Silicon Spinners: Slot Overview
Software provider AvatarUX's dive into the digitization of life continues with the online slot Silicon Spinners. Made in conjunction with Mr Wu, it joins the likes of Tik Talkers as it explores a world that is blurring the lines between the physical and the digital. In the case of Silicon Spinners, the game shines a spotlight on tech titans who have or are in the process of reshaping life as we know it, either through social networking, operating system dominance, interstellar travel, or shopping online.
If you've got a wild tech idea that is screaming to be brought to life, then there are few places like Silicon Valley that let such thoughts manifest in the physical realm, no matter how outrageous. Located in the San Francisco Bay Area, Silicon Valley hosts heavy hitters in the tech industry, such as Apple, Alphabet, and Meta, making it a hub of innovation. For some, this might sound like a modern-day tech Nirvana; for others, it might be considered a major contributor to humanity's slide into mindless, soulless, bent neck, screen staring, zombification. Silicon Spinners sits somewhere between those extremes, using humour rather than condemnation to give the game spirit.

Silicon Spinners' expandable gaming grid starts each base game spin by landing 3 symbols on each of its 6 main reels. Winning combinations are formed when matching symbols land on 3 or more adjacent reels starting from the leftmost or the rightmost reel, meaning the game pays both ways. The grid is able to reach 6 rows high at the most, where 46,656 ways to win are active. 10 cents to $/€300 may be staked per spin, which runs a highly volatile math model, producing a default RTP of 95.92%-96.07%. In addition, players may activate the ante bet at 1.5x the stake to triple the chance of entering free spins.
Nine to Ace card ranks start the symbol hierarchy off as the lows, then 3 symbols of digital bliss or despair are the mediums, followed by 4 parodies of tech titans as the high-pay symbols. Six-of-a-kind winning combinations pay 0.6x for the lows, 1.5x for the mediums, and 2.5x for the highs, bearing in mind that 6 OAKs pay from one side only. Wild symbols may only land on the leftmost and rightmost reels, substituting for any regular paying symbols.
Silicon Spinners: Slot Features

Silicon Spinners sees the Zap Reel make another appearance, joined by PopWins, Zap Reel Rewards, a gamble wheel, free spins, and Xpress bonus buys.
PopWins
Each winning symbol pops off the gaming area and is replaced by 2 symbols, increasing the reel height. This repeats until no new win is created. When reels reach their full height in the base game, 2 free spins are granted. Reels reset to their default size for the start of a new base game spin.
Zap Reel
On top of the main grid is a 6-position Zap Reel. The leftmost and rightmost positions start locked, and landing a wild symbol on the leftmost or reel unlocks them for the duration of the spin. The Zap Reel cascades right to left on each spin, landing a new set of symbols, including regular symbols as well as Zap Reel Rewards.
- Sync Reels - syncs 2 to 4 reels below the feature symbol till the end of the spin, so all affected reels land the same set of symbols.
- Mystery Reel - affects 1 to 4 reels below the feature symbol, filling these reels with copies of any random regular symbol. If these symbols form a win, the new symbols appearing will also be copies of 1 random regular symbol.
- Win Multiplier - activates if there is a win below it, adding its multiplier (x2 to x100) to the winning combination that triggered it. Multipliers are multiplied together when combined.
- Symbol Multiplier - can be any regular symbol with a multiplier attached that applies to matching symbol wins below its position.
Bonus & Super Bonus
The leftmost and rightmost positions on the Zap Reel are initially locked by Hot Bonus blockers. Landing a wild on the leftmost, rightmost, or both reels unlocks these positions, and any symbol or feature reward can then appear. Bonus and Super Bonus symbols can only appear under the unlocked Hot Bonus blockers. Hitting 2 of them triggers free spins.
Gamble Wheel
Before playing free spins, it is possible to have a punt on the gamble wheel in an attempt to win more free spins and guaranteed wild symbols. Losing a gamble spin sends players back to the base game.
Free Spins
Landing 2 bonus symbols in view triggers 8 free spins. Landing a bonus symbol + a Super bonus symbol in the base game triggers 10 free spins and 1 wild symbol guaranteed to land on each free spin. Landing 2 Super bonus symbols in the base game triggers 12 free spins with 2 wild symbols guaranteed on each free spin.
The reels start the free spins round at 4 symbols high, and the progress of unlocking (growing) the reels does not reset between free spins. It only resets to the lowest achieved reel height. In this feature, landing a bonus symbol awards +1 to +3 extra free spins. Landing a Super bonus symbol grants +2 to +4 free spins. Fully unlocking all reels to their full height grants +4 extra free spins.
Xpress
Here is where players may pay 100x the bet to gamble on the wheel, 100x the bet for 8 free spins, or 400x the bet for 12 free spins with 2 wilds guaranteed on each spin.

Silicon Spinners: Slot Verdict
These AvatarUX and Mr Wu matchups have so far ended up producing rather imaginative, out-there slots such as FloridaMan and DonKey & the GOATS. As a result, there were expectations that Silicon Spinners would be a bit further out there than how it turned out to be. It definitely has its moments, though. The audio effects are neat, very Nolimit City-ish, and the character symbols have a certain Spitting Image touch to them, which was all very humorous. The game's main audiovisual letdown was the somewhat dull background image, a sizable chunk taken up by a blank tablet screen and brown bits 'n pieces on the sides.
Silicon Spinners' gameplay gives the show a boost, though, and the Zap Reel proves its worth once again. AvatarUX has the PopWins, growing reels thing down pat by now, so that combination of mechanics runs about as smoothly as anyone could ask for. Layered over the top are a useful bunch of Zap Reel Rewards, and seeing multipliers able to multiply each other is more thrilling than when they add to each other. Multiplier values can be quite high, too, as is the game's 20,000x the bet win cap, so while Silicon Spinners doesn't attain tech billionaire status, it's fairly up there.
All in all, Silicon Spinners turned out to be another entertaining Mr Wu/Avatar UX production. It wasn't as exhilarating as initially hoped for, and the creatively chosen theme ended up a double-edged sword in some ways. On one hand, the funny moments, as well as the overall topic handling, create a humorous atmosphere. On the other hand, the gameplay and mechanics, while totally fine, lacked the sort of killer feature that really reflects the 'move fast and break things' ethos Silicon Valley is famous for.
Silicon Spinners is a well-executed slot with fun mechanics and a humorous touch, but it falls short of delivering a truly groundbreaking experience.
