Dynamite Riches Megaways: Slot Overview
Since Red Tiger acquired a Megaways license from Big Time Gaming, the developer seems more content remaking older games than pushing the boundaries of what the engine is capable of. So it is with Dynamite Riches Megaways, a redo of 2019's Dynamite Riches, a mining themed slot with a quartet of modifiers users had to unlock as they played. Dynamite Riches Megaways keeps this progress feature, as well as the Gold Spins bonus round. Red Tiger has added a new progressive multiplier to free spins for the remake, though strangely, the two games produce almost the same set of numbers.
Another thing about the two games that has practically stayed the same is the graphics and location. As before, players find themselves in a mining pit while gold stuff glints right there on the rock walls. Naturally, the grid layout has changed. This time, the action occurs on a 6-reel Megaways powered game panel with each spin dropping 2-7 symbols onto individual reels giving players up to 117,649 ways to win. On top of the grid sits the feature progress tracker, giving players something to shoot for, while a banjo led honky-tonk track brightens up the airwaves.
Playable on any device, Dynamite Riches Megaways' math model interestingly generates the same numbers as the original version. For RTP, this means a default theoretical value of 95.7% and volatility rated as medium. Max win is also bang on the same at around 7,000 times the bet, as are stakes, which vary from 10 p/c to £/€20 per spin.
With all those extra ways available, it's no surprise to see combination values have been decreased. Premium symbols include lanterns, spades/picks, safety helmets, bags of gold and the prospector chap. Landing a six of a kind win way of these higher value symbols is worth a payout of 1.2 to 2 times the stake. At the lower end of the paytable, clubs, diamonds, hearts, and spades have been used. As before, three wild symbol types land on the reels at various points. Sticks of dynamites are the regular wild, while gold bar wilds and diamond wilds are triggered by two of the features covered below. In all instances, wilds replace any of the pay symbols to complete winning ways.
Dynamite Riches Megaways: Slot Features
Dynamite Wild symbols are needed to unlock 4 of the bonus features. Whenever a wild symbol hits, whether it is used in a win or not, it gets collected in the Feature Unlock Progress Bar located above the reels. Each of the 4 features is unlocked in a specific order. There are 60 dynamites in total, and they stop appearing after the final feature has been unlocked.
The Feature Unlock Progress Bar is split into four sections, each one corresponding to a modifier. Whenever a dynamite wild lands, it partly fills one of the sections, which takes 15 wilds to completely fill. When this happens, the applicable feature triggers on the next spin and then on random spins from then on. The 4 features are:
- 15 collected wilds unlock the TNT feature. When triggered, all low paying symbols are removed from the reels for the current spin. If free spins trigger from this spin, low pays will return to the reels for the bonus round.
- 30 collected wilds unlock Golden Wilds. When triggered, up to 10 golden wild symbols land on the middle four reels.
- 45 gathered dynamite wilds unlocks a Multiplier. When triggered, a compass appears and spins to reveal a value of x2, x3, x5, or x10. The awarded multiplier is held until it is applied to the next win. If the multiplier feature triggers before the next win, the multiplier values are stacked up to a maximum of x20. If players win free spins with an active compass multiplier, it carries over to the bonus.
- Gathering all 60 dynamite wilds unlocks the Mega Wild feature. When this one triggers, up to 4 Mega Wild symbols land on the middle four reels. Mega Wilds cover the entire reel and have a multiplier of x2-x7 applied to all applicable wins.
Gold Spins scatters land in any reel, and 3, 4, 5, or 6 in view award 8, 10, 12, or 14 free spins, respectively. Each win during Gold Spins increases a growing win multiplier up to 20x that applies to all win ways. Landing 3 scatters in the feature retriggers +4 more spins, +1 spin for each extra scatter. When the bonus round ends, the multiplier resets.
Dynamite Riches Megaways: Slot Verdict
If you haven't played the first Dynamite Riches slot, then Dynamite Riches Megaways might seem more impressive. The reason why is that there hasn't been a revolution in the interim. Megaways is a lot more exciting than the first one's 20 fixed betways, there is a growing win multiplier in free spins, and Mega Wilds are now the full reel multipliers which appeared in Kulta Jaska Megaways.
Actually, when you put it that way, it does seem like quite a lot has changed. The strange thing is when you're up to your neck in the mining themed gaming, less seems to separate the two games in practice. The initial task remains the same - unlock all four features to gain their benefits. This sort of system has popped up in a number of Red Tiger slots now and won't be for everyone. In some ways, it's kind of fun, unlocking them one by one; in others, the system locks you into playing. You feel like you have to commit to a session rather than dip in and out. As an indication of how much time you'll need to put in, it took around 150 spins or so to unlock features during testing.
What makes the upgrade feel so samey is the max win has remained unchanged. Not saying all remakes have to have greater potential, yet all of the extra multiplying going on seems a little pointless if it can't do anything the original couldn't already achieve. At 5,341x the stake, it's also quite low for Megaways in general and unlikely to get the hardcore gamers frothing.
With all said and done, Dynamite Riches Megaways did turn out to be a phenomenal game in the end. The changes shake up the gameplay although they would have benefited from more enticing potential to make better use of them. You don't see feature collections like this in Megaways often, so there's that for completists to experience. Otherwise, Dynamite Riches Megaways is a great follow up which nevertheless could've offered a bit more.
Dynamite Riches might have the pulling power of ‘Megaways’ in the title now but somehow the rest doesn’t seem to have changed much.
