Lucky Streak Mk2: Overview
While it might not garner the usual fanfare surrounding a release from Big Time Gaming, old school pub slot enthusiasts will be over the moon with Lucky Streak Mk2. This revamp of the original Lucky Streak slot, which was released in 2014, is a colourfully brash return to the gaming days of yesteryear that's about as gaudy as they come. At first glance, it's hard to tell the two slots apart, but on closer inspection, you'll discover Big Time Gaming has programmed a few positive upgrades into the Mk2 version.
As mentioned, Lucky Streak Mk2 is a pub slot extravaganza wrapped in so many flashing lights it's like gazing at a disco ball. It has a specific look players will love or despise instantly, and is a far cry from other titles the studio has dropped recently. Lucky Streak Mk2 is as alien to Megaways, Megaquads or Megaclusters as you can get. The vivid visuals are accompanied by equally in your face sound effects. Added together, it doesn't take much imagination to pretend you're out in the wider world, surrounded by banks of noisy cabinets and keen punters feeding in coins.
Players can have the physical slot experience on any device, choosing stakes from 20 p/c to £/€40 per spin. One thing we can all agree is an improvement is the return to player rating which is now 96.32% - a vast upgrade over the original. Volatility is medium whilst hit rate is on the lower side, so it's not all smooth sailing, but decent rewards are there when it all comes together.
For a classically inspired slot, the rules are a little complicated. Well, the features are sort of, the base game is a breeze. The key rule here is landing winning combinations of at least two or three of a kind on the 5 reels. There are 20 paylines with which to do so, as well as eleven pay symbols. All are generic slot classics such as cherries, lemons, oranges, plums, bells, lemons, grapes, and watermelons as the lower pays. The higher pays are single, double, and triple bars. The top two bars on the list payout when 2 of a kind fall, up to 37.5x for five of a kind.
The horseshoe wild is similar in that it pays out for two of a kind. It is the most valuable symbol too - land five on a line to win yourself 500 times the bet. The wild also substitutes for any symbol to help make a combination.
Lucky Streak Mk2: Features
Despite all the flashing lights, there aren't as many features going on as you might first think. There are two in total - the Cash Stoppa Number Trail and Lucky Streak Free Spins.
When some symbols land on the reels they may randomly have a number printed on them. These numbers light your way along the Number Trail, located to the right of the slot, triggering multipliers of the bet line value. Making it past 11 triggers the Cash Stoppa Bonus feature.
The action then shifts to the left side of the screen where you hit the Cash Stoppa button until 'Collect' lights up. Again, players win multipliers of the stake per line. At most, you can walk away with 500 times the total bet. Alternatively, it is possible to score a 'Repeat Chance' which restarts the Cash Stoppa feature all over again for a repeat crack.
The next feature, free spins, is triggered when 3 or more Lucky Streak logo scatter symbols are in view. Players start by tapping the big green Start button which figures out how many free spins you get, up to 15. Once in, every single spin guarantees a winning combination. Free spins can also be retriggered when three or more scatters appear. On top of any line wins, 2 to 5 scatters pay out 2 to 100 times the total bet from any position.
Lucky Streak Mk2: Verdict
If you like your slots to look like pinball tables, you've struck gold with Lucky Streak Mk2. It's hard to think of many other games that would be as likely to induce seizures from all the flashing lights. No part of the screen is safe, practically everything in view is either lit up like a Christmas tree or just about to. It means there is no middle ground, you either love it, or you don't (if you suffer from migraines you probably won't). Yet, in a way, the effect is so convincing it kind of drags you into its world whether you’re willing or not.
Mk2 is certainly an improvement over the original. For anyone still playing the old Lucky Streak version, transitioning to the sequel will be absolutely seamless. The two do share much when it comes to looks and features, but the free spins feature plus user-friendlier stats make it a far more attractive option. In fact, Lucky Streak Mk2 will no doubt kill off any lingering desire to play the original. Lucky Steak Mk2 also shows something else. Big Time Gaming is as capable of designing old school machines as they are of conjuring up the envelope busting slots of tomorrow.
In the retro arcade slot category, Lucky Streak Mk2 sits at the pointy edge of the pyramid. It's a feel-good pub slot you'd happily bang away a few coins on during a summer holiday at the seaside. The look and sounds are spot on, albeit directly copied from the original. Whether you dig the style or not, it's hard not to acknowledge the amazing job Big Time Gaming has done of recreating a physical slot on your device. Even if this type of game isn't your cuppa, it's hard not to have a few sly spins to relive an older time.
Lucky Streak Mk2 is about as realistic as an old school arcade style slot gets.
