Coconut Chaos: Slot Overview

Joining the growing legion of Hacksaw Gaming studios is Australian-based software provider Pineapple Play, with its debut slot, Coconut Chaos. Teaming up with a studio of Hacksaw Gaming's stature has got to be a positive. You've got the name of one of the hottest companies in iGaming connected with your products, and any help and expertise the studio can offer is like gold dust. On the other hand, now you've also got to stand up and deliver, and this Pineapple Play attempts to do so in a fruit slot with a seesaw act of mediocre mystery symbol features and a more intriguing two-step bonus round.

Coconut Chaos is 'Set on the sun-drenched shores of an untamed paradise island', which sounds nice, in theory, but would the reality be anywhere as good as the fantasy? What happens if you run out of basic necessities? You can't just nip down to the shops to top up. And what about a medical emergency? Supposing communications do work, it's going to take some time for rescue services to reach an untamed paradise island. Ah, well, we're not here for reality; we're here for the dream, and Coconut Chaos paints an attractive one of sun, sand, sea, and waving palm trees, while its game grid overflows with chirpy fruit.

Lashed together with bits of bamboo is Coconut Chaos' 5x4 gaming area, which uses 14 paylines to evaluate winning combinations. With a bet range of $/€0.10 to $/€100 per main game spin, Coconut Chaos is a medium volatile slot with a maximum RTP of 96.36%.

Coconut Chaos' hierarchy of pay symbols includes 10-A low pay card ranks, worth 5 times the stake for 5 OAK, and high pay fruits with smiley faces on them - bananas, kiwi fruit, mangos, watermelons, and pineapples, paying 10x to 50x the stake for 5 OAK. Just to note, Coconut Chaos does not land wild symbols on its reels.

Coconut Chaos: Slot Features

Coconut Chaos slot - Only the Juicy free spins

Mystery symbols do their mysterious reveal thing in the base game and in the Only the Juicy feature, while the other bonus game is a two-part Pineapple Payday round.

The Juicer

All mystery symbols on the reels reveal matching random symbols. In the base game, mystery symbols can reveal low or high-paying symbols. Mystery symbols do not appear in Pineapple Payday, and they cannot reveal scatters, Tokens, Coins, or Pineapple Payday symbols.

Only the Juicy Bonus Game

Hitting 3, 4, or 5 scatters awards 10, 15, or 20 free spins, respectively. All low-paying symbols and Tokens are removed, and mystery symbols only reveal high-paying symbols. It is possible to trigger extra free spins, up to 100 at the most, by landing 3, 4, or 5 scatters to win an additional 10, 15, or 20 free spins, respectively.

Pineapple Payday Bonus Game

Landing 6+ Token overlays triggers the Hold & Spin feature. Tokens turn into locked Coins and award 3 respins, resetting each time a new Coin lands. Only Coins or blanks appear until spins run out or all positions fill. Each Coin reveals a x1-x5 multiplier, which is collected. Then a Pineapple Payday reel spins to award a fruit prize worth 1x100x the bet, multiplied by the collected total.

Feature Buy

Two choices may be found at the feature buy section. They are an Only the Juicy trigger for 50x the bet or Pineapple Payday for 100x the bet.

Coconut Chaos: Slot Verdict

As far as debut releases go, Pineapple Play's Coconut Chaos does a pretty good job of introducing the new studio to the online slot scene. While possibly tempting to do so, Pineapple Play hasn't borrowed heavily from its more established partner, instead choosing to express its own stylistic and mechanical interests. Coconut Chaos, therefore, manages to carve out its own sunny little niche, blending the relaxed tropical island theme with fruit-filled gameplay moments that aren't without their charm. It's not all paradise and piña coladas, but for a first outing, there are promising signs in this beach-themed getaway.

However, a lot of Coconut Chaos is pretty standard fare, as well. Mostly the base game and the Only the Juicer bonus round, where mystery symbols are about as exciting as it gets. They're not particularly creative mystery symbols either, as they simply reveal a pay symbol, though in free spins, they only reveal high-paying symbols, on account of low pays being removed from the reels. Fine enough, but far from must-see viewing. The second bonus round is more interesting, and here is where Pineapple Play injects a twist of originality. Pineapple Payday might not make complete sense till you've seen it in action, partly on account of Coins not awarding cash prizes as they usually do in a regular hold 'n' win environment. Instead, they build a multiplier which is applied to the guaranteed win from the stage two Pineapple Payday reel. The good thing about this bonus is that players know they are going to win something. The suspense is built by wondering how chunky the multiplier is going to be, and what fruit symbol will create the final win. Cross fingers for the pineapple symbol since it is worth way more than the others, and might be critical for chasing down the game's 10,000x max win.

On an additional note, the game can feel a bit slow-paced, as count-ups can't be skipped and watching every winning line play out can get frustrating. Moreover, despite the attractive game world and the friendly fruits, without the Pineapple Payday bonus round, Coconut Chaos might have floundered, bogged down by a mediocre mystery symbol mechanic. And while it might not be an earth-shattering debut, there are splashes of originality to be found in Coconut Chaos' island cocktail.

Bigwinboard Summary

Coconut Chaos serves up a sunny, fruit-filled debut with a few clever ideas and laid-back charm, though its slow pace and simple features keep it from truly making waves.
