During a recent stream, controversial Twitch star xQc spoke about how much money had been wagered through a link provided by his new gambling partnership. The Canadian streamer mentioned a figure of $119 million and went on to say that most of that money was made up of new player bonuses.
Gambling on Twitch has been making headlines for a while now, with concern raised over the effect it may be having on young, impressionable viewers. Promoting gambling through streaming can be highly profitable, but many streamers refuse to do so, while others like Asmongold have even called for Twitch to ban it from the platform completely.
xQc is one content creator who had gambling partnerships in the past but put a stop to them in June 2021, citing concerns over a gambling ‘addiction’ and apologising for exposing it to viewers. On Discord, he went on to say he’d be withdrawing funds from his account and putting it into crypto.
In a recent change of heart, xQc has returned to promoting gambling, and the new partnership appears to be a lucrative one. While streaming on May 19, the Twitch star was prompted to take a look at his account stats, which included details on how much had been wagered using his unique code.
After checking, he responded with, ‘Oh, it’s not that bad. $119 million. It’s not f##king crazy crazy. It’s not crazy crazy.’ He added moments later, ‘That’s rookie numbers… compared to some of these nutjobs.’
Viewers pressed him on how the site’s deposit bonus works, and xQc responded, ‘Guys, that’s wagered. It means putting it in, but it always comes back somehow.’
It should be added that xQc refrained from actually showing the figures on screen, so there is a question mark over their authenticity. Some have implied the numbers are exaggerated, but without firm evidence, there’s no way of knowing for certain either way.
What we do know is that xQc is back promoting gambling sites on his channel again and is copping flak for it from viewers and fellow streamers alike. Will the criticism lead to another break, or will the new partnership weather the storm?
