become the centre of a much larger winning combination, and the cascading system gives those transformations room to develop. There's an element of unpredictability here that works particularly well with the theme, as though Midas has accidentally improved the reels while attempting to enrich himself.

Wilds also contribute to a global multiplier whenever they participate in winning combinations. During regular gameplay, this can increase through successive cascades, reaching up to x10 before resetting. The real attraction comes during Free Spins, where the multiplier remains active between spins and can continue growing as additional Wilds contribute to wins.

Three Scatters award eight Free Spins, with two additional spins for each extra triggering Scatter. Any multiplier active when the bonus begins is carried into the feature, creating the possibility of starting with a useful advantage. During Free Spins, two Scatters award four additional spins, while three or more provide a larger retrigger.

The combination of persistent multipliers and transforming Wilds gives Midas Fortune considerably more depth than its modest grid size might suggest. A successful sequence can generate additional Wilds, strengthen the multiplier and create further cascades, with each mechanic feeding into the next. The Free Spins round builds naturally upon this foundation rather than replacing the base game with an unrelated feature.

There are some limitations. The 5,000x maximum feels comparatively restrained for a slot capable of generating sizeable clusters and substantial multipliers, and the most impressive combinations will inevitably require several favourable events to occur together. The presentation also leans heavily on familiar golden-palace imagery, leaving little room for surprises outside the gameplay itself.

Nevertheless, Midas Fortune has a satisfying mechanical structure, particularly when the golden transformations begin spreading across the grid. The base game offers meaningful opportunities for entertaining sequences, while the persistent multiplier gives Free Spins a clear reason to exist. PG Soft hasn't reinvented cluster-paying slots here, but the golden Wild system makes good use of the mythology and produces a game with considerably more substance than its straightforward appearance might suggest.

King Midas eventually discovered that unlimited wealth wasn't quite the blessing he'd imagined. Fortunately, there's no danger of that particular problem occurring here, thanks to the 5,000x payout ceiling. Still, Midas Fortune offers enough entertaining transformations and multiplier-driven possibilities to make its golden touch worth investigating.
