Plenty of Presents: Slot Overview
Hear that jingle jingle, folks? That's the sound of another Christmas clone rolling off the production line in time for the festive season. This one is called Plenty of Presents, and it comes from Just For The Win, copied from a slightly older slot of theirs titled Wolf Howl. Wolf Howl was okay but didn't go over super well when we first encountered it. One of the main issues was the way it teased with the added wild/wild multipliers as if you were going to hit something epic, a Christmas miracle, if you will. However, as you'll see, it doesn't quite work out that way.
We'll say this for Plenty of Presents; it is Christmassy. The action takes place in a living room, which is nice since it's where a lot of people celebrate Christmas Eve and the special day. Some Christmas slots have players braving the north pole, or the mean streets of Dickensian London, which have their place, but it's also nice to chill out next to a roaring fire and a tree surrounded with gifts. Plenty of Presents' music keeps with the season, too, so the whole scene is an inviting one.
The gaming occurs on a 5-reel, 3-row game grid, providing 10 paylines to land winning combinations across. Since Plenty of Presents is a straightforward facelift job, the same numbers pour forth from the math model. For one, volatility is high, as are the max win opportunities. As often is the case nowadays, RTP comes in several iterations, the most generous being a value of 96.15%. Be sure to check to make sure you’re getting the best deal as the return can drop to 94.07% or less depending on the market. Bets range from 20 p/c to £/€25 per spin, and the gift-giving is possible on any device from smartphones to desktops.
Symbols are another chance for the game to express its theme, which it does through high paying decorative balls, gingerbread Christmas trees, candles, and bells. These special symbols are worth 6 to 20 times the stake when landing a five of a kind combination. Low paying symbols aren't so in-theme, being a bunch of multi-purpose J-A card royals. Wilds are used extensively in Plenty of Presents, landing in a variety of multiplier forms. In the base game, wilds land with a win multiplier of x1, x2, or x3 - the x2 or x3 wild multipliers appear only on reels 2, 3, or 4 in the base game. If more than one wild multiplier appears on a payline, the values are multiplied.
Plenty of Presents: Slot Features
Features in Plenty of Presents consist of free spins, Jingle Wilds, Here Comes Santa Claus, and a Buy Free Spins feature.
Santa is displayed on the scatter symbols, and 3, 4, or 5 of them in view anywhere on the reels awards 8, 15, or 30 free spins, respectively. While free spins are active, landing 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 scatters awards an additional 2, 5, 8, 15, or 30 free spins.
In free spins, every visible scatter symbol triggers the Jingle Wilds feature. All scatter symbols and all symbols adjacent to them are converted into x1 wild multipliers. If the symbols adjacent to these scatters are already wild multipliers, their values are upgraded by +1 to x5 at the most. Wild multipliers can be upgraded more than once if they are adjacent to more than one scatter. One last thing, wild multipliers can appear on all five reels in free spins.
Here Comes Santa Claus
This feature may trigger at random in the base game. When Here Comes Santa Claus activates, 2-4 scatter symbols are awarded and can appear on any reel to help trigger free spins.
Buy Free Spins
If the feature buy option is present, players have the choice of buying free spins at a multiple of the current bet. The options are 8, 15, or 30 free spins for the cost of 90x, 159x, or 314x the bet. When buying the 8 or 15 free spins options, there is a chance extra scatters land, awarding more free spins.
Plenty of Presents: Slot Verdict
For a shot of Christmas cheer, Plenty of Presents is a pretty satisfying option. It offers a nice look and feel of the season, a jolly vibe, plus plenty of men in red suits. The background has a hazy, almost nostalgic appearance to it, where you can almost remember the feeling of being a yoof again, not wanting to go to bed, but stay up as late as possible to see Santa arrive and fill your stocking with the toys you've been badgering your guardians for all year. In other words, Plenty of Presents is like a slot version of those ads they put on telly around Christmas time, from companies like Coca Cola to pull on the heartstrings. It kind of works if you put in a bit of imagination.
The gameplay isn't bad either. Fairly basic, but the wild multipliers occasionally pull off something special. Like Wolf Howl, there is a titanic technicality players need to be aware of before having their hopes and dreams crushed, which is this. In free spins, when Santa scatters convert symbols into wild multipliers or upgrade multipliers, a win evaluation does not immediately take place. When symbols are converted, they simply remain on the reels and may land on later spins. The first time this occurs, when wild multipliers appear across the reels in great numbers, it's easy to start hearing cha-ching noises. Then… the reels just start spinning again. Being aware of this upfront should minimise any future disappointment should you choose to play Plenty of Presents. Those added wild multipliers can come handy later in the round, though, and potential is impressive.
Like Christmas Day, Plenty of Presents can serve up decent moments; it's just that tempering expectations over what converted wild multipliers do helps avoid disappointment.
Plenty of Presents has a more wholesome feel to it than the game it’s copied from, but ultimately the same pros and cons remain.
