Moonlight Princess Slot

Moonlight Princess is an exclusive release from Pragmatic Play available on selected casinos only.

Another princess, another shower of multipliers, and another trip through the Pragmatic Play production line. Moonlight Princess makes little effort to disguise its relationship with Gates of Olympus and Starlight Princess, recycling the same scatter pays formula with a different character presiding over the action. The one detail that genuinely stands out is the unusually generous 98% RTP, a figure considerably more interesting than anything happening on the screen.

The Japanese-inspired fantasy setting introduces an anime-style princess surrounded by colourful symbols and decorative flourishes. It's competently assembled, with the polished presentation expected from Pragmatic Play, but lacks much individual character. Beyond the artwork, there's precious little to distinguish Moonlight Princess from its predecessors, making the theme feel more like a cosmetic substitution than a reason for another release.

The game operates on a 6x5 grid where eight or more matching symbols anywhere on the reels produce a payout. Winning symbols disappear through tumbling sequences, allowing replacements to drop into their positions and potentially generate further wins. Stakes range from 0.20 to 300 per spin, with medium volatility and a maximum payout of 5,000x the bet. The relatively modest maximum win is somewhat disappointing, although the exceptionally high theoretical return provides a meaningful counterbalance.

Multiplier symbols form the centrepiece of the gameplay, appearing with values ranging from x2 to x500. Once a tumbling sequence concludes, their values are added together and applied to the accumulated winnings. It's a straightforward arrangement capable of producing substantial payouts when several multipliers appear together, but the regular gameplay can become monotonous while waiting for those combinations to materialise.

Four or more Scatters trigger 15 Free Spins, where the multiplier mechanic becomes considerably more powerful. Instead of resetting after each sequence, multiplier values accumulate into a persistent global multiplier throughout the bonus. This allows successive winning spins to benefit from earlier multiplier additions, potentially creating substantial payouts as the feature progresses. Landing at least three Scatters during the round awards another five spins, extending the opportunity to build the multiplier further.

The persistent multiplier gives the bonus a welcome sense of progression, although it doesn't introduce anything that hasn't already been explored extensively elsewhere in the developer's catalogue. An Ante Bet option increases the stake by 25% and doubles the probability of triggering Free Spins, while a Bonus Buy costing 100x the bet provides direct access to the feature where permitted.

Moonlight Princess presents an interesting contradiction. Its mathematical offering is unusually attractive, particularly the 98% RTP, yet the underlying gameplay feels thoroughly exhausted. There's little wrong with the mechanics themselves, and the accumulating multipliers can certainly deliver excitement during a productive bonus round.

Pragmatic Play has demonstrated that this formula can be successful, but endlessly recycling it does little for the studio's creative reputation - even if an exclusive release (which tend to be clones). Moonlight Princess is polished, accessible and mathematically appealing, yet unmistakably another catalogue filler relying on an established formula rather than bringing anything worthwhile to the table.
