“Emma” thought she won 13 million SEK – was only paid 130,000
Emma, who is in reality named something else, was thrilled when she thought she had landed a 13 million SEK win on a game whilst playing Mega Cash Stacks by Bulletproof Games (powered by Yggdrasil Gaming) on ATG casino. The joy, however, turned into despair when according to the casino, the win was a result of a technical mishap and the actual sum was 130,000 SEK.
Emma and her lawyer now prepare to take ATG to court – “they themselves caused the issue, it’s not a software error, it’s negligence“, says Emma’s lawyer Jakob Melander. Emma herself describes the disappointment after the incident with the following words: “I was sitting on the couch with my phone and logged in to ATG’s website where they have casino games. After a few rounds, I had won a total sum of 13 million SEK.”

But Emma only received a hundredth of that win, in other words, only 130,000 SEK. At first, Emma thought the remaining sum would be paid out later, but after almost three weeks she was told that a graphical issue had caused the win to be displayed significantly larger than what was actually the case. According to ATG, the comma sign had been misplaced, making the win appear as a 13,000,000 SEK hit rather than 130,000 SEK. Emma continues: “It was a major disappointment when they broke the news to me. I was in shock“.
Mega Cash Stacks, as the game in question is called, was launched this summer in several countries by many different operators, but after the incident, ATG decided to pull the game. Emma and her lawyer are now preparing to challenge ATG in court, claiming that the terms and conditions do not cover technical issues.
ATG themselves claim that Emma should have understood that the amount displayed did not add up but also that a legal process can result in ATG demanding a return of the payment already made to Emma. Daniel Waerme, who is the lawyer representing ATG said: “The terms that are in place state that, if there is a visual error or any other type of software error, the round should be void. Essentially, this means that the player neither has the right to keep the actual win nor the win displayed on the screen.”
This was an answer Emma was not content with, saying: “It’s unprofessional coming from such a company. They basically make it seem like I should be happy to receive anything at all. It’s almost like a threat.”
It remains to be seen what will come out of it. What is your opinion, should Emma be paid or not? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments below…
