Norse mythology continues to prove its fecundity as a slot theme generator with the release of another entry titled Andvari the Fortune Chill. Whilst the background is basically just sky and clouds, several clues are provided as to what Fortune Chill's features might be. This includes four Jackpot values to the side of the grid, three bonus round names above it, and in the top left corner, a sort of highlight reel flicks through the possibilities. Like the previous two titles, Andvari the Fortune Chill is another jolly outing with a likeable main character.

Andvari the Fortune Chill: Slot Verdict

Thematically, Andvari the Fortune Chill marks a playful evolution of its main character's journey through land, water, and air. It also goes to show that you don't only have to make a serious industrial-strength Vikings go to Hell or Power of Thor Megaways type game to have some fun with Old Norse ideas. Instead, Foxium has taken the whimsical route with its series, and Fortune Chill is another, well, chill one, which puts on a friendly attitude rather than storming the Nine Realms, weapon in hand, ready to vanquish foes.

Andvari the Fortune Chill's gameplay, on the other hand, is less evolutionary than Andvari's personal journey. The base game consists of a fairly standard bout of collecting coins, growing Jackpots, and hoping that one of those hot air balloons eventually triggers a bonus round. Or not, since none of the bonuses are particularly exciting, and mostly consist of landing coins and collecting Jackpot tokens, with some variation. The Wheel of Odds feature provides further variation, not just by the different backgrounds, but by the three different modifiers. A little annoying that these modifiers aren't just automatically awarded, but instead may or may not be won from the wheel. Oh well, the will it or won't it generates a bit of extra tension, perhaps.

While Fortune Chill proves the versatility of Norse mythology, its light-heartedness does soften the impact this theme can bring. Furthermore, players familiar with coin collection and Link&Win-type mechanics may not find a ton here that they haven't already seen elsewhere. Casual gamblers might appreciate the familiarity and the 10,000x max win, but like a hot air balloon catching the wind, Andvari the Fortune Chill coasts rather than lays down an irresistible challenge.
