Forge of Fortunes: Slot Overview

Ever been flicking through the cluster of streaming services such as Netflix, Prime Video, or Disney+, et al. and felt so overwhelmed by the options you felt the urge to flee to the nearest windmill and read a book in peace? No? Oh well, in a similar spirit of simplification, if you've ever wanted an escape from the pay ways arms race to play an uncomplicated online slot, then you might be interested in Forge of Fortunes from software provider Play'n GO. Forge of Fortune is based around a Forging Re-spins feature that snowballs into larger cash prizes with each consecutive respin while delivering simple, pacey gaming. Going against the grain and getting all unconventional can be risky business, but grab your hammer and tongs if you're interested to see if Forge of Fortunes works.

Technically, Forge of Fortunes could be classed as a mining-themed slot, but it's far away from the way mining slots are typically presented. There is no bearded prospecting adding chuckles, no dynamite, and little in the way of the actual mining process, really. Instead, the theme is represented by gold nuggets, slag, coal, and moulds, where melted gold is poured. In some ways, Forge of Fortunes is closer to a production line where the rich stuff is processed rather than extracted. However, the action is still set in a heavy-duty environment, ideal for pounding out some wins (if you're lucky).

One of the first things you're likely to notice about Forge of Fortunes is that it is played on just 1 row of 3 symbol positions. In these positions, only three types of symbols can ever appear – gold nuggets, coal, or slag. Medium to high volatile, players pick a bet of 10 p/c to $/€100 before getting on with the task of landing gold nuggets. Hitting 2 of them on reels 1 and 2 pays 1x the bet, whereas hitting a full line of three gold nuggets triggers the respin feature, covered next.

Forge of Fortunes: Slot Features

In the main game, landing 3 golden nugget symbols on the row activates the Forging Re-spins feature. Instead of winning a set number of respins, a respin is continually awarded as long as 3 gold nuggets land in view. As consecutive respins hit, the total prize value increases as well. Payouts start at 2x the bet then rise through 3x, 5x, 8x, 10x, 15x, 20x, 30x, 50x, 75x, 100x, 200x, 500x, 1,000x, and maxing out at 2,500x the bet for the respective number of consecutive winning respins.

There are a couple of things to look out for. One is that whenever a slag symbol hits, respins come to an end, and the achieved prize level up till then is awarded. Secondly, a coal symbol may land as well. If coal lands, then players move back one tier on the prize ladder, but the respin feature continues on.

Forge of Fortunes: Slot Verdict

In a world where progress often means bigger, more complex, and more overwhelming, it is quite refreshing to see someone go in the opposite direction and do something that is, for want of a better word, underwhelming. Forge of Fortunes' brief list of components is almost shocking in this day and age. Having just three symbols, one row, and one payline is about as uncluttered as it gets. Playing Forge of Fortunes brought to mind a relatively recent release titled Viral Spiral, another pared-back slot from Red Tiger, so if you're into the simplicity of it all, that one might be worth checking out as well.

There's not a lot to it, yet for the most part, Forge of Fortunes provided a surprisingly entertaining time. Play'n GO has instilled the slot with a solid replayability factor, making it easy to bang away on the spin button. How have they done so? During testing, Forge of Fortunes felt quite well balanced between dead spins and wins. This is important in a slot with such binary outcomes - when you press the play button, you either get 2 or 3 golden nuggets in the required position, and something happens, or nothing does. You could say this in most, if not all slots, yet the outcomes could be starker in a game with so few bells and whistles. It also helps that the developers have squeezed a lot out of the visuals while meshing the theme with the Forging Re-spins feature. A decent number of respin triggers occurred during our sessions to charge off on, though, for us, they didn't run too far, the slag symbol dropping in to slam the brakes on. The 2,500x max win isn't exactly huge either. However, when keeping in mind everything else Forge of Fortunes has going on, it's a relatively lofty target.

For a mining-themed game that is as straightforward to play as it is weighty in feel, Forge of Fortunes is a potential option - like a rock in a mine shaft, ready to be pounded around a bit. Whether the results turn out to be metaphorical fool's gold or the real deal depends on how those Forging Re-spins turn out. It's hard to envisage Forge of Fortunes having a massive shelf life, but its one-line antics can be fun while they last.
