Hot Spin Deluxe (iSoftBet): Overview
The original Hot Spin isn't exactly an old slot, but developers iSoftBet felt it was time to jazz it up and release a deluxe version. Not a lot has changed; we still get the same flashing lights and classic symbols of a retro Las Vegas-style slot - with a few extras. In fact, take a quick glance at a screenshot, and you would be forgiven for thinking you were looking at the original Hot Spin. Two key additions have been made, however, and they have drastically improved the game's potential for larger wins.
The soundtrack can't be described as anything other than groovy. It's a sweet 70s disco flavoured piece of EDM and suits the game well - old school gaming with a modern twist. The visuals are nice, with a lot of bright gold, and touches of shimmer along the trim. Sticking with the retro theme, the gameplay is fast and simple, in the base game at least. When it comes to extras, there are a whole lot more than you would find on a fruit slot back in the day.
The setup is the same as before, with 5 reels, 3 rows and 20 fixed paylines which flow fast. Located above the grid is the Hot Spin Reel turning lazily, just waiting for the right moment to completely flip the game. The overall sensory effect is pleasant and produces a mellow, relaxed state, conducive for a solid gaming session. The first thing to do is slink a bit lower into your chair and pick a bet level from 20 c/p up to £/€20 per spin.
Symbols come straight from the fruit slot manual with cherries, lemons, plums, and watermelons starting off the paytable. Next up are the high pay symbols – bells, stars, 7, and the diamond as the most valuable base symbol at 25 times the stake for a five of a kind combination. The big gold 'W' is the wild which can replace any of the paytable symbols except the Bonus Symbol to form winning combinations. Stats are also similar to the first Hot Spin, with medium-high volatility and an RTP rate of 96.0%. Without doubt, what made the original slot interesting was its Hot Spin Wheel and the 6 features it was able to bestow. Fortunately, we get that, and then some, with the Deluxe version.
Hot Spin Deluxe (iSoftBet): Features
The bonus symbol appears on reels 1, 3, and 5 and when 3 land the Hot Spin Wheel springs to life. When the Hot Spin Wheel comes to a stop, it awards up to 15 Free Spins which includes one of these special features:
- Mystery Symbols - a golden question mark appears on the reels in 6, 8, or 12 positions. When the reels stop spinning they all turn to reveal the same symbol.
- Random Wilds - as the name suggests 5, 7, or 10 tiles are turned into Wild symbols.
- Mega Reel - this feature turns either reels 1-3 or 2-4 into one mega-sized symbol.
- In-Sync Reels - no, not a Justin Timberlake throwback, unfortunately. Instead, 2 or 3 reels will synchronise and land the same symbols on each one. Super In-Sync Reels can drop which synchronises either 3 or 4 reels at once.
- Wild Reels - the feature turns up to 3 reels completely stacked with Wilds. Again, Super Wild Reels can also land to provide 3 – 5 reels stacked with Wilds.
- Ultra Reel - turns the entire grid into one ultra-symbol.
Now to the two features which added the word 'Deluxe' onto the title and warranted a remake; the first is Hot Spin Deluxe. This triggers the Hot Spin Reel at random during any normal spin to bring in one of the features mentioned above. The second upgrade is the Hot Spin Deluxe Multiplier. This is the one that will light player’s fire as it reveals a multiplier of up to x10 which can applies to any Hot Spin feature.
Hot Spin Deluxe (iSoftBet): Verdict
Hot Spin Deluxe is what the first one could have, or should have been. The original was alright, and the Hot Spin Wheel with its set of features was a draw for many players no doubt. What it lacked was decent payouts to really set it up as a favourite. Perhaps iSoftBet has been out canvassing the gaming community for opinions and ideas? However the inspiration arose; they spotted an opportunity for a quick and easy remake. The upgrade will draw in both fans of the original and new players for several reasons. Hot Spin Deluxe is certainly a more enticing slot, and a lot of that is down to the new max potential. It is now capable of hitting 5,000 times the stake thanks to the inclusion of those extra multipliers.
So no, Hot Spin Deluxe is not hugely different, but it is a step up from its predecessor. These minor tweak upgrades can be a double edged sword though. Hopefully, this doesn't turn into a major trend, with other developers taking an older game, bolting on one or two additional features and flooding the market with ‘Deluxe’ versions. Ah well, as long as prizes drastically increase along with the renovations then it is hard to complain too loudly about things like unoriginality.
All in all, Hot Spin Deluxe is a compelling slot that is made all the more exciting by the random features. Knowing that they can drop at any time keeps the game fresh and your finger poised on the spin button. This game will inevitable spell the end of the original Hot Spin slot - why would anyone bother to play that anymore? Anyone in the mood for some retro-themed gaming with a bunch of extras thrown in for good measure will find plenty to be satisfied with here.
Hot Spin Deluxe is a decent entry in an otherwise over saturated genre.
