Yggdrasil has signed a deal with Nitro Circus to release it’s first ever branded slot
If you’re not familiar with Nitro Circus, don’t worry. It’s an American thing like Wrestling or Baseball, so no need to feel like an old fossil. Some of you might, however, be familiar with the name if you’ve ever watched the Nitro Circus Live series on MTV that ran for 4 seasons between 2012 and 2014…rings a bell? No?
Nitro Circus is described as an “action sports collective” led by Travis Pastrana. The show features him and his buddies traveling around the globe riding dirtbikes, base jumping and performing stunts. It’s a little bit like Jackass in a way, but involving more talent.
For some reason, Yggdrasil Gaming decided Nitro Circus would be the best choice for their first ever branded slot. Whether it was the cheapest brand they could find or if it was just someone in the company having a thing for dirtbikes we’ll never know, but Nitro Cirus it is.
When it comes to branded slots there’s really only one developer that has managed to pull it off well in the past – Microgaming. NetEnt has had some decent branded games in the past such as Guns n’ Roses, South Park (now pulled from the market) and Creature from the Black Lagoon, but pretty much all of the recent ones have been nothing but garbage.
The reason why branded slots often seem to fail is the cost of the license, and who’s paying for the license? You guessed it. To make up for the expenses developers simply make the slot perform worse, either by lowering the return to player or by flattening variance. Most likely both.
As many of you know we haven’t been too impressed with Yggdrasil Gaming as of late and we’ve had our clashes. This doesn’t mean we want to see them fail, we really don’t. As slots enthusiasts, we want to help the iGaming industry improve and we want to play good slots but in this case we’re not holding our breaths.
Nitro Circus – What We Know So Far
Nitro Circus has 5 reels, 4 rows, 25 paylines and a bet range between0.25€ – 125€. The game has 7 regular symbols that win if 3 or more are lined up in sequence on a payline, beginning from the leftmost position. There is also a wild symbol that substitutes for all regular symbols and a Nitro Bomb symbol that pays scattered. Finally, the letters ‘N I T R O’ which award the Nitro Jump feature when all 5 appear on the reels.
This adrenaline-fuelled slot features some of Nitro Circus’s biggest stars, greatest stunts, and craziest vehicles. The game comes with a Free Spins mode, but the main feature is the Nitro Jump bonus game. Here players can fly through the air on one of 7 vehicles and collect multipliers, coin wins and other bonuses on the way, to maximize wins.
Players can reach the bonus games through both scatters and collections, plus choose between three different risk levels. But be warned – the higher the speed for the jump chosen, the bigger the chance of higher win multipliers, but also the greater chance to fail and crash your landing with a minimal win!
Nitro Circus Features
Land exactly 2 Nitro Bomb symbols in the base game to activate the Nitro-Blast minigame. In this minigame, players choose 1 of 5 bombs to reveal one of the prizes below.
- Free Spin mode – With 10-30 Free Spins
- Add 1 Vehicle to the player’s collection – Add a couch, wheelchair, toy car or bathtub
- Nitro Wild – Upon returning to the main game the Nitro Bomb symbols explode turning 2-9 slot positions within the blast radius into wilds.
- Free Spin Multiplier – increase the total Free Spin multiplier by 1,2 or 3. (only available in Free Spins)
- Extra Free Spins – +1,+2,+3 Free Spins(only available in Free Spins)
Nitro Free Spins
Land 3+ Nitro Bomb symbols in the base game to trigger Nitro Free Spins + The Nitro-Blast minigame with 1-3 feature picks.
- Landing 3 Nitro Bombs awards: 10 symbols + 1 Feature pick
- Landing 4 Nitro Bombs awards: 20 symbols + 2 Feature pick
- Landing 5 Nitro Bombs awards: 30 symbols + 3 Feature pick
Collect 5 identical vehicles to trigger the Nitro Jump Feature with the collected vehicle. Vehicles appear in the Nitro minigame and in the Nitro Jump feature. Each vehicle (Bath Tub, Armchair, Toy Car, Rocking Horse) has its own characteristics and benefits (tricks, size and boost).
- Better tricks award more coins from the judges for the first 3 jumps.
- Bigger vehicles collect more coins from the air.
- More boost awards a higher multiplier on the final jump.
The Nitro Jump feature
The Nitro Jump feature is activated by collecting 5 vehicles as stated above or by landing all the ‘N I T R O’ letters in 1 spin. If this feature is triggered by collecting NITRO then the player can choose one of the following vehicles – FMX Bike, BMW Bike or Kick Bike.
The Nitro Jump feature is made up of 3 stunt jumps and 1 final Boost Jump.
The 3 stunt jumps are scored by judges and awarded 5-625 coins depending on the tricks performed. Players can also collect 0-6 of the following features in the 3 stunt jumps.
- 25 coin prize
- Speed boost for the final jump
- Final Jump Multiplier
- 10 Free Spins
After completing the 3 stunt jumps, the rider approaches the final Nitro Boost jump. During the approach, players can add manual speed boost which will result in a better landing multiplier. However, adding manual boost increases the chance of the rider crashing out and losing all multipliers. The vehicle’s built-in boost and the boost collected during the 3 stunts does not influence the chance of landing the final Jump.
Nitro Circus Conclusion
Since we haven’t actually tried it yet, there’s not much to say at this point. Judging by the information above it does appear to be a somewhat confusing game so we will definitely need to try it to make some sense out of it. We know that the overall theoretical return to player will be 96.2%, but the volatility is unfortunately still unknown.
According to one of our initial sources, Nitro Circus is expected to be released on the 23rd of November. As always we’ll update this article when we know more.
