Disco Danny

Slot Review (NetEnt)

Disco Danny is a dance hall themed fruit slot that doesn’t jive quite as hard as it would like.

  • Simple 3×3, 5-payline styled gameplay.

  • Collect prizes during a five-tier free spins feature using increasing multipliers.

Disco Danny: Overview

Get jiggy on the dance floor in developer NetEnt‘s nightclub infused slot Disco Danny. The theme might be novel, as are images of Danny bopping to a beat; however, the rest of the game is anything but original.

Titled “Disco Monkey” during the production phase, the game was subsequently rebranded and released as Disco Danny – why, is anyone’s guess. Not only that. Disco Danny is also a clone of NetEnt’s football-themed slot Super Striker. Same features, same math model, the only difference is the scenery and the exclusion of the optional Bet Slip feature. The rest remains the same, so let’s get our roller skates, and more importantly, our groove on.

The gameplay might have stalled, but the looks have moved on since Super Striker. Disco Danny’s look is simpler in some ways, but still manages to make a bigger, brighter statement. Even if you’ve only seen screenshots, there are no second guesses to the soundtrack. You got it, a funky disco beat. There are some house vibes there, but Disco Danny’s music leans hard on the 1970s and is all the better for it.

Boogieing takes place on a 3×3 game area with 5 paylines, offering stakes from 10 p/c to £/€250. This is classic/basic fruit slot gaming where only three of a kind combos are possible. The math model remains more or less the same as Super Striker, which means an RTP of 96.04% and high volatility. The hit rate was not available back when we reviewed Super Striker, but it is now. Coming in at only 14.01%, expect significant patches of dead spins while waiting for something interesting to happen. Although the bonus frequency is around 1 in 250 spins, at one point we had to wait over 900 spins for it to drop.

On the paytable, you’ll find single bars, double bars, triple bars, sevens, roller skates, Disco Danny with black shades, and Danny dressed as Elvis. One point about symbols is that mixed combinations of any bar symbols pay a consolation prize of 0.6x – the lowest on the paytable. At the other end of the spectrum is the disco king who is worth 100 times the stake for a line, or 500x for a full screen. As before there are no wild symbols pulling in combos, so it is up to scatters to unlock the game’s full potential.

Disco Danny: Features

Disco Danny – free spins

There might not be a Bet Slip option, but the rest of the features remain the same, which means free spins and two scatters. It wouldn’t be a real party without a disco ball rocking at the centre scattering light everywhere.

Disco Danny has things covered in this regard since there are two types of scatters – a silver disco ball and a golden one. A golden disco ball landing anywhere on the reels awards a random cash prize. These little sweeteners appear at any time to mix up the base game.

Golden balls also help unlock the free spins feature. If a golden ball lands at the same time as two silver balls, or three silver balls land on their own, then free spins are awarded. The feature starts with 3 spins and only golden balls may appear. Each golden ball which lands brings with it a multiplier of 1x to 50x, and resets spins back to 3. If no disco balls appear within 3 spins, the feature ends.

The free spins feature has 5 different levels and each level has a multiplier increasing through x1, x2, x3, x5, or x10, respectively. If golden balls fill the screen, all of their values are added together and multiplied by the level multiplier. Then players move to the next level. Get the feature on a good roll, and it is possible to build some substantial totals.

Disco Danny: Verdict

So is Disco Danny an enjoyable 70s groove on the reels? Yes and no. The atmosphere is okay, though the visuals are pretty simple for a NetEnt slot. The vibe is built mainly through a right on soundtrack and a Sesame Street font logo which helps brings da funk.

If basic 3×3 gaming is your thing, then yeah, Disco Danny might help scratch the itch. Otherwise, it may be too basic for others. Like the football version, the game can go from nothing to something thanks to an elusive bonus game. It’ll need a good push, but free spins can build up thanks to an abundance of multipliers. However, the biggest win observed during NetEnt’s simulation of 395 billion spins was somewhere between 1,333x-3,333x. Disco Danny has its moments, but it ends up being more jive turkey than Saturday Night Fever.
