Immortal Romance is one of Microgaming's most beloved slots, and while others might have swooped in on the vampire genre, few have been as memorable as the original. And neither is Moonlight Romance Twilight, sorry to say. It's an unusual game, one that's turned up several years late to the party with an undead story it's aching to tell. Microgaming reignited its vampiric adventure in Moonlight Romance The Awakening, and Moonlight Romance Twilight is an obvious offspring of that. The two slots share a lot in common, from skin to many of the features. Though, where The Awakening was a more typical three-pot slot, Twilight is a two branching out to maybe four-pot variant, which, is a change.

The Wild Bloom feature has been shifted to now be a base game-only random event, and two new toys have been added to the bonus round. These are the Reel Expand and the Reel Twin feature. No matter the phase, the preferred outcome is essentially getting as many wilds on the reels as possible to connect ways. This time there can be even more ways if the Reel Expand is working, while the duplication Reel Twin may also help in this regard. It's not exactly cutting-edge stuff, mechanically or thematically, but the three-pot genre is overflowing at the moment, and any attempt at novelty may be grasped upon by players thirsty for anything new in this area.

Moonlight Romance Twilight does an okay job of delivering the sort of vampire-flavoured melodrama its audience might be looking for, and the extra features give the bonus round a few more parts than its Awakening predecessor. Winning potential is higher too, at 12,150x. The game looks and plays like something assembled from familiar pieces, though it could be argued that just enough tinkering has been done to avoid being an outright repeat. For fans of The Awakening, there is something here to sink their teeth into, but anyone hoping for a worthy successor to Immortal Romance may find themselves feeling a little cold.
