Cash Truck: Slot Overview

You know, living in a dystopian future would probably be a real nightmare. Danger lurks around every corner, there's virtually zero stability and little to anchor your sanity to. While the reality would probably suck, dystopias experienced via pop culture can be compellingly thought-provoking. From Brave New World's stratified society to contests gone deadly wrong in Squid Game, viewers can ponder the 'what ifs' from a safe distance. In Cash Truck, developer Quickspin has cooked up its own vision of a dystopic future gone awry.

Cash Truck is set in a world with limited resources and little money; presumably, crypto didn't work out the way proponents wanted it to. However, hope is kept alive by the legend of a truck full of cash winding its way through a desert landscape. As you might imagine, there are a lot of people after this truck, many armed with an arsenal of homemade weapons. Players make use of their own weapons in the form of a high-powered streak respin bonus round to potentially grab the loot.

The game hooked us straight away with a view of its 5-reel, 4 to 7 high game grid, latched to the back of a truck full of cash. A video game element is created by its first-person viewpoint as if players are sitting in a chase car as it literally scrolls through the desert on a really straight road. Monument Valley-style rock formations make up the background, mixed with sound effects and apocalyptic visuals, making Cash Truck an inviting proposal.

The goal of the base game is twofold. Ultimately, you want scatters to land to move on to the bonus round. In the meantime, thrills come by way of winning combinations triggering tumbles and the reel expansion feature. Played naturally, Cash Truck generates a return value of 96%, which rises to 96.56% or 96.83% when buying one of the two feature options. Highly volatile, the game is available on any device where stakes of 20 p/c to £/€100 may be set.

While the chase is going on in the base game, 11 pay symbols appear on the reels. These include low pay card suits worth up to 0.6x the bet, mid pay bats, blades, Jerrycans,
and three roughneck characters worth up to 0.8-2x, followed by a single high win character symbol paying 5x for five of a kind. Lastly, wilds land in any position to replace any symbol except the scatter and have the same value as the top premium when making wins of itself.

Cash Truck: Slot Features

The base game makes use of tumbling reels and increasing ways to provide thrills, though these pale in comparison by what is possible during the Truck Raider Bonus Game.

Tumbling Reels

Symbols in winning combinations are removed from the reels when they hit, allowing new ones to drop down and take their place. In addition, 3 blocked positions are uncovered from the locked area following each tumble. This process repeats until no new winning combination forms.

Second Chance

Landing 3 scatters in view is needed to trigger the bonus game, but if 2 are in view, the Second Chance feature is triggered. This device clears all symbols in the active area except the 2 scatters and drops a bunch of new symbols onto the panel in the hope of landing the third scatter.

Truck Raider Bonus Game

Once triggered or bought, the Truck Raider Bonus Game starts with 3 Cash Stack symbols in random positions and 3 spins. Landing new symbols reset the count back to 3. All new symbols that land are sticky and display bet multiplier values. When the number of spins runs out, players are awarded the sum of all current symbols multiplied by the bet. As well as regular Cash Stack symbols are a bunch of special symbols, each bringing its unique modifying ability:

  • Expander – unlocks 3 random positions from the covered part of the grid.
  • Booster – adds its value to all other symbols in the unlocked area.
  • Super Booster – adds its value to all other symbols in the unlocked area when it lands and on every following spin.
  • Grabber – adds the value of all other symbols in the unlocked area to itself.
  • Super Grabber - adds the value of all other symbols in the unlocked area to itself when it lands and on each following spin.
  • Doubler – doubles its value every time the spin counter is reset to 3.

Buy Feature

Where permitted, players have the option of buying two bonus games. One is the regular Track Raider Bonus Game for the cost of 90x the bet. The second is a Truck Raider Bonus Game with a guaranteed Doubler for 360x the bet.

Cash Truck: Slot Verdict

Cash Truck is a game that got its hooks in from the very first look, dragged us kicking into its messed up post-apocalyptic scenario, and refused to let go. From the video game styled visuals to the absorbing effects, Cash Truck provides a brilliant break from reality, making it mighty tempting to suspend disbelief and just lose yourself in its superbly constructed game world.

Bringing things back to earth for a moment, the base game can be a slog at times. Cash Truck isn't one of those slots that likes to string together long chains of consecutive tumbles. At least so it proved during testing. Every so often, it's possible to get onto a decent run, opening up the locked positions and squeezing out a decent win. Not that it particularly matters. Most players will come to see the Truck Raider Bonus Game, and this thing can go off like a Molotov Cocktail.

Yep, the Truck Raider Bonus Game is a Money Train 2 competitor, imitator, or whatever you want to call it. However, it is a riot when things are going your way, and there are innovations here to discover as well. One to look out for is the Doubler symbol. Did you know if you started with a penny and doubled for a month (31 times), you'd end up with over €20 million? Well, the Doubler isn't quite so effective, but it can quickly grow to useful levels. It's one of those simple yet effective ideas which seems obvious in hindsight, and a wonder why it hasn't been used like this in the past. The Doubler did tend to land later in the round when much of the active parts of the grid had already been filled. Not always, though, and sometimes everything came explosively together. At full blast, Cash Truck is capable of payouts as high as 25,000x the bet, which is its win cap, activating the Target Eliminated feature sequence when hit.

Despite having half the potential, Quickspin has created a pumped-up contender to take on the Money Train 2 juggernaut. Cash Truck possesses a potent mix of excellent audio-visuals, absorbing story and the sort of features that go off like Mad Max pounding on wasteland punks.
