Book of Ultimate Infinity: Slot Overview

Next to have a shot with ReelPlay’s Infinity Reels mechanic is SG Digital in Egyptian themed slot Book of Ultimate Infinity. Proving to be a bit of a money-spinner for ReelPlay, SG Digital is the third developer to license the mechanic so far and have decided to incorporate a bit of an old school twist to it all. Alongside the modern dynamic is a bonus game replete with full reel expanding symbols chosen out of a dusty old tome. This is 'Book of' gaming in a modern setting, so, does it work?

We might have used the word 'modern', yet the backdrop is thoroughly ancient. There’s sort of no choice when using this theme where pyramids sit on the horizon, joined by the Nile, palm trees, and temples - the classic Ancient Egypt look. Clouds drift lazily across the sky, while an Arabian inspired soundtrack make it all come together. It’s brightly appealing, though nothing you haven’t seen a dozen times before.

Book of Ultimate Infinity fires up on any device where bets from 20 p/c to $/€50 per spin can be set. It’s a game that requires patience to get to the good bits since triggering free spins takes perseverance to battle through a sand storm of dead spins. Its moody volatility means the game does pop at points, and overall potential isn’t bad at all. Neither is RTP on 96.5%, a figure comfortably above average.

At the start of every spin 3 reels display 4 symbols on each. If at least 3 identical symbols land on reels 1, 2, and 3, another reel is added for another chance to win. This process continues as long as the rightmost reel improves the win. In a nutshell, you have the Infinity Reels system. Incidentally, reels are capped at 50, which isn’t exactly infinite, so there's that. The first time a reel is added, a win multiplier of x2 is awarded, increasing by +1 for each subsequent new reel.

A winning combination is formed when at least 5 matching symbols land from the first reel onwards. The amount you win equates to the number of symbols in the combo multiplied by the individual symbol value. At the lower end of the scale, we find J-A royals, followed by knives, Ankhs, a queen, a gold statue, and a pharaoh. The premium picture symbols are worth from 0.10 to 0.25x the bet per symbol, so a five of a kind win net 0.5 – 1.25 times the stake. Keep in mind that multipliers and extended reels do pep the values up occasionally. Also helping up the win rate is an un-Egyptian looking wild substituting all other symbols, except the Gold Book or special Expanding Symbols.

Book of Ultimate Infinity: Slot Features

Book of Ultimate Infinity - free spins with special expanding symbol

As well as Infinity Reels, players benefit from free spins triggered by the Gold Book scatter. Triggering the bonus is a bit unconventional - at the start of every spin, a reel (from 6 to 15) is randomly selected to contain the Gold Book. If reels are added during a win sequence and reach the selected reel, 10 free spins are awarded. In other words, you will have to expand the reels to a minimum of 6 to be able to trigger the bonus.

At the start of free spins, one symbol is randomly chosen as the special expanding symbol. If free spins are retriggered, the special symbol remains the same. Landing a special symbol or a book on the rightmost reel always adds another reel, regardless of whether the win is improved. Similar to regular ‘book’ slots, when 2 or more reels contain the expanding symbol they expand to cover all positions and pay whether they are consecutive or not.

Book of Ultimate Infinity: Slot Verdict

Like Bill Hicks might have said, just as evolution didn’t end by us growing thumbs, SG Digital shows there are still evolutionary opportunities for ‘book of’ style gaming. In one regard, Book of Ultimate Infinity shows how transferable ReelPlay’s set up is. We’ve seen vanilla versions, in-game jackpot versions, Megaways, and now a Book of Ra edition. Is the time ripe for a host of classic slot updates? With the likes of SG Digital on board, the flood gates could be blasted wide open.

Book of Ultimate Infinity does suffer the same drawbacks as previous incarnations. Namely, the peripheries may differ, but the core gaming, the grind, is the same old, same old. Grind it can too, due to an abundance of dead spins, interspersed with the odd larger win. Often you get a long multi-reel win pile up alongside a hefty multiplier, yet are left wondering where the rest of the payout is after it’s been awarded. Another thing that feels strangely missing is Megaways, which showed up in the past to add a touch of randomness to a base game often verging on being tedious.

One nice touch is the map expanding and contracting below the reels indicating where the triggering scatter is. The fact the scatter changes position adds a bit of tension to since you never know quite where it will be. Once triggered, Book of Ultimate Infinity starts to make more sense and separate itself from the others in the range. It’s also where players have a chance of hitting the max win which has been capped at $/€250k. Again, low symbol values hold you back since stacks of chosen symbols can easily add up to not much at all.

Book of Ultimate Infinity doesn’t match the gold standards of the genre such as Book of Dead, but fans of Infinity Reels or expanding special symbols might get something out of it. All in all, SG Digital has done a good enough job of harnessing the mechanic’s capabilities with a feature not seen in them yet, making it one of the better Infinity Reels offerings in a while.

Don't Miss

If you want to explore more slots utilising the Infinity Reels mechanic we suggest to try out Relax Gaming's leprechaun themed offering titled Emerald's Infinity Reels. Alternatively, Red Tiger has a similar game engine known as InfiniReels with Dragon's Fire InfiniReels being a prime example.

Good

SG Digital does a good job of harnessing the capabilities of the Infinity Reels mechanic, resulting in a highly playable game with an interesting new twist.
