Fury Festival: Slot Overview

You don't generally go to a funfair to be terrorised by the people that work there, unless, that is, you happen to find yourself visiting the one in software provider Skywind's spooky online slot Fury Festival. This is a funhouse from the dark side, where jesters are a mix of Art the Clown and Pennywise, and the magician doesn't even look like he's fully alive, on account of the green skin and skeletal features. Willing participants are thrown into this maelstrom of madness, tasked with finding their way out, sanity in check, aided by a cluster pays win system, individual cell multipliers, and a bunch of other neatly twisted components.

Night has fallen, and the full moon has risen, making it an ideal time to get freaked out at the local funfair. Or not, if things like skulls, slimy green stuff, and sadistic clowns aren't high on the list of things you want to see while having a punt. Anyway, this is the world Fury Festival lives in, and it's quite an atmospheric one as well, in large part thanks to a wacky carnival soundtrack. The visuals are quite good too, though it's a shame the background stays more or less the same through the base game and into the bonus rounds. Perhaps when descending into free spins, if the game significantly turned up its thematic madness, it would have amplified the action taking place on the grid further, but no, it doesn't really, which feels like a missed opportunity for Skywind to really flex its mayhem credentials.

Fury Festival slot
Fury Festival slot - base game

Fury Festival is played on a 6x6 gaming area, awarding wins when clusters of 5 or more vertically and/or adjacent matching symbols land. Regular winning symbols are removed from the reels, and new symbols fall in from above. This process repeats until no more winning combinations appear. Skywind has given the math model volatility a medium-high rating, and designed three RTP configs, with 96.5% the better option. Loads of stake options are available, ranging from $/€0.20 to $/€200.

From the low side of the pay table to the high, Fury Festival lands clubs, diamonds, hearts, spades, teddy bears, zombie magicians, and crystal ball gazers. Clusters of 5 OAK pay 0.1x-0.3x, going up to 3x-25x for a 15+ OAK cluster. Interestingly, wild symbols do not find themselves part of the festivities.

Fury Festival: Slot Features

Fury Festival slot - free spins

Fury Festival's furious features consist of Cannons, Bombs, Fury Spins, free spins, Specials, and feature buys.

Cannon & Bomb Symbols

Cannons and Super Cannons appear on any reel. Both select 5-18 cells on the grid, depending on the Cannon colour. Regular Cannons double the cells' multiplier, whereas the Super Cannon triples the multipliers. Bombs are similar, except regular Bombs double the multiplier on all cells, while the Super Bomb triples the multiplier on all cells. Cannons, Super Cannons, Bombs, and Super Bombs are removed from the reels with winning symbols only. The maximum a cell multiplier can be is x2,187. A multiplier is applied to all winning combinations containing a cell with a multiplier. Multipliers are added together when more than one is used in the same win. On the next base game spin, multipliers are reset.

Scatters & Super Scatters

Regular scatters appear on any reel in the base and bonus game. The super scatter only appears on the rightmost reel in the base game, though it can appear on any reel during super free spins. Hitting 3, 4, 5, or 6 scatters in the main game triggers 10 free spins with 3, 4, 5, or 6 Fury Spins, respectively. Landing 2, 3, 4, or 5 scatters plus a super scatter awards 10 super free spins, plus 3, 4, 5, or 6 super Fury Spins.

Bonus Feature

Fury Spins take place before free spins and land only blanks, Cannons, Super Cannons, Bombs, and Super Bombs. Cells that get multipliers carry them over to the free spins round. Multipliers are held throughout the feature, and landing 3 or more scatters awards +5 free spins. Super scatters cannot land in regular free spins.

During Super Fury Spins, only blanks, Super Cannons and Super Bombs may land. Super free spins use the same mechanics as free spins, though regular scatters do not appear, nor do regular Bombs and Cannons. Hitting 3 or more super scatters awards +5 super free spins.

Optional Bets & Feature Buys

There are four ante bets to choose from, called Specials. The x2 Chance and x5 Chance cost 1.5 and 2.5x the stake to have 2x and 5x the chance of triggering free spins or super free spins, respectively. Super Spin 1 guarantees to land 2 or more Cannons, Bombs, Super Cannons, or Super Bombs for 5x, or players can activate Super Spin 2 costing 10x to guarantee 2 or more Super Cannons or Super Bombs. No type of scatter can land on a Super Spin.

From there, players may buy free spins with 3-6 Fury Spins for 100x, free spins with 6 Fury Spins for 200x, super free spins with 3-6 Fury Spins for 300x, or super free spins with 6 Fury Spins for 600x the bet.

Fury Festival: Slot Verdict

Fury Festival makes a decent entrance, laying on the freaky funfair atmosphere in order to spook players who happen to stumble in. As mentioned, it might have been better if Skywind had really dialled up the theme during bonus rounds rather than just using more or less the same background throughout the entire game. Not a deal breaker, just a wee surprise that nothing major changed from phase to phase. What was also a surprise was the way the studio has put its grid multiplier system to work. The assumption was that Fury Festival would be closer to Sugar Rush than what it turned out to be. Skywind's version brought to mind, in some weird way, Backseat Gaming's Pirate Bonanza, but even then, Fury Festival does its own thing.

That thing works much better in free spins too for the obvious reasons that the cell multipliers are progressive till the end of the feature. Multipliers don't double on consecutive tumbles as they do elsewhere in other games, but the Cannons, Bombs, and super versions are able to more than pick up the slack and lather multipliers across the reels. Bonus buys were often positive, though results may vary wildly, of course, and the max win is an impressive 20,000x the bet. The Fury Spins pre-feature phase is an exciting add-on in its own right as well, teeing the proper bonus round up nicely, or not, depending on how they play out.

Extra thematic expansion might have lifted the game further, but what's here works well, has been smartly thought through, and on the whole, the Fury Festival package is a positive one, supplying something for gamblers on the hunt for a new grid multiplier game. Fury Festival has a cast of clowns and features that are able to terrify or thrill in equal measure, well maybe not terrify, making it worth a demo for players who have worked through the likes of Sugar Rush, Duck Hunters, and Phantom Pulse, and are looking for a scary clown-themed alternative.
