Donut Division: Slot Overview

Thanks to TV and movies, the general non-law enforcement sector of the public knows all cops have a fondness for donuts. It's like their Kryptonite or something. No cop would cruise the streets looking for criminals without first loading up on donuts' sugary goodness - or pizza if they're sitting in their car all night on a stakeout. Then again, TV has been known to exaggerate in the past and revel in cheap cliches... Joking aside, cliches can be fun, and developer Hacksaw Gaming has brought comical cops to its slot Donut Division, where you want to see goo, lots of goo, while sleuthing your way through two bonus rounds, both of which are available in regular and super variants.

Donut Division has a fun 1970s cartoon vibe to it and introduces gamblers to Harry, Tom, Burt, and Roger, a.k.a. Chief. They don't look particularly formidable as a crime unit, but according to the game info, the team has 'sniffed out more crooks than sprinkles on a donut.' Players join the division on the mean streets outside a pizza joint, by a donut outlet, or in a warehouse, depending on the game mode.

To get in on the sticky stuff, players are able to choose a bet of 10 c to $/€100, with a wide range of feature buy modes may on offer. Three H's out of 5 indicates that this is a medium volatile slot, where the top RTP value players can expect is 96.3%. A 6-reel grid is Donut Division's active gaming area, which lands 5 rows of symbols and has 19 paylines for calculating regular line wins.

Images of enforcement make up Donut Division's pay symbols, which include coffee cups, cones, lights, walkie-talkies, and donuts for the lows, then the 4 character symbols for highs. A winning combination of 6 matching lows pays 1x the bet, going up to 2 to 5 times the bet for 6 matching high pay symbols.

Donut Division: Slot Features

Donut Division slot - Warehouse feature

Hope you like sticky stuff cos Donut Division has Gooey Guns, Gooey Wilds, 4 bonus rounds - Warehouse, Stakeout, Super Warehouse, Super Stakeout, and bonus buys.

Gooey Guns and Gooey Wilds

When a Gooey Gun symbol lands, it shoots Gooey Wild symbols to the left on the same row to the end of the grid. The Gooey Gun then transforms into a Gooey Wild. Gooey Gun symbols can also land with a multiplier of x1 to x100.

Gooey Wild symbols substitute for all regular paying symbols. All Gooey Wilds fired from or transformed from a Gooey Gun take the same multiplier value as the gun. The multiplier values are then added together into a total and applied to all connected Gooey Wilds in the same row. This multiplier is applied to a winning combination if at least one Gooey Wild with a multiplier is part of the winning payline. Wins with more than one row of connected Gooey Wilds add the multipliers together before applying them. A line of 6 wilds awards 5x the bet.

Bonus Choice

Hitting 3 or 4 scatters in the base game opens the Bonus Choice menu, where players choose between 2 bonus games depending on the number of landed scatters. With 3 scatters, players can choose the Warehouse or the Stakeout. With 4 scatters, players can choose the Super Warehouse or the Super Stakeout.

Warehouse & Super Warehouse

This Warehouse feature starts with 3 refilling lives. Its grid lands non-paying dead symbols or special symbols. Special symbols are Adding Multipliers, Multiplying Multipliers, Battery symbols, and Light-Switch symbols. Each spin consumes 1 life and has 2 Flashlight Charges. When a special symbol lands, the lives are refilled to 3. After 3 consecutive spins without a refill, the bonus ends.

2 x 1 position sized flashlights shine on the reels to reveal darkened symbols. On each new spin, the flashlights shine at random grid positions to reveal the symbol in those positions. If a special symbol is revealed, its modifier is applied, and the flashlight moves to a new position without consuming a Flashlight Charge or a life. The special symbols are:

  • Adding Multiplier - a value of 1x to 100x is collected by the Total Multiplier above the grid.
  • Multiplying Multiplier - a value of x2 to x10 is collected by the Total Multiplier above the grid.
  • Battery - the flashlight's light expands to 3x3, revealing symbols in the lit area. After any symbols in this area have activated, the area shrinks to 1 square again. Battery symbols appear on reels 2 and 5 and rows 2, 3, or 4.
  • Light-Switch - lights the entire grid, and all symbols on the current grid are revealed then collected. The grid goes dark at the start of the next spin.
  • Dead Symbol - switches the flashlight that revealed it off and consumes a Flashlight Charge. When both Flashlight Charges have been consumed, another free spin is triggered, and a life is used up. When all 3 lives are gone, the bonus ends.

At the end of the bonus, the collected Total Multiplier is awarded to the player. The left flashlight shines on reels 1-3, and the right one on reels 4-6. In the super version of the bonus, the value for all adding multipliers is a minimum of 5x or higher.

Stakeout & Super Staekout

The Stakeout feature uses the same mechanics as the base game, with an increased chance of landing Gooey Gun symbols and getting higher value multipliers. Hitting 2 scatters grants +2 free spins, while 3 scatters in view grants +4 free spins. In the super version of the bonus, after the first time a Gooey Gun lands on a row, a Gooey Gun is guaranteed to land somewhere on that same row on every subsequent spin till the bonus ends. This round retriggers in the same way as the regular round.

Bonus Buy

At Donut Division's bonus buy section, this is what you will find: BonusHunt FeatureSpins (3x the bet) - each spin is 5 times more likely to trigger a bonus, Goo In Guns Blazing! FeatureSpins (50x the bet) - each spin guarantees at least 2 Gooey Gun symbols land. Scatters do not appear in this mode, No Case Too Tough… -(100x the bet) - choose between the Warehouse and the Stakeout bonus games., and ...No Donut Too Sweet (200x the bet) - choose between the Super Warehouse and the Super Stakeout bonus games.

Donut Division: Slot Verdict

If you like pizza, donuts, and busting crime, Donut Division is one to stake out. It's a game brimming with a playful attitude on the outside and interesting features on the inside. Quite a lot of features too it should be said. Some are repeats of the past; some are newer innovations. One of Donut Division's key extras is its Gooey Guns/Gooey Wild combo, and a similar effect was seen in Beam Boys, where Wild Laser Cat symbols blasted wild symbols from where they landed to the leftmost side of the grid. However, this time, spreading wilds are complemented by multiplier values. Multiplier values accumulate, too, though maybe prepare to get a load of lower values. But you never know. Beam Boys didn't have multis, but it did have a shedload of more ways to win as a compensator. But having options and being able to choose a payline/multiplier alternative is no bad thing.

Hacksaw could have left it there, having Gooey features in the base game and Gooey-affected free spins. They've included both of these, but they've also included the Warehouse bonus round, which is one of Donut Division's more original moments. Instead of just collecting landed special symbols, you need the coppers to pass their torchlight over them. Fun, frustrating? Yep, both of those things, depending on the outcome. The Warehouse was the more novel bonus, but the Stakeout was the more exciting one. Rows of multiplier wilds are just good things to have up on the board, and if you're in the far superior Super Stakeout mode, then once you land one Gooey Gun, you get them again on the same row for the rest of the feature.

No need to fret over the game mode if you're chasing Donut Division's max win of 12,500x the bet since it can be achieved in all of them. This is often the case in a Hacksaw Gaming slot owing to the potency of features the studio regularly cooks up in its games, of which Donut Division is another highly entertainingly creative example.
