Fruity Wild Bonanza: Slot Overview

It wasn't long ago that developer Stakelogic was slinging out sweeties to the masses in Candy Wild Bonanza. It must have been well received since the studio has now remade the game using healthier icons in a slot given the title Fruity Wild Bonanza. Stakelogic may have swapped out candy for fruit, but if you liked the previous slot, don't worry; despite the change of food group, the studio has left the mechanics and gameplay more or less the same.

One thing the two slots have in common is a cheerful disposition. Fruity Wild Bonanza might not be an explosion of candied colour, but it's held in a laxed rural location where clouds drift across the sky above a green apple-like house, all cut grass and white picket fence. The soundtrack completes the jovial scene, sounding like a remix of the song 'Popcorn', originally released as 'Pop Corn' in 1969 by Gershon Kingsley and remixed or reused countless times ever since. The track in Fruity Wild Bonanza isn't the exact same as such, yet the jolly spirit of the classic tune is there, infusing the visuals with extra bounce.

Fruity Wild Bonanza is played on a game grid consisting of 6 columns holding 6 symbols each and uses a scatter pay mechanic. As long as at least 8 or more matching pay symbols are in view, a monetary award follows. Once the prize money has been paid, the winning symbols are removed from the board, and symbols left on the reels drop down to plug the gaps. If this causes another scatter win to happen, the cascade process triggers again. This all takes place in a highly volatile manner, leading to a maximum RTP of 95.73%, though lower models are available. As well as deciding which stake to pick, from 20 p/c to $/€20, take a moment to decide whether to engage the Super Stake. Doing so doubles the bet to allow multiplier symbols to appear in the base game and increase the chance of activating the Hold and Spin Game.

You won't find any teeth-threatening items on the paytable, but there are plenty of classic slot icons. From the lowest value tokens to the highest, we find lemons, oranges, plums, grapes, watermelons, strawberries, sevens, stars, and crowns. A baseline 8-9 symbol win pays 0.25 to 10 times the stake, whereas hitting a 12+ sized cluster is worth 2-50x the bet. Lastly, Fruity Wild Bonanza does not make use of wild symbols at any stage of the game.

Fruity Wild Bonanza: Slot Features

What features remain to go over are Multiplier Symbols, the Hold and Spin Game, and where available, the bonus buy feature.

Multipliers Symbols

Just to reiterate, Multipliers Symbols only land in the base game when the Super Stake is active. When Multiplier Symbols hit, they come with values of x2, x3, x4, x5, x6, x8, x10, x12, x15, x20, x25, x50, or x100, which is applied to the total win. If more than one Multiplier Symbol is in view, the values are added together before being used.

Hold and Spin Game

Getting 3, 4, 5, or 6 blender scatter symbols in view triggers the Hold and Spin Game. The game is played on a 6x6 grid where regular pay symbols do not land. It starts with 3 spins, and 3-6 Prize symbols are added to the board. The number of starting Prize Symbols is equal to the number of triggering scatters. Now, every time a new symbol hits, the respin count returns to three, and the round ends when spins drop to zero, or all positions are filled. The symbols which may appear are these:

  • Prize Symbols – reveal a cash prize value.
  • Multiplier Symbols – reveal a multiplier of x2, x3, x5, or x10, which is applied to each symbol except the Collector.
  • Collector Symbols – adds the values of all symbols in view except the Mini, Minor, or Major Prizes to itself. Any new Prize Symbols that land on following spins add their values to the Collector as well.
  • Mini Prize – pays 30x the bet.
  • Minor Prize – pays 100x the bet.
  • Major Prize – pays 500x the bet.

If the whole screen ends up being filled with symbols, an additional 1,000x the bet Grand Prize is paid out on top of all the other winnings.

Buy Feature

If it's there, tapping the Buy Bonus button provides five ways of buying the Hold & Spin Game. The first four choices cost 100x, 200x, 300x, or 400x for a 3, 4, 5, or 6 scatter trigger, respectively. The fifth option is a random 3-6 scatter trigger, costing 250x the bet.

Fruity Wild Bonanza: Slot Verdict

Needless to say, those who fell for the pleasantly uncomplicated style of action found in Candy Wild Bonanza should easily fall for the charms of Fruity Wild Bonanza as well. It's got the same unassuming quality of the original, meaning it's easy to sit back and enjoy the view while linking fruit or other classic icons across the board. Well, not linking, but waiting for the right numbers of symbols to hit to trigger scatter wins and the cascading effect which follows. Is it worth stumping up for the Super Stake to drop Multiplier Symbols into the base game mix? Totally players' preference on that one since it may or may not pay off, and many players may be more focused on triggering the Hold and Spin Game anyway.

Like the rest of Fruity Wild Bonanza, the Hold & Spin Game is pleasantly uncomplicated as well. It's a pacy round of attempting to hit Prize Symbols (or the Mini, Minor, or Major Symbols), with hopefully a Collector or Multiplier in there to bump things up. During testing, Multiplier Symbols hit from time to time, but Collectors were noticeably rarer. Due to the relative simplicity and special symbols augmenting the action, the Hold and Spin Game felt vaguely like the Chip Spin bonus game but with less of a feeling of latent lethality. Fruity Wild Bonanza's main feature is simpler and subtler, yet it can, on occasion, surprise in a good way. Wins are capped at 20,000x the bet, which is pretty immense, really, and something to keep players motivated while pondering its achievability.

So far, we've had candy, then fruit, so the next one must be vegetables? Maybe, though perhaps, Stakelogic will surprise with something wild and crazily different instead. Whatever the next one might be (if there is a next one), so far, both Candy Wild Bonanza and Fruity Wild Bonanza have been enjoyable games, with more than enough to entertain players in its scope.
