Grimms' Bounty: Princess & the Frog has one mathematical number working strongly in its favour: a 96.77% RTP. Beyond that, PG Soft has produced a much more conventional release, taking the familiar prize-and-collector format and placing it inside a colourful interpretation of the classic fairy tale. Prize values can reach 500x the bet, Collector multipliers climb to x10, and Free Spins allow those multipliers to accumulate, but there isn't much complexity beyond that central idea.

The game has an unusual tall layout consisting of 3 reels and 5 rows, with 35 fixed connecting ways. Stakes range from €0.20 to €100, volatility is high and the maximum payout reaches 10,000x the bet. The enchanted forest setting features the expected princess and frog prince alongside crowns, flowers, jewels and other storybook imagery. It's bright and polished in the usual PG Soft fashion, although the theme itself isn't particularly distinctive.

Prize symbols are responsible for the cash values and can display anything from 0.5x to 500x the bet. They don't pay independently and instead need to appear alongside a Collector. During the base game, Collectors can carry x1, x2, x5 or x10 multipliers. When Prize and Collector symbols appear together, the visible prizes are gathered and combined with the Collector multiplier values.

Landing 3, 4 or 5 Scatters triggers 8, 10 or 15 Free Spins. The collection mechanic changes significantly during the bonus, with Collector symbols now carrying x2, x5 or x10 values. Each multiplier that appears is added to a meter above the reels rather than functioning only on the current spin. Prize symbols are subsequently collected using the accumulated multiplier, allowing the value to become progressively more important as the feature develops.

That persistent multiplier is easily the more interesting part of Grimms' Bounty. A Prize symbol reaching 500x already gives individual collections some weight, but building the Collector meter across multiple Free Spins creates the possibility of considerably stronger combinations later in the feature. Unfortunately, the base game doesn't have an equivalent sense of progression. Prize and Collector symbols either connect on the same spin or they don't, leaving relatively little else to follow while waiting for the bonus.

PG Soft has delivered much more inventive games than this. Prize-and-collect mechanics have become extremely common, and Grimms' Bounty does little to distinguish its version beyond carrying the Collector multiplier into a persistent meter during Free Spins. The RTP is excellent and the 10,000x ceiling is substantial enough, so the underlying numbers are attractive. Mechanically, however, this feels unusually basic for PG Soft, and the familiar fairy-tale presentation doesn't do much to compensate. It's functional and mathematically appealing, but unlikely to rank among the studio's more memorable releases.
