The Wild Chapo Dream Drop Q&A

Wild Chapo Dream Drop was released on August 3. Thanks to Relax Gaming, we had the opportunity to ask four quick questions about the game to original game producer Callum Sultana and Uros Bohinc who produced the Dream Drop version.

Bigwinboard: Judging from the feedback and reviews on the first instalment of Wild Chapo, the narrative and protagonist was a big hit, could you describe this and let us know where the inspiration came from?

Callum Sultana: The game has been exceptionally well received and players seem to have taken to the comedic elements as well. In terms of the inspiration, I can’t say there was one particular breakthrough moment. I’m based in Malta, which, as most people know, is bursting with colourful characters and loud personalities. So much so, that we knew we’d have to instill that flavour into a game at some point or other. Wild Chapo actually derived from this concept, but rather than trying to push a Maltese narrative that most of our demographics wouldn’t pick up on, we adapted it to something a bit more mainstream and universal. With a Latin theme and a Mediterranean personality, we ended up with this vibrant and funny-looking friend, the name followed naturally so the theme was the product of an overall light-hearted creative process.

Bigwinboard: How did you merge the theme and narrative with the game’s mechanics? Tell us about the features.

Callum Sultana: Generally, I approach game production in two stages; the mechanics always come first as I believe the foundations of a good slot lie in the gameplay itself, then I move onto the visuals, brainstorming characters, colour and environments, ensuring they reflect the features and rhythm of play. Wild Chapo is based heavily around wilds that change form or have a delayed reaction, so I thought TNT and fire would make the most sense to bring out the explosive nature of the slot.

Bigwinboard: What quality of the initial title convinced you to adapt it to the Dream Drop jackpot mechanic?

Uros Bohinc: Wild Chapo plays very quickly and its mechanics are easy to understand. Packed with fast-paced features in the Base Game and explosive Free Spins, it’s an effortless merge with our Dream Drop Bonus mechanic which matches its swift and high-impact flow. Moreover, to ensure the rhythm of Wild Chapo was respected, the Jackpot Spin triggers randomly as an additional spin in the Base Game where players need to land 5 DD symbols in order to proceed to the Dream Drop Bonus.

Bigwinboard: We see the inclusion of the Dream Drop wheel in this version of the game, was there a reason for including it in this game and not in other Dream Drop titles?

Uros Bohinc: Wild Chapo’s been one of our top performing titles across numerous markets, therefore a decision to introduce it to the Dream Drop portfolio was natural. It’s able to appeal to a wide audience and brought a great opportunity to have players warm up to the relatively new mechanic. The jackpot wheel is something that most players would have come across already, so you might say it makes for an easier Dream Drop onboarding in that sense. From an aesthetic standpoint, the wheel fits the theme perfectly, providing the heart-pounding, adrenaline-pimping experience that Wild Chapo is celebrated for.
