Isn't it funny how you can go about your daily life unaware of certain things, or at least not paying them much attention, then when you do become aware of them, you seem to see them everywhere? There's even a name for this scenario. It's called the Baader-Meinhof phenomenon, named after a German terrorist organisation in the 1970s. Say a friend is talking about a red motorbike they are thinking of buying, then from that moment on, all you seem to see on the road are red motorbikes everywhere. No matter where the eye was cast, it sooner or later bumped into a slot that would sling a win as long as the right number of symbols were in view, anywhere on the game board. Here's another one from Red Tiger associates Max Win Gaming known as Jelly Multihops - a  game that is played out there, somewhere in the wide, wide universe where things are weird and wonderful. On this world, the inhabitants are jelly-like entities who bounce onto a gaming grid surrounded by a plasticky-looking exploration outpost beneath an extra-terrestrially exotic purple night sky.

Jelly Multihops is played on a 7x7-sized gaming matrix, dropping 49 mostly jellified symbols in on each game round. Wagers of 20 p/c to $/€10 may be placed on each paid symbol drop. A highly volatile game, the return to player comes in at 96.23% by default, rising to 96.43% when buying the bonus round, which costs 100 times the bet. In the base game and bonus round, the core objective is to land at least 13 matching symbols anywhere on the game board to collect a win. Winning symbols do not need to be adjacent to each other or start from anywhere in particular on the grid.

All of Jelly Multihops' pay symbols are quirky, cute, jelly-looking critters of the Reactoonz-ish variety. From low to high, the critters are coloured orange, green, light blue, darker blue, purple, pink, and reddy orange. They pay 0.1 to 2 times the bet for a 13-14 OAK scatter win or 6 to 50 times the bet when 21+ matching symbols are in view. The wild symbol substitutes for all paying symbols, a bold move in a scatter pays game, plus it can get multipliers. It doesn't really specifically say this in the rules, yet wilds only seem to appear via the Random Wild feature.

Cascading Wins

Each symbol involved in a scatter win in the base game or bonus round is removed from the reels. The empty spaces this produces are filled by symbols falling from above, and the process will trigger again if a new scatter win appears.

Random Wild

The Random Wild activates randomly in the base game. A Multiplier Grid appears beneath the regular symbols, where each position has a numerical value. The wild symbol takes one of the values, and when winning symbols are removed, the wild leaps to one of the empty positions and adds the value printed there to its multiplier value. Wilds persist throughout cascade sequences.

Free Spins

Landing 4 bonus symbols awards players 8 free spins. Before each spin, the Random Wild feature is activated. The wild symbol multiplier persists through a cascade sequence, but it resets again between free spins.

Jelly Multihops: Slot Verdict

After playing through Jelly Multihops for a while, gotta say it was alright. Nothing amazing, nothing that's likely to have masses of players looking up old pals on dusty, cobwebbed social network sites to persuade them to have a try, but nothing terrible either. The game possesses one or two interesting ideas based around the scatter pays/win everywhere mechanic, meaning those who like the scatter format might do well to give the game a try, at least.

It contains a few quirks as well, though. Maybe not major quirks, but here we go. For one, you need quite a lot of symbols to make an entry-level scatter win. Often, a game like this will fire off a win when at least 8 matching symbols land in view. Not saying the system in Jelly Multihops creates wins less often or anything along those lines, though the official hit rate was not available. Yet, it seemed harder to quickly eyeball potential wins compared to an 8 or more-of-a-kind system. Wins did seem to chain into longer cascading sequences during Random Wild triggers which was nice, though totally anecdotal, so don't quote us on that one. Winning potential certainly doesn't suffer under the 12+ OAK system used in Jelly Multihops, as the max win figure has been listed as 10,000 times the bet.

Another one of the nice things about Jelly Multihops is it didn't come across as a Sweet Bonanza copy. And even though multipliers are critical to the game's success, it didn't feel like Gates of Olympus either - 2 scatter-win games, both incidentally from Pragmatic Play, that sort of serve as de facto benchmarks for other scatter win games. And so, there are one or two foibles, plus the theme use came across as a little half-hearted, but there is some interesting stuff in Jelly Multihops as well, making it a satisfactory, while not outstanding, contribution to the rapidly growing scatter win category.
