Gods Go Pew Pew: Slot Overview

Some gods may espouse peace, love, and harmony, while others may prefer to drown the world in blood and crushed skulls. Software provider Sneaky Slots brings two ancient deities associated with death together to battle it out in the online slot Gods Go Pew Pew. According to the game description, this is a war that's been waged since like forever between two combatants who think there can be but a single god and afterlife. So, who's it going to be, the ancient Egyptian jackal-headed god or the ancient Greek personification of death?

On one hand, this is a serious, weighty topic. On the other hand, Sneaky Slots is our guide, and this is a studio that operates with a sly grin, as evidenced by slots in the catalogue such as Nip Tuck and Gopnik. So whilst gods fighting gods might be a solemn event, Gods Go Pew Pew ensures the showdown is a fun one. At first, it looked like something Hacksaw Gaming might have made, Invictus or Hand of Anubis, or any one of the developer's darkly presented games. In fact, Gods Go Pew Pew came across a little on the subdued side at first, but it cranks up the soundtrack, the colours, the pew pew as play progresses deeper and the ancient world is thrust into the modern.

Gods Go Pew Pew slot - base game

Ringed with bones in the middle of the screen is Gods Go Pew Pew's 5x5 gaming area. It has 50 paylines, connecting winning combinations from the leftmost reel onwards. Stake selection ranges from a low of $/€0.10 per spin up to a maximum of $/€40, with a handful of Sneaky Boosts and Sneaky Features to go with them. When playing the regular way, its highly volatile math model generates an RTP value of 95.8%.

Clubs, diamonds, hearts, and spades are the low pay symbols, awarding up to 5 times the bet for a line of 5. Up from them are four theme-based picture symbols that pay 10x to 25x the bet for a 5 OAK winning line. Bone Wilds substitute for all other symbols except the Hourglass and Golden Hourglass symbols. They land on all reels and pay 25x for a line of 5 wilds.

Gods Go Pew Pew: Slot Features

Gods Go Pew Pew slot
Gods Go Pew Pew slot - Super Dead Spins

Can't have pew pew without weapons and Gods Go Pew Pew has God symbol features, xZone symbols, four bonus games, Sneaky Boosts and bonus buys.

God Symbols

Two God symbols appear in the game, and each transforms into a Bone Wild when they land. Landing both God symbols causes them to fight, and whichever one remains alive activates its feature. When the two God symbols are diagonally, horizontally, or vertically positioned to each other on the reels, the pay symbols between them transform into Bone Wilds, as well.

  • Split - When Thanatos survives the fight, he splits a random number of symbols into two. Symbols with a multiplier affected by a split count as a symbol with 2 times the displayed multiplier on them.
  • Swap - When Anubis survives the fight, he highlights 1 or more symbol types and upgrades them to higher value ones. He never chooses the highest paying symbol.

xZone

The xZone may land on the middle 3 reels. When it hits, it adds the same multiplier of x2 to x50 to all pay symbols around it. When more than one multiplier appears in the same payline, the values are summed before being used.

Death Games

Landing 3 Hourglass symbols triggers a bonus game where players pick Dead Spins or Lazer Tag. If a Golden Hourglass scatter lands with 3 regular Hourglass scatters, players choose the super version of each.

Dead Spins and Super Dead Spins

In Dead Spins, players receive 7 free spins with an active Skull Multiplier and increased frequency of God symbols. Each symbol transformed by a God symbol increases the multiplier that applies to the current wins. The multiplier resets at the end of each spin. Landing a Golden Hourglass awards +3 free spins and switches the bonus to Super Dead Spins. Super Dead Spins are the same as Dead Spins except the Skull Multiplier does not reset at the end of each spin, and Golden Hourglasses cannot appear.

Lazer Tag and Super Lazer Tag

Upon entering Lazer Tag, one god goes above the reels while one is below. On each spin, they shoot a lazer towards the opposing god to attempt hitting them. To the side of the reels are multipliers that start at x1 and increase by +1 each time a lazer hits them. In addition, for each gate on the main area lazers pass through, the multipliers that are hit increase by an extra +1.

A Skull symbol appears in a random position on each spin. It moves left or right till reaching the side, where it will turn around to go the other way. Each god lazer activates one of the Skull eyes. When both are activated, the Skull doubles all accumulated multipliers when all lazers disappear. The Skull Multiplier can store more than one lazer on each eye, and multiple activations at the end of the spin are possible. The Skull Multiplier resets at the end of each spin.

The round ends when any god is hit 7 times. After this, all accumulated multipliers are added up and awarded. Lazers from above only damage the bottom god and vice versa. Should a Golden Hourglass hit during the round, all visible multipliers are instantly awarded, their values are set to 5, the god hit amounts reset to 7, and the bonus is upgraded to Super Lazer Tag.

Super Lazer Tag is the same, but with these changes. All multipliers start at 5 when entering the round, and each god shoots 1 more lazers towards his opponent. Gates may appear with multiplier tags of 3 to 50 on them, and lazers that pass through gates with values increase the multiplier on the side with that amount if they hit. The Golden Hourglass symbol cannot land.

Sneaky Boost and Sneaky Features

Activating the Sneaky Boost for 2x the bet increases the chance of triggering a bonus, while the Super Sneaky Boost costs 5x to increase the chance of getting a super bonus. It is also possible to trigger a God Fight for 15x, the regular bonus for 100x, or the super bonus for 500x.

Gods Go Pew Pew: Slot Verdict

Gods Go Pew Pew was a slot that got significantly rowdier as play progressed. At the start, in the base game, the two gods circled each other warily, as bongos played softly in the background, and the odd winning combination lined up. Landing both God symbols is a possibility, and the further apart they are from each other, the more potentially beneficial, since they are able to transform symbols between them into Bone Wilds, depending on their positions. They're also able to split symbols and perform upgrades, adding tension to the base game when they appear. Also, elusive in that phase was the xZone, making the base round feel like two combatants testing each other for weaknesses or chinks in the armour before moving in for the kill.

The gloves come off for the bonus rounds, and the two of them, Dead Spins and Lazer Tag, are completely different to each other. Lazer Tag is the more unique of the pair, and whilst not complicated, it might require a pinch of extra concentration to track lazers blasting around the board, gate placement, and Skull movement. It's the flashier, more audiovisual extravagant choice, but, if memory serves, Dead Spins did provide the greater results during testing, or more likely, Super Dead Spins, with their non-resetting Skull Multiplier. Connect a sizable multiplier with xZone multipliers, and positive outcomes may occur.

Mythology slots are dime a dozen, yet Gods Go Pew Pew does more than enough to stand out from the pack. It might not seem so at first, since the game has a slow burn thing going on, but its blend of wit, inventive features, plus a 9,999.9x the bet max win, mean Gods Go Pew Pew has the goods to keep players entertained. Winding it up, breaking into the bonus round, is where the action heats up both on and off grid, including some original laser-focused mechanics to try, and watching two gods play a sort of cosmic air-hockey isn't something you see every day.
