Gremlins After Midnight Slot
Gremlins: After Midnight has more going on beneath the licence than might initially be expected. Light & Wonder has worked the film into the mechanics rather than simply wrapping familiar gameplay in Gremlins artwork, with Gizmo, Fuzz Balls and Chicken Buckets all playing active roles. Mystery Stacked Reels provide the starting point, transforming before spins are evaluated and potentially revealing one of three coloured Chicken Buckets linked to different upgrades.
Fuzz Balls carry cash values and can appear naturally on the reels, after which Gizmo may add another 2-5 to available positions. They can also activate the Instant Win feature, where 1-3 boxes collect the Fuzz Ball values currently in view. Multiple boxes make this considerably more interesting, as each new box builds upon the amounts already collected before the final total is awarded. It's a neat variation on a mechanic that has become extremely common in modern slots.
The Chicken Buckets feed directly into the Hold & Spin feature. Orange activates More Money, allowing subsequent buckets to increase existing Fuzz Ball values; Purple introduces Mini, Minor, Major and Grand jackpots; and Green expands the grid from 5x3 to 5x6. The upgrades can operate together, so a strong Hold & Spin can eventually have considerably more happening than the feature's fairly conventional three-spin starting point suggests. New Fuzz Balls and newly activated modifiers reset the spin counter, while the Instant Win mechanic can also appear during the round. There is no traditional free spins feature, although eligible players can use the Buy Pass to randomly trigger the bonus for 50x the bet.

Licensed slots can sometimes get away with doing very little beyond exploiting a recognisable name, but Gremlins After Midnight at least makes an effort. The expanding Hold & Spin grid, stackable Chicken Bucket modifiers and unusual box-based collection mechanic give the game more character than a straightforward Gremlins-themed reskin would have had. There is also enough interaction between the different modifiers to make the bonus feel as though it can genuinely develop when several upgrades arrive together.
Gremlins fans may get something from the theme and the way the licence has been incorporated into the gameplay, but purely as a slot, it's more on the mediocre side than memorable.
