Eternal Diamonds: Slot Overview

The three-pot slot production line continues to chug along, powered in this case by Pragmatic Play, in the online slot Eternal Diamonds. Hard to believe how niche this type of release was once, before three pots broke into the mainstream with every other casino game maker and its cat seeming to have a go. In this instance, Eternal Diamonds mixes retro design with one of the shiniest representations of Las Vegas to grace a monitor. On the gaming side, the up to three simultaneous modifiers are not the sort of effects that are likely to blow the three-pot genre to a brand new paradigm, but winning potential is on the ample side, so they clearly possess potency. And so, feel free to join us as we work out how much substance the studio has managed to stuff in behind the sparkle.

As mentioned, Pragmatic Play has situated Eternal Diamonds in one of gambling's heartlands, Las Vegas, Nevada, Sin City, what stays in Vegas stays in Vegas and all that. The studio has gone big on the glitz and glam, lining both sides of the screen with a bunch of the city's landmarks - the Eiffel Tower replica, the Statue of Liberty replica, and so on. Also present throughout the game is a blonde, leggy character, holding an enormous diamond in her hand, letting out weird noises from time to time. She changes dresses to a golden number for the free spins round, held by an indoor pool in a fancy hotel. Eternal Diamonds offers a mix of classic slot elements, encased in an interpretation of Vegas that Pragmatic Play has drenched in glitter and grandeur.

Eternal Diamonds slot
Eternal Diamonds slot - base game

Eternal Diamonds is a medium volatile slot played on a 5x3 reel set. It forms winning combinations when 3 or more matching symbols land from the leftmost side of the grid, along its 50 paylines. The theoretical RTP is 96.5%, on the highest of the three possible configurations, and players may stake $/€0.20 to $/€240.

The pay symbols are retro classics, made up of 10-A royals, double Bars, cherries, horseshoes, bells, and sevens. Landing 5 matching royals pays 1.25x the stake, or landing 5 matching high-pay symbols awards 2x-3.75x the bet. Wilds substitute for all symbols except Money symbols or Chips, and they are present on every reel except the leftmost reel.

Eternal Diamonds: Slot Featuresb

Eternal Diamonds slot - respins feature

Three types of Chip symbols can land in the base game: Blue, Red, and Green. When Chips land, they are collected by the Blue, Red, and Green pots above the reels. When this happens, there is a chance the respin feature triggers with 1-3 modifiers. Blue Chips are linked to Multipliers, Red Chips are connected to the Expanding modifier, and Green is linked to the Extra Spin.

Respin Feature

When the respin feature triggers, it is played on a grid which only lands Chip symbols, Money symbols, and blanks. Chips and Money symbols appear with values of 0.2x-125x the stake. Three respins are awarded, and Money symbols are sticky till the round ends. Each time a Money symbol or Chip symbol lands, the number of respins resets to 3. When activated, the three modifiers act like so when active:

  • Multiplier - Random multipliers of x2-x100 are added to positions on the grid. Multipliers are applied to the value of Money or Chip symbols in their position at the end of the feature.
  • Expanding - Landed Red Chips have their final value determined at the end of the round by a special respin on a 2x2 grid, landing blanks or Money symbols. If the 2x2 grid is filled, it increases to a 3x3 grid for another respin, repeating in this way to 4x4, then 5x5. If all 25 positions are filled, the 125x Major award is added to the total win. The total amount of the Money symbols from the special respin feature is added together to become the Red Chip value.
  • Extra Spin - The round starts with and is reset to 3 respins plus 1 respin for each Green Chip that triggered the feature in the base game.

Chips that hit during the feature are collected by their pots above the reels. When collected, at random, the associated modifiers that are not active may become active for the rest of the round. The feature ends when respins run out, or the grid is filled. The total value of all symbols on the reels is paid out, and if the grid is full, the 2,000x Grand is awarded.

Feature Buy

The respin feature can be bought from the base game for 50x, 150x, or 250x, triggering the round with 1, 2, or 3 features active, respectively.

Eternal Diamonds: Slot Verdict

Few developers have taken to the three-pot concept quite as enthusiastically as Pragmatic Play. The studio has a number of these sorts of slots under its belt, from Treasures of Osiris to Triple Pot Plinko Hercules, and shows no signs of relinquishing its grip on its believed pots any time soon. Eternal Diamonds is a pretty conventional example of this type of game, which follows a well-established format. The visual appeal is quite high; if spinning reels in a virtual Vegas in the company of a glamorous lady sounds neat, and the 20,000x the bet win cap is a big one. But there is a case to be made that Eternal Diamonds is guilty of style over substance, since the jazzy skin coats a set of fairly average gaming ideas.

While the base game flits between scatter teases and landing wins along a large number of paylines, it's the bonus round that is able to evoke the greatest thrills. As always in games like this, each modifier has its advantages, but the more modifiers which trigger simultaneously with the respins feature, the more advantageous. The Green Chip triggers extra respins, but rather than add just one, it adds one respin for each triggering Chip, which is a nice touch. Multipliers are always good to have on hand, and the Red Chip triggered grid within a grid sequence builds on the Money Egg concept seen in Sleeping Dragon Ultra Dark, by getting bigger and bigger as it gets filled.

Add it all together, and you've got a three-pot slot which ticks some of the right boxes but lacks the daring or desire to really push boundaries and be scandalous. Instead of scaring away prospective gamblers with staggering new ways of thinking, it polishes its retro Vegas skin to a gleam then fills in the blanks with three capable if not overly exciting modifiers. There is no doubt Eternal Diamonds has the ability to deliver shots of adrenaline when its parts converge, though it's also hard to escape the feeling it is a middling release. That said, for the gamblers this is aimed at, the formula should prove a comfortable fit.

Bigwinboard Summary

Eternal Diamonds is a glossy slot that ticks some of the right three-pot boxes, but lacks any genuinely exciting new ideas.
