Prime Zone (Quickspin): Overview
In Quickspin's latest offering, we're whipped back to Las Vegas during its glory days, a place of decadence and the sinful relinquishment of one's monetary reserves. Inside the smoky chambers and extravagant halls of any and every superstructure in the torrid, hot desert, there is a near infinite amount of entertainment. To some extent, Prime Zone delivers this home. But, there's also some deja vu to be experienced, for in many ways, what you'll find in Prime Zone is a rather typical old-school Quickspin slot.
The structure of the reel set is a basic one. Utilising 5 reels, 3 rows and 10 paylines, Prime Zone comes with an industry standard RTP of 96.28% distributed to give you 38.36% in the base game and 57.92% in the free spins feature. The gameplay is quite straightforward as well and relies heavily on multipliers, which can combine to great effect, to provide all the action. As you get underway, you'll land multiplier wilds that will boost the multiplier value relative to the number of wilds on a payline. In the free spins round, these line-win multiplier wilds come to even greater use where they can be subject to multipliers of up to 4x. Ranging from medium to high variance, depending on the bonus game of your choice, you can play this game across all devices from 10 cents to 100€ per spin.
Visually, Prime Zone has a classic Las Vegas feel to it. With an up-tempo version of the Joker Strike soundtrack playing on repeat, in the backdrop you'll see silhouettes of palm trees and skyscrapers against a neon purple sky. Encased in a golden frame, on the reels you'll see lower-value card suit symbols alongside bells, diamonds, blue sevens and red sevens. The latter is the most rewarding, giving you 50 times your stake for 5 on a full payline. The wild symbol substitutes for all other symbols bar the scatter and is the key to winning big as you will see.
Prime Zone (Quickspin): Features
Central to the game is the Multiplier Wild symbol which can appear on all reels. The great thing about these wilds is that the multiplier increases relative to the number of wilds on a payline. So for example, 3 wilds appearing on a single payline will give you a 3x multiplier. Land a wild line (5x multiplier) and you're looking at a 250 times your stake max win in the base game.
You'll find an even better use for these wilds in the Free Spins game which comes into play when 3 bonus scatter symbols appear anywhere on the 3 middle reels. With 7 free spins awarded, you're given the option to choose between four different bonuses ranging from lower to higher risk. These are your options:
- Option 1: medium variance and with all wins subject to a 1x multiplier, 3 wild symbols are randomly added inside the zone covering reels 1, 2 and 3.
- Option 2: medium variance and with all wins subject to a 2x multiplier, 3 wild symbols are randomly added inside the zone covering reels 2, 3 and 4.
- Option 3: high variance and with all wins subject to a 3x multiplier, 3 wild symbols are randomly added inside the zone covering reels 3, 4 and 5.
- Option 4: varying in volatility, the zone shifts between reels on each spin and will boost your winnings with a multiplier between 1x and 4x.
Remember, these multipliers are added on top of the line-win wild multipliers, which means you can land wins of up to 1000 times your stake per single spin if you opt for the Mystery Shifting bonus. This, however, makes the game seem much more potent than it really is.
Prime Zone (Quickspin): Final Verdict
Prime Zone is undoubtedly a throwback to the classic Quickspin we know from before, both in terms of visual production and mathematical design. It's also a lot less intricate compared to many of the recent releases such as Ivan and the Immortal King, Divine Dreams and Hall of the Mountain King which have all been extremely ambitious titles. With that in mind, it's actually nice to see Quickspin go back to something simple again. What we found to be a bit disappointing, however, are the low payouts. While not bad enough to deter recreational players, who will be tied up in the engaging gameplay anyway, more experienced players might find the small base game wins off-putting and a bit of a drag.
It doesn't actually get much better in the free spins feature either, as it turns out, where, during Quickspin's test runs of 100 billion spins, the best result the game could muster was a max win of 2685,5x. Now, it's not the worst number we've seen in a slot machine, and a lower max win should theoretically give you a more realistic chance to win big as the wins can be distributed over a larger number of players, but for hardcore gamblers that get a kick out of chasing monster wins, this won't suffice. As a consequence, Prime Zone is a game that you will either love or hate depending on what type of player you are.
