Another yawner from Microgaming partners Just For The Win
Sidewinder feature & 3 different wild symbols
1125 paylines in free spins
For those of you who do not yet know, Just For The Win is a small Swedish game developer established in 2016 and now also Microgaming partners, which of course has generated some publicity for the company. The games released so far have all been quite mediocre (some even horrible), something JTFW shares with all Microgaming partners it seems.
Playable on all devices from €0.10 to €100, Rainbrew is a Leprechaun themed slot played on a 3, 5, 5, 5, 3 reel set with 243 win ways that can go up to 1125 ways in the free spins. It features two 1×3 horizontal reel sets on the top and bottom of the game area which are part of the Sidewinder feature.
Rainbrew is somewhere in the upper medium part of the variance scale with relatively low returns. The RTP is not stated in the game itself which is unacceptable.
Rainbrew Symbols & Paytable
The game includes 5 low-value symbols represented by various Celtic objects. The 5 premium symbols are presented by tobacco pipes, mugs, barrels and female and male leprechauns. As can be seen in the image above, the male leprechaun is the most valuable symbol, returning an 8x win for 5 across a payline.
The game also comes with 3 different type of wild symbols:
- Regular wild: only appear on the 2 horizontal Sidewinder reels.
- Top wild: in the base game Top wild symbols only appear on reel 2 and on the bottom horizontal Sidewinder reel.
- Bottom wild: in the base game Bottom wild symbols only appear on reel 3 and the top horizontal Sidewinder reel.
The game centers wholly around the Sidewinder feature which is activated by landing wild symbols in the main game. A top wild (blue) symbol activates the top horizontal reel and a bottom wild (green) symbol activates the bottom horizontal reel, increasing the win ways and allowing for additional wilds to stop.
It may seem a bit confusing but is actually quite simple. Let’s take the image above as an example. A blue top wild lands and activates the top blue horizontal reel which contains green bottom wilds and regular wilds. A green bottom wild lands and activates the bottom green horizontal reel (re-spin) which contains top blue wilds and regular wilds.
Rainbrew Free Spins Feature
When the Rainbrew scatter symbol lands on reel 2 and 4, the Sidewinder reels are activated, containing only scatter symbols. If a 3rd scatter lands during the Sidewinder feature, the free spins mode is activated awarding 6 free spins. 4 scatter symbols on the other hand awards 10 free spins.
The help files explain that during free spins both horizontal reels are active and the game is played with 1125 ways, but in reality, the horizontal reels can turn up empty so a more correct statement would be “up to” 1125 ways.
The free spins mode comes with a more potent Rainbrew feature. Only scatter symbols and regular wilds are present on the horizontal reels (blue and green wilds do not appear here). If a scatter symbol lands on the horizontal reel, an additional spin is awarded. If regular wilds symbols stop on the same position on both horizontal reels they will expand to form a full wild reel. This way it is possible to land 3 full wild reels in the middle, something that could potentially award wins over 2500 times your stake.
We’re sorry to say, but this is another embarrassing release from JTFW. The main game is extremely boring and waiting for the bonus to land is painful. It’s a bit annoying that once you finally manage to land two scatters you have to depend on the Sidewinder feature to give you a third one, something that often fails.
The free spins mode is decent and actually has some potential should you manage to activate all 3 wild reels (good luck with that), but the returns are painfully low here as well. We can’t see why anyone in their right mind would spend their hard earned money on a slot like this. The only fun thing about this game is the title…if even that.
