The Goonies Cash Inferno Slot

Blueprint Gaming returns to one of its longest-running licensed series with The Goonies Cash Inferno, building on earlier branded Goonies releases rather than taking the franchise in a completely new direction. The game combines cash collect mechanics, progression features and a layered bonus system, rewarding longer sessions as players gradually unlock stronger upgrades. While there is plenty happening beneath the surface, much of it follows ideas Blueprint has been refining for years.

The base game is played across a six-reel layout with 6,400 ways to win. Wilds appear on the middle reels, while the main mechanic revolves around Cash symbols, Collect symbols and Skeleton Keys. Whenever a Collect lands alongside cash values, the prizes are awarded immediately. Skeleton Keys add another layer by collecting rewards directly from the separate Cash Inferno board. Green Keys collect a single prize, Blue Keys can gather several values at once, while Red Keys multiply collected rewards by up to x5. Cash values range from 1x to 500x the stake, giving the feature reasonable upside even before the bonus arrives.

Progression comes through the Treasure Trail, which advances whenever Gem symbols appear. Reaching various milestones awards bonus picks that are stored for later use, while collecting all 21 Gems guarantees entry into the Inferno Spins feature. Alternatively, three or more Bonus Scatters can trigger the bonus directly, with four scatters immediately completing the Treasure Trail and awarding every remaining bonus pick.

Inferno Spins starts with 10 free spins, but the round changes depending on how many bonus picks were collected beforehand. These upgrades can add additional Collect symbols, award extra spins, introduce more powerful Skeleton Keys or activate Golden One-Eyed Willie, which boosts every value appearing on the Cash Inferno board. Players who reach the feature after fully progressing through the Treasure Trail receive a noticeably stronger version than those entering it through a standard scatter trigger.

From a mathematical standpoint, the numbers are less impressive. RTP sits at just 94%, well below the industry average, while volatility is high and the maximum win reaches 10,500x the bet. Unlike many modern releases, there is no bonus buy option, meaning players must rely entirely on natural progression to experience the feature at its strongest.

The Goonies Cash Inferno is a competent addition to Blueprint's licensed catalogue, but it rarely escapes the shadow of its predecessors. Fans of the film and earlier Goonies slots will appreciate the familiar characters and expanding progression system, yet the underlying gameplay feels like another variation of mechanics the studio has used repeatedly over recent years. There's enough content to remain entertaining for a while, but outside the licence itself, it offers few reasons to choose it over Blueprint's stronger branded releases.
