Dragonfire Chamber of Gold Hold&Win: Slot Overview

Time for swords and sandals, players, as we take on one of the most powerful creatures in any mythology – dragons. This time the scaly beasts have brought a bit of grandeur to iSoftBet's busy range of Hold&Win slots. The game in question is titled Dragonfire Chamber of Gold and adds one or two tricks to its streak respin bonus round while doing some nifty stuff with wild symbols in the base game.

Dragonfire Chamber of Gold could have gone one of two ways. iSoftBet has added it to their Hold&Win collection, but it could have easily slotted into the Twisted Tales series if the studio had incorporated a few familiar faces. Dragonfire contains only custom-made characters, though, so the heroes and villains found in the game have a generic, homemade look to them. Not in a bad way at all, though, and as far as Hold&Win slots go, Dragonfire is one of the above-average ones. It's got a bit of thematic depth, decent graphics, and the soundtrack is especially uplifting, even a little chilling at times.

The action occurs on a 5-reel, 5-row game panel, with 50 paylines for landing winning combinations of three to five of a kind across. It does this in a highly volatile way, splitting the action between a wild encrusted base game and a dragon egg money symbol bonus round. When suiting up for the adventure, players pick bets of 25 p/c to $/€25 per spin, and the dungeon questing has been made possible on any device.

Checking out the paytable uncovers 10 regular pay symbols, split between low pay royals and higher value characters. Low pays award payouts of 2 to 4 times the stake for five of a kind, while the diverse character list is worth 6 to 40 times the bet for landing five on a payline. Wilds lend themselves to much of Dragonfire's thrilling sequences, where their basic function is replacing normal pay symbols to help complete winning lines. The rest of what wilds can do is covered next.

Wild symbols in Dragonfire Chamber of Gold aren't just wilds. Here they are known as Splitting Wilds. This is because when a wild symbol hits, it splits into two and triggers a respin. For the respin, one wild copy is placed one reel to the left; the other is placed one reel to the right. If a win occurs on the respin, any wilds involved in it move to an adjacent reel, and another respin is triggered. Wilds can also get win multipliers which increase by +1 each time they spread to a new reel. Alternatively, if a wild symbol lands on reels 2 and 4, a respin is awarded. For this respin, reel 3 turns completely wild, and the original wilds are moved to reels 1 and 5.

Respins Feature

One more important symbol in Dragonfire Chamber of Gold is the dragon egg scatter. Landing at least 5 of these symbols in the base game triggers the Hold&Win bonus round. As per usual, the triggering scatters symbols lock in place, and 3 spins are awarded. The bonus is played on a game panel where regular symbols have been removed. Now, whenever new dragon eggs land during the feature, they lock in place, reveal a cash prize and return the spin count back to 3. Should dragon eggs land on three consecutive spins, one of the gates next to the grid opens. When the gate on the right opens, all dragon egg values in view are collected, and dragon eggs are removed from the reels. This provides more space to land new ones.

If the left gate opens, three multiplier frames are added to the grid. Multiplier frames move to random positions between spins, and if an egg lands in one or a frame lands on an egg, its value is multiplied. After a frame has been used to boost a win, it is removed from the reels. Frames remaining on the reels have their multiplier increased by +1 on each spin until they are used to increase a scatter symbol's value.

Bonus Buy

If the Bonus Buy button is present, players can buy a respins bonus round for 100x the bet or a free spins bonus round with multiplier frames active for 250x the bet.

Dragonfire Chamber of Gold Hold&Win: Slot Verdict

If there are two things that pop out at regular intervals from iSoftBet, it's dragons and Hold&Win features. It stands to reason the two elements would crash headlong into each other sooner or later. iSoftBet usually uses dragons in an Asian setting, with the exception of slots like Dragon Stone, so seeing them in a fantasy game makes for a nice change. On the subject of theme, iSoftBet has done quite a nice job. The graphics are good, the soundtrack borders on the sublime, and the action cuts nicely between the base game hall and bonus round dungeon. In short, fantasy players should be pleased with what they find.

Dragonfire's features are fairly strong for a Hold&Win slot as well. Especially the base game, where the splitting, walking, multiplying wild respins are there to mix things up. It was a little surprising to find such a developed secondary feature in a Hold&Win game, actually. Usually, it's something like random wilds or a one-off win multiplier, not something so fully developed. Maybe we're making more out of the respin feature than it is, but it's a welcome accompaniment.

On the other hand, the Hold&Win bonus round is pretty regular stuff, though it has a couple of extras chucked on top. The extras aren't part of some massive streak respin revolution, but they're something for hold and win experts to have a look over. Multipliers are one of the quickest ways of augmenting win values in a lot of games, but it was interesting to see how often multiplier frames stubbornly moved to empty positions during the playthrough. Not always. Sometimes they could be useful, just an observation.

With all the experience iSoftBet has gained from making these sorts of games, it would be nice to see them channel their expertise into making one mammoth Hold&Win game. For now, they seem content with the quantity over premium quality approach, slinging out playable if slightly forgettable Hold&Win styled slots.

All in all, Dragonfire Chamber of Gold makes an ok impression without doing anything exceptional to revolutionise the series.
