Croco Clover: Slot Overview
Gators might have been getting some love recently thanks to the trigger pullin' going on over at Nolimit City HQ, but not so much their scaly cousins, the crocodile. Rival developer Hacksaw Gaming seeks to rectify this with the release of Croco Clover, a retro-inspired slot which swaps the studio's usual visual polish for a swamp-themed setting filled with crocs, clovers, and jackpot prizes. This isn't a slot that is going toe to toe with Gator Hunters, though, as its modest winning potential, average looks, and unimaginative gameplay have the power to attract a very different kind of gambler. To find out if this is you, or not, read on to see how its swampy features stack up.
Ugh was the first reaction to Croco Clover's appearance. Don't want to judge a slot solely on its looks, but graphics can play a huge part in a game's enjoyment, and this just is not your typical Hacksaw Gaming eye massage. Then again, there is precedent, and the guess is that Croco Clover came from the same team that produced the equally ocularly-unusual release The Jade Path Hold & Win. Where one would be a fluke, it now seems the studio has picked a section of the market it was previously largely absent from and has set about building a presence. The two games have a retro spirit to them, jackpot prizes line the top of the grid, they just look old. Given that Hacksaw Gaming has produced a number of attractive slots in the past, this approach is surely deliberate, and fair dues, the studio knows a thing or two about dominating in the iGaming space.

On the technical side, Croco Clover's action occurs on a 5x4 gaming grid, with 17 paylines. Hacksaw Gaming has designed a slot that suits a medium volatile preference, and of the four RTPs, 96.34% is the preferred value. The stake range is wide, where the minimum option is $/€0.10, going up to a maximum of $/€400.
Turning our attention to the pay table, we find 10-A royals on the low side, then dragonflies, crayfish, frogs, beavers, and fish on the high. A winning line of 5 matching royals is worth 1x the bet., while lines of matching premium symbols pay 3x to 10x for 5 OAK.
Croco Clover: Slot Features

Croco Clover's extras are its Wild Croco Multipliers, Jackpot Clover symbols, Snap Zone bonus, Swamp King bonus, and feature buys.
Wild Croco Multipliers
The Wild Croco Multiplier symbol substitutes for all symbols in the paytable. The symbol's multiplier value of x1, x2, x3, x4, x5, x10, or x25 is applied to all wins that the symbol is part of. If a win has more than one Wild Croco Multiplier, the multiplier values are added together before being applied. Five wilds in a winning combination pay 10x the bet.
Jackpot Clover Symbols
When 3 Jackpot Clover symbols land on the same spin, they activate before regular wins, and one of the five jackpot prizes is awarded as a multiple of the bet. There is the 5x Mini, 25x Minor, 250x Major, 500x Mega, and the 2,500x Grand.
Snap Zone Bonus Game
The Snap Zone bonus and 8 free spins are awarded by landing 3 scatter symbols in the base game. This bonus uses the base game's mechanics, plus it has a higher chance of landing Wild Croco Multipliers. Also, Wild Croco Multipliers are sticky, so they keep the same grid position as they landed in throughout the bonus. Sticky Wild Croco Multipliers increase by x1 before every subsequent free spin. Landing 2 or 3 scatters awards +2 or +4 free spins in this feature and the next.
Swamp King Bonus Game
Swamp King and 10 free spins are awarded by landing 4 scatters in the main game. This round keeps the mechanics of Snap Zone, but has a higher chance of landing Jackpot Clover symbols. All Sticky Wild Croco Multipliers increase by x2 before every subsequent free spin.
Feature Buys
BonusHunt FeatureSpins make each spin 3 times more likely to trigger a bonus game at a cost of 2x bet. JackpotHunt FeatureSpins make each spin 5 times more likely to award a jackpot prize for 3x, and Jaw-Dropping FeatureSpins cost 50x to guarantee at least 4 Wild Croco Multipliers land. Players may buy the Snap Zone for 60x or the Swamp King round for 200x the bet.

Croco Clover: Slot Verdict
Croco Clover is a rather unappealing departure from the usual standards of Hacksaw Gaming, a studio which has delivered visually impressive and technically memorable slots in the past. Its swampy world and retro vibe did little to make a convincing first impression, and little which occurred later on managed to readjust that notion. It just looks out of character, and it's a noticeable step backwards for such a forward-thinking studio. Then again, the studio might not be as forward-thinking as it once was, seemingly now increasingly concerned with reaching a hand into all areas of online slot gambling. Rather than blaze a trail and force others to catch up, though Hacksaw still does that from time to time, there's a growing sense of a software provider looking to squeeze some action from as many different areas as it possibly can.
Rant out of the way, and onto some of the good things Croco Clover does. Its on-screen crocodile character is quite lifelike, which is something, and the background imagery might have been nice, if it wasn't so blurry. Its free spins feature lands sticky wild multipliers that grow in value on each spin, which might turn out to be fun, though ultimate thrills are held in check by a 2,500x the bet max win, equal to collecting the Grand prize. It's not enormous potential, amplifying the general low-thrill, low-energy malaise Croco Clover can find itself mired in. There is room for all sorts of gambling preferences and niches, but even so, expectations will have to be pretty low to be impressed by Croco Clover.
Hacksaw Gaming may very well have pinpointed a niche of gamblers that are pulled towards games like Croco Clover and The Jade Path, but anyone even a millimetre outside this narrow scope is unlikely to be impressed. That goes double for gamblers who have tracked the studio's more groundbreaking output over the years, in which case Croco Clover sticks out like a very unusual thumb, and it's hard to shake the feeling Hacksaw Gaming is capable of so much more than this.
Croco Clover feels like a step backwards for Hacksaw Gaming, with uninspired gameplay, rough visuals, and limited winning potential.
