Blazing Bull Slot: Overview
Developer Kalamba Games usually tries to be clever when it comes to game design by using unusual features - for better or for worse. Blazing Bull is something of an anomaly in that regard, but still heads off-piste by getting players in touch with their spirit guides. At least, that’s what the game blurb says. However, Blazing Bull actually keeps its feet firmly on the ground in both a physical and metaphysical sense. It doesn’t get all new age-y, and even better, it's free of the frivolous "Hyper" features which often clog up a Kalamba title. That’s not to say that it’s devoid of features, it’s just that Kalamba have simplified the process and crafted an uncomplicated slot that will appeal to players who prefer more straight forward gaming.
Blazing Bull is certainly a nice looking game. Vibrant is the word that springs to mind to describe it. The background has a misty manifest destiny era look to it, with wild mountains sloping down into rivers and a verdant valley where the grid has been placed. Creeping ivy surrounds the 6-reel, 4-row setup, and a light percussive soundtrack completes the scene. Symbols are crisp, bright, and the whole picture is one of the nicest to come from Kalamba’s studio so far. Gone are the cartoon zanies they often release to be replaced with a more realistic look, and Blazing Bull is all the better for it.
It’s not completely realistic though. The high pay symbols have an etheric, glowing-eyed look, and the bull literally blazes with fire. The bull is also the highest paying symbol with 6 of a kind worth 5 times the stake - followed by a bear, an eagle, a cougar, and a wolf. These high pay symbols only need two of a kind for a winner. The low pays, on the other hand, need at least three and are made up of 9-A iron royals which also light up when they hit. Winning symbols can land on any row, consecutively from left to right, which adds up to 4,096 win ways. The wild, meanwhile, is represented by a dream catcher and substitutes for all regular symbols.
Bets aren’t super friendly for low-rollers which start at 60 p/c and can be raised to £/€120 per spin. One good thing about Kalamba’s slots, however, is that you often get a good return to player rating with them. Blazing Bull is no different and offers an exceptionally generous RTP of 97.42%. Another high stat is the volatility which blazes away behind the scenes on a 10/10 rating whilst hit frequency isn’t bad either on 28.6%. The only thing that lets the side down is potential which we will get to shortly. For now, the features.
Blazing Bull Slot: Features
Above the reels are two meters - one on the left for the Gold Bonus, one on the right for the Silver Bonus. Whenever a Silver or Gold Bonus symbol lands, it increases the respective meter, which adds more free spins to the bonus game when it's triggered. When 3 or more of one coin type lands, it triggers the corresponding bonus game. The Gold Bonus Game comes with at least 9 free spins and up to 30 max. The Silver Bonus Game has at least 7 free spins and up to 20 max.
Both bonus games came with two added benefits; wilds are upgraded during Silver free spins to x2 multiplier wilds, and in Gold spins, they become x3 multiplier wilds. Both bonus games are padded out with a new bonus symbol adding an extra advantage. This symbol rewards players like so:
- Two bonus symbols award +2 free spins.
- Three bonus symbols award a 2x win +5 free spins.
- Four bonus symbols awards a 5x win +8 free spins.
- Five bonus symbols awards a 6x win +10 free spins.
- Six bonus symbols awards a 50x win +15 free spins.
Once the bonus game has completed, the free spin meters start again from their original levels.
Blazing Bull Slot: Verdict
Sometimes less is more, and this is certainly the case with Blazing Bull. Other titles from this developer to come our way were stuffed with intricate features that could sometimes get in the way of kicking back and enjoying the game at hand. That’s all been left on the cutting room floor with Blazing Bull. Kalamba Games has stripped it down to basics; there is no Hyperbet, no Hyperspins, which tremendously enhances the overall experience. Of course, there is a time and place for slots wizardry, but in the North American Wilderness it’s sort of fitting that nothing gets between a man, or lady, and the task at hand.
There is actually quite a lot to like about Blazing Bull. For one, it looks great with its subtly animated background and symbols which quite literally burn on the reels. Everything is clear and bright and draws you in effortlessly. The gameplay is good too. It might be a little simplistic, but for a straight forward slot with a fairly traditional bonus game, it’s not a bad option. Other fine points are the higher than usual RTP and solid hit rate which alone are worth giving the slot a chance.
If you are waiting for the inevitable piece of bad news, then you’ll probably find that with the game’s potential. Coming in at 2,667 times your total stake, the max win is by far the most disappointing stat with Blazing Bull. It’s a tricky one, no one’s complaining about a 2,000x+ win, but next to the other good points, it does let the game down.
Aside from the potential, the rest of the game is pretty good and one of Kalamba’s better slots for sure. The high RTP is a appreciated bonus, and the overall package has been well designed and presented.
Kalamba Games has toned down the chicanery to let Blazing Bull breathe, resulting in one of their more playable slots in recent times.
