Not even a massive amount of luck can save Fortunium.
Mystery Symbols and Win Booster.
€100,000 win cap.
Fortunium was announced earlier this year during the ICE conference in London with Microgaming making quite a fuzz about it. Turns out however it's not actually a Microgaming production, but the works of a company called Stormcraft Studios. Now, curious as we are we tried to find some information about this mysterious studio - something that turned out to be easier said than done.
In any case, Fortunium is a 5-reel, 5-row game with 40 paylines that can be played from €0.10 to €125. Just like NetEnt's Steam Tower, this slot has a steampunk theme, and centers around two characters - Victoria the explorer and Maximillian the inventor (not that anyone will care).
The game includes 5 high paying symbols and 4 low value symbols. The low symbols are represented by hearts, spades, clubs and diamonds while the premiums are represented by Victoria symbols, Maximilian symbols, chests, zeppelins and nerf guns. The two top paying symbols are stacked full reels high and both pays 8x for 5 of a kind.
The wild symbol does what wild symbols do and are worth 20x for 5 across a payline. The Scatter symbol comes in the form of a green glass sphere and returns 100x in case you would manage to land 5 of them.
Fortunium Mystery Symbols & Win Booster Features
The Mystery symbols feature activates when Mystery symbols (question marks) lands on the reels. It will then reveal a randomly chosen symbol which can be any symbo except the Scatter. To the left of the reelset is the Win Booster button. Press this one and all low value symbols will be filtered when the Mystery feature activates which means only premiums and wilds will trigger. This feature costs a 50% increase in your bet size (€1 bet turns to €1.50).
Fortunium Free Spins
The free spins game comes into play when 3 or more scatters land anywhere across the reels and awards 10 free spins. Every scatter that land during the bonus will award an additional free spin. Further - 3, 4 or 5 scatters will give the player 1, 2 or 3 Mystery reels on each spin respectively. The Mystery reels contain premiums and wilds only which means you can get 3 full wild reels on every spin.
Fortunium is a low to medium variance slot with quite low potential. A full screen of wilds pays only 800x but on the other hand it doesn't appear to be impossible to do. The game advertises a max win of €100,000 which with a max bet of €125 adds up to 800x, so it's possible this is the most you can win during a bonus round. If not you could in theory land 10 full screen of wilds during the free spins which would pay 8000x but our guess is that it's capped at 800x. Maybe Microgaming could clarify.
Fortunium is not totally useless but not a hit either. We're struggling a bit to understand why Microgaming's been promoting this as aggressively as they have, but then again, if it does have a 8000x potential, or even half of that, then it certainly would be worth giving a few spins.
