Treasure Mine Power Reels: Slot Overview

For their tenth Power Reels slot, developer Red Tiger takes fans of the format deep underground in a mining themed game called Treasure Mine Power Reels. The star of the slot remains the Power Reels system itself; while built up around it, Red Tiger has used a cute dragon and a miner, to star alongside a diamond as interacting wild symbols to produce several special features.

If you haven't played a Power Reels game before, then the huge slab of 8 reels and 6 rows looks massive at first. And as per usual, the big reel set is not complemented by a huge number of ways to win, as one could expect, being limited to only 30 fixed paylines zig-zagging their way across the grid. Despite the grid's size, Red Tiger has left plenty of room to build some mining atmosphere in the background via lanterns, pickaxes, train tracks, and piles of sparkling rich stuff. Mining is a common slots theme, and Treasure Mine Power Reels doesn't do anything new with it initially. However, an element of personality is inserted by the characters and the way they interact, so let's hold off final judgement before running them through their paces in the features section.

Treasure Mine Power Reels slot

Like others in the series, Treasure Mine Power Reels feels aimed at casual players after a bit of a laugh down the shaft rather than high stakes gambling. The math model has been tuned to a medium volatile setting, and the default RTP comes in at 95.75%. Potential really is not Treasure Mine Power Reels' strong suit, offering unimpressive top payouts of only 1,172x, though, to cut the game some slack, the way you win them has been designed to offer some decent entertainment. Stake range is wide for Red Tiger to reflect the low max multiplier where bets from 10 p/c to $/€80 may be set - on any device.

A win occurs when three to eight matching symbols land adjacent to one another, on a bet way, starting from the leftmost reel. Treasure Mine Power Reels isn't a completely run of the mill mining slot. The game has a slight fantasy element as well, induced by the characters and symbols. Low pays start with 10-A card royals adorned in gems, while highs are glowing green lanterns, a sort of Steampunk looking device, a helmet that uses a crystal to provide light, and finally, a Mjolnir looking hammer. Values for 8 premium symbols on a payline vary from 12.8x the bet up to 25.6x. Wilds appear in a number of forms, including three special wilds covered below. Regular wilds are simple 1x1 sized tiles that substitute for any pay symbol. Combinations of wilds pay up to 30x the bet for a line of eight.

Treasure Mine Power Reels: Slot Features

Treasure Mine Power Reels slot

The features in Treasure Mine Power Reels are based on 3 character wild symbols and the various ways they affect each other. These are Miner, Dragon, and Diamond Wild symbols. Each type of wild can only land once per spin though more than one type can land at the same time, appearing as 2x2 sized tiles. Like the regulars, character wild symbols substitute for all paying symbols to complete winning combinations.

Where they get interesting is when different types of wilds land at the same time:

  • When Dragon and Miner Wilds are in view, the Dragon shoots fire at the Miner. As the Miner scurries around the reels, he leaves trails of regular wild symbols behind him, then a win evaluation takes place.
  • If Miner and Diamond Wilds hit, the Miner leaps onto the Diamond to hit it with his hammer. This causes cash prizes to fly off, which are awarded to the player.
  • When Dragons and Diamond Wilds land, the Dragon shoots fire at the Diamond causing little Diamond Wild symbols to fly onto new random positions. The Dragon may repeat this process up to two more times.

If all 3 land at the same time, the Dragon Wild shoots fire at the Diamond, sending mini Diamond wilds flying to new positions. Then, the Miner runs around mining the Diamond Wilds for cash prizes.

Treasure Mine Power Reels: Slot Verdict

If a studio makes ten of anything in the gambling biz, they must be onto a good thing. Players who go for the Power Reels setup will no doubt be entertained by Treasure Mine Power Reels as well. Red Tiger has added fantasy to the mining theme to mix it up a bit, allowing the studio to embellish the game with dragons and fantasy style miners, which chase or flame each other. In doing so, Treasure Mine Power Reels ends up being one of the lighter-hearted slots in the series.

Light-hearted definitely transfers over to the gameplay as well, which is pretty basic until the different wild types start landing at the same time. Then it gets kind of fun, seeing how the wilds interact with each other and what sort of results their tomfoolery can produce. After firing off a few average wins, you realise not a lot. As with most in the Power Reels range, low paylines keep a tight rein on what an 8x6 sized grid can ultimately achieve. In Treasure Mine Power Reels, the odd decent payout occurs, but at full power, the max win is constrained to just 1,172 times the stake. Since there are no free spins, that amount is probably achieved by an epic dust-up between the Dragon, Miner, and Diamond on screen at the same time. For casual gamers, that might be more than enough, but hardcore gamers will undoubtedly be put off by the low potential. In other words, it's very clear which segment of the market Red Tiger had in mind when designing this slot.

By now, it should be clear who is into the Power Reels concept and who isn't. For hardcore gamers, Treasure Mine Power Reels won't be convincing anyone to cross over. On the other hand, players who enjoy the banks for reels and rows Power Reels provides should find plenty to chuckle about in Treasure Mine Power Reels, as the trio of special wilds do their thing across the outsized game board.

For Power Reels enthusiasts, Treasure Mine Power Reels is sure to provide some humorous gaming; for others outside this scope, it's amusing but lacklustre.
