If Mikey’s monologue gave you chills, there’s a good chance you’re a fan of the cult classic Richard Donner film The Goonies and, by extension, Blueprint Gaming‘s hugely successful branded slot. Built off the back of TED, The Goonies was jam-packed with all manner of features, including six supplementary extras like Mouth’s Lucky Coins and six full-blown bonus games such as One-Eye Willy’s Treasure Bonus.
For many, when it comes to watching the film or playing the game, once is rarely enough. So, it is with Blueprint Gaming who has revisited The Goonies and given it an overhaul. The result is The Goonies Return which is shaping up to be everything the original was and a whole lot more. Blueprint has added to the experience, so the return to Astoria is as much a feature fest as the original game.
When it comes to layout, The Goonies Return is played on a 5-reel, 20-payline game grid. Visually, the graphics have been improved, giving them a slightly more defined look while keeping an unmistakable connection to the previous game. The tunes have been modified as well, and significant changes have taken place to the long list of features. And true to form, The Goonies Return is drenched in extras, culminating in One-Eyed Willy Riches. There are just as many lesser features lighting up the reels, and players can rest assured Chunk’s Truffle Shuffle is back, but with a new upgraded version of the mechanic.
Fans of the first will be chuffed to know the new bonus rounds have been designed with the same feeling of progression as before. Bonuses can be gambled on the bonus wheel for the chance of upgrading them. Blueprint Gaming has also added a new Feature Exchange function. Titled the One-Eyed Willy Exchange, this gives players the chance to gamble reel wins to trigger one of the bonus rounds – potentially allowing you to experience them more quickly.
It’s not just features that have been reworked for The Goonies Return. Blueprint Gaming has also tweaked payouts to meet the demands of a modern gambling audience, giving players a chance to win up to 50,000x times the stake. In short, Mikey’s gang is back, as is their nemesis, the Fratellis, there are more features than One-Eyed Willy’s got gold coins, and potential has increased.
