The Huff N' Puff series has reached the point where another themed edition needs to do more than change the costumes. Huff N' Puff Haunted Mansion doesn't. Light & Wonder has taken the gameplay of Huff N' Puff Money Mansion and moved it to a graveyard outside a spooky mansion, dressing its pigs as skeletons, monsters and other Halloween characters. There is still plenty happening mechanically, but anyone familiar with the previous version is essentially getting the same game underneath the seasonal makeover.
The setup consists of 5 reels, 3 rows and 243 ways to win, with medium volatility and a default RTP of 96%. Operators can alternatively offer substantially lower 94%, 92%, 90% or 87% configurations, making the RTP worth checking. Stakes range from 0.20 to 200, while the payout potential sits around 5,600x the bet. Wolf Wilds are restricted to the three middle reels, while Pumpkins and the various Frame mechanics provide routes into the larger features.
Three types of Bone Frames can be built during the bonuses. White Coffins award 0.5x-1.5x the bet, Red Coffins increase this to 1.5x-5x with possible 20x Mini and 100x Minor Jackpots, and Gold Coffins offer 7.5x-75x alongside those same jackpot possibilities. Mystery Stacked Reels can also appear during the base game and bonuses, replacing symbols with stacks of higher-paying symbols, with their behaviour varying according to the active feature.
The Haunted Mansion feature provides access to much of the game's larger prize structure. Possible outcomes range from 5x-75x cash prizes through the Mini, Minor and 1,000x Major Jackpots to Gold Zone prizes worth 750x-4,000x and the 5,000x Grand. It can also award one of three 6-spin bonuses. Touch-Up adds White Bone Frames to selected reels, Halloween expands the grid to four rows and starts with 5-10 Straw Frames, while Graveyard places up to three Gold Bone Frames onto random positions. Three or more Scatters during these bonuses add 1 spin.
There is also a separate Free Spins route triggered by 6 or more Pumpkin Scatters. This awards 6 spins and converts the triggering Scatter positions into White Bone Frames. As with the other bonus rounds, landing at least 3 additional Scatters awards 1 extra spin. Between this, Haunted Mansion, three Frame levels, Mystery Stacks, jackpots and the different bonus configurations, there's substantially more going on than the relatively ordinary 5x3 layout initially suggests.
That abundance is both the strength and weakness of Huff N' Puff Haunted Mansion. There are numerous routes towards prizes and jackpots, and existing fans may enjoy seeing the familiar system dressed for Halloween. The trouble is that none of this is actually new. Light & Wonder has retained the mechanics, mathematics and potential of Money Mansion while replacing its appearance, leaving the Halloween theme to justify another release. The result is busy enough to avoid being boring, but also overly complicated in places and difficult to get excited about as another largely cosmetic addition to an already extensive series.
